My favorite line in this episode is, "Aww, but Cassandra promised."
Funny story-
So I was about 9 when this first aired, and I was obsessed (recorded every episode on VHS and would rewatch over and over).
One day at school, the teacher was asking us a question and noone in the class knew the answer. Then she says 'Cmon, it begins with C'.
So because of Red Dwarf, I raised my hands and said 'cunnilingus'.
Never seen a teacher look so horrified!! She told my parents at parents' night and they were so embarrassed haha.
This is what's wrong with society. Cunninglingus shouldn't be a dirty word.
@@ThePorpoisepower-Alan’s funny stories 🎵
@@ThePorpoisepowerindeed! It’s my favourite Lingus 😂
If you don't know your Greek mythology, Cassandra was a priestess who was cursed to predict the future but is never believed. Keep doing pretty good, you two.
Was going to post something similar, glad I looked. She is talked about in the film 12 Monkeys
Cassandra said that only the Dwarfers survive yet Kill Crazy was still alive unconscious on the floor of the sub, that's how Kryten worked it out.
Cassandra didn't mention Kill Crazy because she was lying.
Well said...they showed a big shot of KillCrazy on the floor moaning in pain so its clear whats happening.
kill crazy actually never made it through the airlock so didnt actually board the ship in the first place so he didnt need to escape and was never at risk so did not suvive anything
@@stevenr6397 He survived by not having to go with them.
Or because she didn’t know Kill Crazy existed.
@@stevenr6397 would he have survived if every single Canary died and there was no one to pilot the sub back? Did the Canaries seal the airlock door behind them to stop the sub filling with water. He could have suffocated from lack of oxygen if he didn't wake up and the Captain would not have sent a search party either.
Cassandra is easily the best episode of season 8. Last episode of the season comes close, but this one is the most consistently funny and fits the tone better, making good use of the all the Dwarfers and showing how this new dynamic can work.
Also It's just really really great having Rimmer back just Rimmering around. The best part is you actually see the part where Rimmer falls down the hole.
Yeah, this is easily my favourite this series. I enjoy the opening (all parts), the finale, and this episode. So, overall, I like more episodes this series, than I dislike.
I loved how Geraldine McEwan was having so much fun playing the part of Cassandra as you could see the joy all over her face. Geraldine has a long list of notable credits over her long career starting at 14 in theater and end at the grand age of 78 with her more better known later performances being Miss Marple in the 'Marple' TV series (2004 to 2012) & the voice of Miss Thripp in the 'Wallace & Gromit' adventures. R.I.P.
Not only is his name on the vest, but Rimmer is printed like ten times the size of the rest 😂
Narratively if they told you Kryten had figured it out before hand then you would be expecting Lister to come in and shoot Rimmer or be thinking something might stop that, it would have lost the climax of is Rimmer going to get shot mid coitus?
Hands down the best episode of S8, to me this stands alongside 3-6 quality wise.
I love this episode, but TBH it's not a high bar for S8.
This was like a Rob Grant and Doug Naylor written episode. The dialogue had the wit of Series 1-6, the jokes were clever and original, the plot went in completely unexpected directions all the way through - and it was exciting. You didn't know what was going to happen from one scene to the next. Most importantly, this episode had plot and character development and even a bit of heart.
I feel like people overestimate the Grant Naylor dynamic sometimes. Series 1-6 is not consistently the show at its very best all the time. Most of the Dave era craps over series 6. And there's weaker episodes even before then. Series 1-5 and 10-12 are of the same overall quality.
@@DarthRushy I've heard of people going out on an opinion island, but I genuinely think you're the only person who believes that. Even Doug doesn't believe that.
@@VonBlade I'm not interested in what Doug thinks. It's my experience and my opinion. Series 10-12 were a lovely return to the show's strengths as a character-based sitcom after the increasingly tiresome space adventure theme that started in series 3.
@DarthRushy I am not a huge fan of 11-12 or the special, but Series X was excellent. If it was up to me, and I'm glad for people like you it's not lol, 10 would have been the last one, and a great one to go out on too.
