  • A how to video on changing the gear oil and resealing the dana 60 full floating axle on my 1996 Ford E-350 Econoline. This may be different depending on what Van and axle you have. If you have a different axle your specs may be different. Hope this video was helpful, thanks for watching.

    There is one other step I do in case I'm the guy that has to take something apart in the future. I always put Anti-Seize compound on all bolt threads during assembly. You'll thank me later.

      @4WheelKid  Před 5 měsíci

      Yeah that wouldn’t hurt. Only reason I didn’t was because the threads were so clean, cause they were well sealed by the rtv. Antiseize is amazing stuff

    Great job showing folks how to do this themselves.
    I'm personally not a fan of using rtv with gaskets. No need for the gasket with rtv and theres a possibility that the gasket can squeeze out over time.
    I prefer to use gasgacinch on gaskets.

      Thanks! Yeah not sure if it was the beat move using gasket and rtv but will be interesting to see how it holds up just didn’t feel good about only using the paper gasket, if I did it again I would have ordered a lube locker gasket. We use to have that stuff at work

    Your videos are incredible and helpful. I only wish you were willing to work some magic on my 96' e350 SMB....as I can't find anyone worthy and good in this Denver auto mechanic market (I know you are just north). Do you recommend anyone or do this professionally? I don't have the tools, space, skills or time to do major work.

    I noticed that one of the 4 bottles was a different grade oil. oops or intended? I used 80w90, but wish I would have use 75w140 Synthetic since to am mostly towing a 6000 lb trailer.

      Wow I cant believe I did that, I never noticed that until now until you pointed that out, guess you should never trust that the right product is on the shelf mixed in with the others. Just checked and I have a nearly full bottle of 80w90 so I must have put the 85w140 in with 2 80w90 so now I have 81W106 weight gear oil haha should be fine though, super close to the winter 80 and a little more protection in the hot summer. Lucas makes good stuff. Yeah a 6000 trailer 75w140 synthetic would be good

      Thank you! Not sure if the gasket with rtv was the best but will be interesting to see how it holds up over time

    I had another question for you. On my 96 E350 there is an electrical connector with two wires coming out of the differential and I don't see anything like that on the one you worked on. Any idea why mine would have something electrical inside of it?

    • @4WheelKid
      @4WheelKid  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Mine does its the rear axle speed sensor for the abs, its on top the pumpkin right?

    • @UtwoBed
      @UtwoBed Před 4 měsíci

      @@4WheelKidYes, that's it.
      So I assume if that doesn't work both the speedometer and the speed control would not be working?
