- Technically the Halloween films are four different stories, and one one-off tale told over the course of thirteen films, if my math is right away. Only one of these narrative shifts seem to have been done for creative reasons, while the rest were undertaken in an effort to continue the series and make more money from the Halloween brand. David Gordon Green’s trilogy of films which kicked off in 2018 on the 40th anniversary of John Carpenter’s classic. That’s right, we’re taking a look at Halloween 2018 and attempting to find out WTF Happened to this Horror Movie?

despite kills and ends being.. whatever they are, i absolutely love this one. my favorite in the series. i was so excited for it and it delivered on everything i wanted. i was eating up all the references and callbacks 😂 and the whole climax had me on edge and genuinely scared.

I LOVED 2018. Kills and Ends were maybe MORE disappointing because I liked this one so much
I genuinely don't understand how any halloween fan can not like kills. It's just 2 hours of Michael Myers killing the absolute shit out of a fuck ton of people. That's it! It's so simple, yet so beautiful! No deep character examination. No social message. Well, I guess there was a bit of a message with the mental patient and the hospital mob. But besides that, it's just Michael Myers decimating an entire town. What's not to love? That is literally all I want in a halloween movie. Look, I love the Laurie Strode character study in halloween 2018, too. But halloween 2018 also had a bunch of awesome Michael Myers kills. And that's ultimately what I'm there for. That's what the problem was with ends. It was all character study and no awesome Michael Myers kills. That's why ends sucks so much.
Look, I'm a simple man. If you can give me 1 of 2 things in your halloween movie, then I'll be happy. The first thing is: awesome Michael Myers kills. The second thing is: Donald Pleasence being cruel to children. These new halloween movies obviously couldn't do the second thing because, god rest his soul, Donald Pleasence is dead. He's up in heaven doing what he loves most which is, grabbing children by the lepel, lifting them off the ground and then violently shaking them. But the first 2 movies definitely provided a lot of the first thing. And that's all I'm asking for.
Kills is great
Saw Halloween 2018 in theatres. It was an amazing experience. Glad I contributed to it being the highest grossing slasher to date.
I strongly believe no slasher movie will break that record maybe Freddy Krueger but I doubt it cheers for Myers 🔪🎃🔪

All I did was say you should adjust for inflation, since that's common sense. If it was the other way around - and Halloween was on top due to inflation, you'd count it for sure.
Halloween 2018 was a great movie. I took my mom to see it, (who is a John Carpenter/ Halloween fan) to see it, and she said, "They turned Laurie Strode into me?"
That’s what made her character great, a survivor who is relatable. That’s awesome

I do like the fact that the movie undid the brother sister angle. Cause, after watching 78 Halloween, a few times, it seems that Michael was actually after Annie. Linda, Laurie and Bob was just collateral damage
The real sequel is in fact Halloween 2 1981
Not by critics nor the box office. Plus, the sibling storyline was unnecessary and took away from the original movie. It didn't need an agenda.
It’s one of my favorite sequels of all time. And not just within the Halloween franchise or the horror genre but among all movies.
After watching all three movies of the trilogy, this shouldn’t have been a trilogy at all. Halloween 2018 would have made an EXCELLENT one off!
🤨 Laurie Strode’s behavior in this film and in KILLS and ENDS makes absolutely NO sense. She spends 40 years prepping as a PTSD stricken survivalist on the chance that the imprisoned Mikey were to ever break free, whom she could then somehow relay her current address to as to lure him into a killbox?!
She (and the entire town of Haddonfield whom all have never moved) are petrified with fear because 40 years ago a crazed man kills 5 people in one night and stalks a babysitter.
THEN 2 years after the events of KILLS, where he had quadrupled his body count, killed her daughter, and is still roaming free, Laurie in ENDS is just ready to move on and be happy?!
Everyone in these sequels react to Meyers as if all of the other sequels had happened.
Watch Ends again. This time pay attention. It's all clearly explained.

Yes. It makes absolutely no sense. It would've been far more logical for Laurie to be the pie baking Betty Crocker in "Halloween 2018" and be the PTSD-stricken doomsdayer in "Halloween Ends." Don't even get me started on the beyond ridiculous Corey storyline.