@@ericjohnson9623 10 was definitely the best of the new lot and I wouldn't have hated if it was the last. But I'm glad they made even more great episodes, and especially The Promised Land with Holly!
Once again I am so happy to see others not hating on Kochanski.
Probably the best episode of this season, "I had nothing and I threw it all away!"
I love how happy the salute makes Paula. :)
The salute also brings me an immense amount of joy, too. It's just so good! 😭
@@KatAlysha Of course! You too! I didn't mean to leave you out, it was just that Paula's laugh at the very end of the video put the thought in my mind.
@@KatAlysha Hopefully one day you'll get to see the Red Dwarf theme played at the Filmová filharmonie, SF Koncert. A couple of ladies in the orchestra are obviously fans because at the beginning - bottom left of the screen - they perform the Rimmer salute.
That was probably the best episode of that particular season.
"Harness your stupidity, sir!" 😂
This is such a great episode that I always forget it's this late in the show's run. It feels so fresh and energetic and funny, it's like something from those early golden years. I'm glad to see the two of you having so much fun with this. Especially with what Battlestar has been doing to you.
I've always felt that Kryten figuring it all out off screen is just like cutting to characters looking a mess while talking about some off screen battle or adventure. Lister had to explain it to Rimmer, Kochanski AND THEN Cassandra, so we really didn't need to hear it from Kryten too (making that 3 times for essentially the same piece of exposition).
You'll notice that Rimmer & Knot were printed larger on their Gilets for a CRT audience.
I'm feeling pretty good
I like the the Canaries as a devise to have off Red Dwarf adventures.
Geraldine McEwan who played Cassandra is a famous serious stage actress. She also played Mortianna in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.
Americans may recognize her from Harry Potter. She played Madame Hooch, the flying instructor/quidditch referee.
@@MuffinHunterX That was Zoë Wanamaker.
@@Wilss fair mistake to make, I thought this was Zoe Wanamaker until I read the comments
Last week you were commenting on how Rimmer looks older ( because he is of course ) but it's weird because he's suppose to be the same guy before the Red Dwarf blew up. Well, not really. Remember Holly made the nanobots recreate everyone to keep Lister sane. If they created a "younger" version of Rimmer it would drive Lister nuts. And...there is no indication in this show that the recreated versions were suppose to start exactly from when the ship blew up anyway. Since they are creations they could simply be versions that aged normally on a ship that never blew up.
Paula has beautiful hair
@gallifray Gals - I don't know if you remember, but I told you on your Patreon I once went to Staines, England to watch a Red Dwarf episode being recorded. This was the one! I couldn't tell you much about it, because Kochanski wasn't even in Red Dwarf at that point, and I didn't want to spoil it for you. Yes, me and my friends were right at the front, as they filmed those scenes. It was hilarious! Some of the takes took a few goes until they got them right, and watching this took me right back - I haven't seen it for at least 10 years. Thankyou!
Awe!! This is so so cool!!
Kill crazy actor is the voice of the Geico in the US ads.
11:48 "I think people should hug more."-Kryten.
Ah, Rimmer has another jacket on covering his name in the first meeting.
🎵You are the sunshine of my life. Ooooh! That's why I'll always be arooooound!🎵
Hey, I'm feeling pretty good by committing to the bit
As crazy at it seems, I think the concept of the Canaries as convicts sent on away missions inspired a plot point in the manga Dungeon Meshi, and its adaptation in anime that just finished its first season on Netflix. In Dungeon Meshi / Delicious in Dungeon, the Canaries are a party of Elven convicts who serve their sentence by investigating illegal magic uses within dangerous dungeons. They also wear yellow canary inspired garbs. The author Ryoko Kui watches a lot of Western media and plays a ton of RPGs, and Red Dwarf had a Japanese dub, so it's a real possibility.
Kryten figured out the profecy was wrong because Kill Crazy was still aboard the diving bell and was still alive. Her story was that all the canaries would be dead
"See ya kidder" I like this episode it's fun, with some memorable comedy moments. Holly's delivery of ''Become a dog'' gets me every time.
I was just taking a sip of a hot drink that is mostly water when you did the hydration station, heh.
This episode is probably my favourite of the season, at least from my memories of the season.
Good review ladies. Got to say 'But Cassandera promised ' line still gets me. Looking forwards to your next review.
I think they had Kryten figure it out off screen to add a bit more tension to the possibility of Lister killing Rimmer.
For real, Chloë Annett is bloody hilarious! So glad she gets to be part of the goofiness ❤
This is in my top 10 Red Dwarfers episodes. KILL-CRAZY. Also name of a 1989 movie.
Jokes on you, I still haven't hydrated.
DING DANGIT GET THAT WATER 💧
@@KatAlysha It's 6:30 am, I'm still in bed.
3:23 :Those Helmets have previously been used in 3 Dr Who Serials
I had a meltdown today but this has chilled me out a bit now, thanks.
i wasn't feeling good, but then i remembered its wednesday n gallifrey gals are getting dwarfed so now i'm feeling pretty good
doing pretty good ladies, keep up the dwarffin
actually the canaries seldom died, they just passed out and were fine when taken back above ground.
Gals from the Dwarf 😂😂😂😂
I laughed when i heard Lister say "Chris take cover the water"s comming"
Great reactions kat and paula u will love the next four episodes of series 8 then on to series 9 red dwarf back to earth 3 episodes take care both of you stay safe keep getting dwarfed ❤❤❤
I feel like success is a hard balancing act. After so many years of winning at television, how could the core crew not want to expand the show, and include other great and talented people? That being said its difficult to transition that to anything new without breaking what already worked. I haven't seen much of the later seasons, so I'm excited to see how this goes down the line, myself!!
Even "The worst season" still has one of the best episodes. Unironically and without caveat, this is a great one. (Callbacks to Future Echoes are always welcome)
Next Up: probably the worst.
Cheers - raises bottle
My favorite episode of the season
same
I think the one thing that might have been an issue if they went back to just the initial crew + Kochanski with an otherwise empty ship is that she outranks Rimmer and is actually fully capable and brave compared to the rest of the BFTD who are just barely surviving while stumbling their way through the universe. She’d actually be a great space adventurer. Not to say that it couldn’t work with the right writing, but I kinda like the concept that she’s stuck in the same shitty circumstances with the Boys where they have to go on *mandatory* adventures
You guys are doing great! I look forward to your reactions to Red Dwarf each week. Unfortunately next episode is Krytie TV . Apologies in advance.
The tall guard is Dwalin from the Hobbit movies
How the hell did I never notice that???
This is a fun one, but yeah, the conclusion is a bit of a leap. It was missing a tell somewhere.
Definitely feeling pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good. Yup.
Because of this episode, I still call sex “giving it rizz.” 😂
Paula, careful which way you show those fingers when you're indicating the number two. Nails forward is an offensive gesture in the UK, Australia and New Zealand xD
I'm feelin' pretty good, and not pretty good, and really, really, really, really pretty good.
Not Zoe Wannamaker but Geraldine Mc Ewan , I thought the same though .It did have it's moments Rimmer is interesting being his old self .Watching the series with Kat and Paula I feel better about it - Pretty good actually .
"This is the first time I've ever been seduced by predeterminism theory." This is so odd in S8, because it's as if the BBC called in Doug Naylor and said "What's going on, Doug? This is supposed to be the crap season, remember?" Fortunately for all concerned, Doug remembers for the next four weeks. I'll be VERY interested to see your reaction to next week's.
This is my favorite line!
Pretty good. That’s how I’m feelin’
This is one of the best episodes of series 8 in my opinion. But I am so, so, so sorry for the next episode
another great reaction from you both looking forward to more reactions with you both on series 8
Great stuff laydeez
I wasn't feeling good. Then I watched this video, and now... I still don't feel good but I feel less not good than I did before!
I've got a drink, now what did I miss 😂
You know what…… I am feeling pretty good, thanks for asking. Hope you’re both feeling great too.
6:25 The audio commentary for this was recorded just after Series 1 of Doctor Who aired, and Craig Charles also brings up the Cassandra / Cassandra similarities!