Man what a tease it was...if i had known we'd end up with kills and ends, i wouldve tempered my expectations. 2018 still rocks and it shouldve ended there.
I really liked Ends a lot too and makes Kills more tolerable for me. I'm pretty happy with this trilogy more or less, but 2018 was the best one

Last year's Halloween film was the most garbage film in the entire franchise. Michael himself hardly ever showed up.
The problem wasn't that he showed up for very little time because you have to remember that in the original he has only 12 minutes of screentime, but in the og the purpose was to create tension and fear. In ends he serves only as a cameo in the first two acts and gets disrespectfully treated

Say what you will about the questionable tone/storyline of the new Holloween trilogy, but the design of Michael was great, probably the best since the original, the face sculpt of the mask was fantastic, and was partly created by the man who played the Ronald Reagan inspired killer from the criminally underrated comedy horror film - "The Tripper".👍
Completely agree, especially in Halloween Kills. Tommy calling Michael an apex predator is the only way to describe what Michael does

Personally, I agree with the last statement you said at the end of the video. The story should have remained as how this film ended. Although I did think HALLOWEEN KILLS had some strong points as well, both KILLS and ENDS didn't need to be made. Now as for 2018, this truly was the franchise back to form and glory. A film with substance and greatness, this was Michael Myers at his finest and Laurie at her best
Halloween 2018 was the best one. Then kills happened, that created ENDS (both not good) It's like they picked unused Scripts from the 80's & mid 90's that completely switched the tone of realism & took away that what if, like 2018 had created. In a way it's like, 1978's Halloween & 1981's H2, those were good & grounded, then it switched over making Michael "The Suburban Jason" Lol
I love this movie and it's sequels. I love that the sibling connection from Halloween II (love that movie) was retconned.
I wouldn't necessarily call it a retcon. Lot of people say all the old movies aren't canon, which I don't really agree with. I look at it more as different timelines, where they are all canon to their respective timelines (4-6 thorn, H20, Resurrection not existing, Rob Zombies run, then the 2018 trilogy)
The only reason they could even do it was because the original never intended them to be siblings

I was so glad they were making a new Halloween. A lot of it is bc I wanted to erase Rob zombie's Halloween II out of my mind. I was even more excited when I found out blumhouse was involved. I was so hyped for the first trailer. Seen it twice in theaters.
And they managed to make an even WORSE movie with Halloween Ends. RZ, DGG, and DMcB all need their asses whooped for the abominations they made.

Wasn’t the biggest fan of 2018 on first release but after watching it again it’d become my 2nd favourite Halloween of all time. (Behind the 78 of course) it is a shame that Halloween Kills & Ends were what they were as I think Michael burning to death in Lauries basement was the way it should have ended & not the procession scene in Ends where we also see that everyone in Haddonfield has a bat phone.
I am happy to say this was the first ever Halloween movie I seen in the cinema, and the best cinematic experience of my life thus far. As a long time fan of the series, getting to see the franchise and Michael Myers revitalized with this great sequel is a moment I'll never forget. Though the reception for the 2 succeeding sequels range from mixed to negative, I think we can all agree this sequel is one of the better one's in the franchise and had led to many others being created in the same vein, just as the original did 40+ years ago.
I GOT SO EXCITED WHEN THE TRAILER CAME OUT AND WHEN IT AIRED ON TV THE NEXT YEAR IT ASTONISHED ME. I HAVE TO ADMIT HALLOWEEN FROM 1978 AND HALLOWEEN FROM 2018 BOTH ARE THE BEST ONES.
I probably watched the trailer of Halloween 2018 more than 100 times on YT when it came out in the summer of 2018, I still remember how I enjoyed it haha

Wtf do you mean wtf happened to 2018? This was the best one of the series in terms of the classic Myers we know and love. I hope you made a video on “wtf happened to Halloween ends” because that movies was a train wreck.
They contradicted the entire lore. And I'm not talking about that "curse of Thorne" BS. I'm talking about Michael being the Personification of Evil and a Force of Narure like John Carpenter himself originally intended. Michael was the very first "Unkillable" slasher in the subgenre. There were no other except from the Universal Movie Monsters universes. DGG and Danny McBride RUINED All of that with Halloween Ends.
I love this movie, is the best Halloween sequel and a great movie on it’s own. I have a soft spot for Kills, despite some flaws is still a good movie, but Ends… oh my God, why???
The thing I hated most about the 2018 film was it wiped away the first sequel. If the reason was to get rid of Lori is Michael's sister plot, they could have said that was just a mix up with some records combined with bad rumor. Because they wipe the movie out entirely, Lori is a crazy person in this movie. Michael never comes for her. They just happen to cross paths again. If she was so convinced he'd come for her, why did she stay so close? Everything she suffers in this movie is simply because she didn't leave town. You keep most of #2 cannon, and her character makes sense.
Still think it wouldve been better if Laurie caused the bus crash somehow

I've seen it! I thought that was a pretty cool movie! I've tried to tell people about it but usually until I mention that it's an 80s movie, they think I'm talking about the remake of the Japanese horror movie!