IM feeling pretty good
Feeling pretty good. 😂
I'm feeling pretty good, even if my back is aching 😊
Yep, pretty good. Better than pretty good reaction, though. And it's looking like summer - I guess it''s not as cold and rainy where you are as it is here.
Oh boy, I've been waiting for next week's reaction since Series 1...
Intro was giving me flashbacks to the time I used to watch femdom videos.. "come on hurry up!" *clicks fingers*
Cracked open a cider right before I started watching. That's watery enough, right?
Interesting to hear your thoughts on Kochanski this series so far. I'll be even more interested in your thoughts after the next episode...
I'm also glad you've taken to the character so well, as a fair few people didn't like the dynamic change. I really enjoy her presence, tbh, though I prefer series 7 Kochanski.
lol the intro reminded me of something that happens in my fav ep from s10
16:07 Smeg! 😂
Ha. CZcams is asking me if I want to translate that to English
I would like to suggest a comedy to watch called "Black Books" staring Dylan Morgan, Tamsin Greig and Bill Bailey. It is very funny and all three series can be bought as a DVD Box Set.
I'm feelin' pretty good...
Who could have foreseen another quality cat video?!
I could change "quality" to "pretty good," but I've already committed.
This might be the best episode of the season
Hiya smegheads 👋🏻 😹😂
HOLD THE SMEGGING FRONT PAGE!
Panic attack!! 😮
As I’ve said previously, I watch these episodes on BBC iPlayer beforehand, so yesterday when I went to my BBC iPlayer THERE WAS NO RED DWARF😮😮😮
Omfg, I searched the BBC & NOTHING, I searched the internet asking & there was a BBC link to the show but when clicked on it came up as page unavailable 😭
Luckily it appears to have returned, so last night I watched it & this morning your reaction 🙏🏻🤣👍🏻👍🏻
Smoke me a kipper, I’ll be back in time for the next show (fingers crossed 🤞)🐟
🚀🤖👨🏾🦱👩🏻👨🏻😺
🇬🇧🤝🏻🇺🇸
Yeah, doin' pretty good.
I'm feeling pretty good.
Some pretty good feels being felt
I wonder if there is a deleted scene was Kryten making that decision. Or if they just did not think it was necessary.
I'm feeling good but I've ran out of chocolate Smeg!!
One of my favourite episodes. Easily a match for any you care to name. NB If Kryten had screen time explaining his idea, the will-they/won't-they of Kris and Rimmer isn't funny, and Dave appearing doesn't give us hope for Rimmers death. That whole bed scene makes no sense if we know it's not pre-determined.
What do I do if I'm not feeling pretty good? Sometimes I win, sometimes the other me wins. Other me is winning this week so far. I hope you're both well.
[spoiler]
What a shame it's followed by rampant sexism and the two Petes.
I'm feeling pretty good 👍 😌 ☺️ ✨️
They did show you Kill Crazy, to be fair. You even remarked on it.
I actually did take a drink 👀
I love this episode, I laugh so hard at the "I've seen it" "That's as well as maybe but have you seen this" *middle finger* "Yes, I'm afraid I have"
It's funny you mentioned the connection to Cassandra from Doctor Who as Danny John-Jules mentions the connection in the DVD commentaries of this episode! 😂
Feelin pretty good. (...even though I havent drunk any water)
I had the opposite thinking about Kochanski. Just making her one of the team killed what made her interesting. And it made her totally redundant to the four main characters.
Oh, the Gals, mellow. Hooked.
If only if she said "dont moisturise me."...
Unfortunatly, I am not pretty good. Just come back from Kyrgystan and either the 24+ hours of traveling has drained me, or I've picked up a virus 🙃
19:30
I'm like you, in that while this may not be the top or my favourite series; in my opinion, there is no such thing as a bad Red Dwarf series; i enjoy and like them all.
I'm feeling pretty AND good
My only issue with this episode is if Cassandra could predict the future then she would have known that her revenge plan against Lister would fail so therefore why did she bother to try and punish him in the first place? Good episode though all the same!🙂🙂🙂
Because you can't change the future. :)
It still screwed him up for a bit.