The acting was decent, and the movie was well shot, but you're giving this film a lot more credit than it deserves. The plot of this film is terrible at best, Michael being 61 years old, and institutionalized for 55 of those years, he wouldn't of been able to even get his mask out of the trunk of that modern car... The best of a trilogy that didn't need to exist.

Michael doesnt "discover" his mask in the trunk of the car. He tracks and kills the reporters knowing they have his mask and he wants it back
Exactly. He knew the podcasters had it given that Aaron flashed it at smiths grove, spotted them at the grave yard when they went by Judith’s tombstone and followed them from there to the service station where he killed them and got it back

I was a little disappointed initially when Dr. Sartain turned into a killer in order to preserve Michael. It seemed too far fetched and out of left field, but over time I’ve come around to it. It was his life’s work and he was beyond obsessed.
I agree. It's very "wtf no" at first but looking back it makes sense.
I enjoy the entire trilogy. As slashers, they are mid tier, but as allegorical explorations of generational trauma, I find them fascinating.

The scene where the cops were talking about a sandwich for 5 or 6 minutes made me go WTf!?

Halloween 2018 is by far the best Halloween sequel. Say what you will about kills, and ends, the latter of which I'm a fan of, but Halloween 2018 is the definitive sequel to me.
It didn't have a single moment of tension let alone horror.

I laughed when Laurie used a 19th century rifle to sweep the house like she was expecting Sitting Bull. OK, I get it, Hollywood is completely against gun rights. But Laurie Strode isn't... Where's the AR-15 with laser sights and night vision scope?

I understand your opinion, but I don't think so, let me explain, the Kills soundtrack, it's great, but the Halloween 2018 soundtrack goes further, not only are there 'Halloween style' soundtracks, but some songs like "Prison Montage" (HK do things similar like 'Hallway Madness' (situations that are not very much seen in the Halloween franchise) in the prisoner suicide scene), but H2018 put you in the shoes of what it's like to be in prison for so long, thats why i love the prision montage theme.
For the Halloween soundtrack kills had a more time, 1 more year, but even so it was affected by the pandemic, the working conditions in 2017-2018 were much better in that sense, but both soundtracks are very professional (but as a personal choice I prefer 2018)
The ends soundtrack is great as well

I remember leaving the theater with family like meh. Mom got me into h78 as child. She said aloud in theater this movie fn sucks. Halloween kills was more fun of a watch, but didn’t have re watch value due to lack of any real story and cringe dialogue. And ends really ended it huh?

I enjoyed Halloween 2018. Not only was the movie a solid entry but I have fond memories of going to the Halloween 40th Anniversary a week or so before. In addition, I took my girlfriend to the movie for our second date (we eventually got married and now we have a beautiful 14 month old boy). I can’t stand Kills and Ends, but I will always have a special spot for Halloween 2018 in my heart. Even though it’s not perfect and many questionable choices were made, it’s a solid 7 to 8 out of 10 as far as Halloween sequels go.

For me, Halloween Kills is the final Halloween movie. It was so well done and it was amazing to see Nick Castle and Jamie Lee Curtis on screen again.

I feel like completely ignoring the original Halloween 2 was a mistake. There really isn’t any reason to not include that into their canon.
I didn't see this in theaters, but I thoroughly enjoyed this sequel. It was the best decision to make it a direct sequel to the original and take out the brother and sister storyline. That took away from the shear fear of the first one, and showed Michael as an evil creature and not her brother. Plus I also loved how Laurie was portrayed as someone with severe untreated trauma who instead of running away from it (like H20), she just got stuck in it and gave up. I much prefer this trilogy. I enjoyed kills, and liked what they did with it until the very end. Then Ends unfortunately soured for me, but I appreciated Laurie Strodes ending. Can't wait to do my Halloween binge come spooky season!

I didn’t originally love 2018 when it came out but after watching Halloween kills and Halloween ends I have a much greater respect in Lake of Halloween 2018

this 2018 movie is along side Halloween 2 the best sequel to the first OG movie, imo.

At first, I originally enjoyed 2018 film. However, as time has gone on, & my passion for writing Horror grows, the more issues I tragically find with the film.

@@NightsLeaf in Laurie's motivations & in the consequences of her actions. For example, Laurie admits to praying every night that Michael would escape, so she can have her vengeance - but at no time, does she realize her selfish behavior, and grows as a character by letting go of her hatred. . All we hear from Laurie is "Michael is evil" & the other characters agree with hollow justifications.
@@martinwinter4209 oh yeah her actions are 100% selfish. If she really wanted to protect her familly she should have never do what she did and obsessively planed to meet him again. In a way, she became miserably obsessed with killing him which is ironic. But if you look at it in another way, you can see that the how she went with it by involving her familly in her vengance plans fortifies a vengance agaisnt Michael who is someone that has absolutely no one and never had anyone. Her familly helping her in the end and actually agreeing with her plans shows that she has support and is loved despite everything. It's selfish on her part and dumb on their part but it shows the familly unite she has. In the movie, which i just watched, there is someone saying "in a way him being the predator and her being the prey is what keeps them alive" which would be true for Michael who his only reason to keep being alive is to kill and being the predator. Meanwhile it's not true for Laurie because she has other reason to keep being alive than being a prey. In my opinion of course
@@NightsLeaf I can see where your coming from, & I used to view it the same. However, I've discovered that is a very contrived and coincidental scenario. What are the particular needs & desires that Laurie has to go & awaken the beast to a blind fury? I've come to believe that the writers themselves didn't include that important character element, that's why the second & third chapters felt so empty.
This could have been a well respected movie if they had just ended it after this one! The greed of making 2 more films ruined DGG reputation and, this franchise as a whole
I still say that the best trilogy of Halloween is the Original, the O.G. H2, and H4. I always stop my rewatches there.
So much potential squandered. Ends should've been part 2 and Kills should have been better and part 3. And Michael shouldn't had been institutionalized because.... How could they capture and keep evil locked up? Silly from the get...
just finished the book Taking Shape 2...if you love hearing about the behind the scenes drama about making movies and everything that goes into getting a movie going then you should definitely check it out especially if your a Halloween fan 🎃

Halloween 2018 is just OK, all it did was copy H20's far better story and did a few things better but also did many things worst! The movie was heavily lacking in many areas such as stalking his victims and playing games with them and no real chase scene! Comedy ruins scenes that should be scary and the horrible mad doctor twist was a really bad call! They should have kept Halloween 2 canon, that would have made Laurie's very over the top PTSD more believable! 2018 could have been great but as of right now it's just OK!
2018 was a decent horror film, deleting part 2 was silly. The ending makes sense gives Michael a proper demise
The movie was a success because of Jaime. Her ideas about the franchise have made these studios millions. This 2018 reboot was made cheap and because of a smart idea. The idea was priceless.

My second favourite after the original. They definitely should have just had Michael die in this one but they of course had to be greedy, which is why I have no hope for the exorcist movies coming out.
Halloween is approaching and say whst you want about this movie, but they made myers the shape again, he was more evil, more strong, and more hot and hunky.
This is the only good one of this new trilogy.

My generation was 1978 I was 10 years old and my buddies to. On Halloween night snuck in the R movie to see Halloween! I lived 6 blocks from our neighborhood theater in Wisconsin. When it was over the 3 off us got out at 1000 pm we got on our bikes and peddled as fast as we could peddle! I was in the lead! We got back to my house and I unlocked it and all 3 of us ran in fast! Mom goes how was the movie boys! I go murder just murder my buddy slugged me in my arm! Lol! That bad ah! My 2 buddies go it was great! Well sit down I made you boys home made pizza. In 1981 samething?! Lol!!!! If she really knew! I'm sure she did! My buddy left the news paper on the table before we left for the show house! 1978 in the paper read Halloween rated R! the doctor should have gotten his head stomped in then the camera pans over and he has a thorn tattoo on his arm. they didnt have to go into the cult in the other movies or even ref it again but, i think it wouldve been a nice hint at that and wouldve made more sense that this doctor let him loose

I love the kills in the movie but I don't care the story line of him staying a mental institution for 40 years. He's supposed to be this bad ass serial killer but stays in a mental institution the whole time and then finally he escapes. That don't make sense to me and I really was into the fact that they were siblings cause it made more sense why he would be going after the same women over and over and who ever got in the way was collateral damage but with all that said I think it was good slasher movie and I agree it would have been better just ended it at this movie and not make a trilogy
I liked this one and was really looking forward to the trilogy but.............the second one had great violence and kills but the tone and story line I hated so the film as a whole didn't work for me. Halloween Ends IMO was a piece of garbage. The original Halloween is my fav horror of all time so with that being the final entry I felt completely ripped off. If this is any mark of Blumhouse I think the new Exorcist may just be not my cup of tea at all.
