  • It's Spring, and everyone's thoughts are turning to scary things, costumes, candy, murder, and all things Halloween. Right?
Anyway, here are the sins of Halloween, the 2018 remake. It's actually pretty lame, outside of a couple really cool moments. And it's got sins. And hell, we weren't going to sit on this until the real October came around.
Next week: zombie sins and caper sins.
Remember, no movie is without sin! Which movie's sins should we expose next?!

I get that thought process but at the same time I’m sure for the average person any one of these events would be enough to cause anyone to be like this version of Laurie Strode, with the mind being a very fragile thing. Also I am kinda glad they didn’t involve Halloween 2 in this because I just hated that whole subplot where of which Laurie is Michael’s sister. It made no sense in my opinion and added nothing to the plot, I think they added it as a means to explain why Michael is after Laurie, but that to me at the time I saw it and even to this day just felt needless and if anything just took away from that factor of fear from what Michael Myers is. To me it’s the less I know about certain characters that makes them more scary, not knowing why they do what they do just makes me think I’m just prey to them. So I can totally understand Laurie’s personality in this film. It would have been nice if they kept H20 as canon to the film but that I think would’ve had more problems than just pulling a full clean slate.

Maybe the reason why Myers stalks Laurie in the first film, and kind of with this film, is because when he targets someone, he intends to kill them. Since Laurie escaped, he wants to finish what he started. She was the one who escaped. That could be why he has plenty of focus on her. But being only a sequel to the first film he killed 5 people 40yrs ago. There should be no fear of him being such an unstoppable figure of doom. So true. This movie has other problems-horrid pacing for starters, but the main problem with it is that in ignoring past sequels it still seems to want to draw upon parts of them (like halloween II, H20, and Halloween 4) that it just becomes really stupid. Though ignoring Halloween 2 is pretty stupid, so, yeah. I could deal with the direspecting H20, and ressurection sucked despite how easy it would've been to say "she survived the stab wound and lived on and he went back to the aslyum for like 18 years" but not the one that stapled the series so well.

Eh. I've actually been kicked in the head and you can still function pretty well after for a bit. I'm sure Laurie had a really nasty headache for a while though. And in Halloween 1 she was attacked repeatedly by Michael, stalked by him, and went around that home finding all her friends' dead bodies, while trying to protect herself and two little kids from the killer. Pretty traumatic, especially for a teenager.

1:16 This. This right here. The whole thing about Michael in this movie is that he's built up to be this monstrous figure, when... all he really did was kill his sister and a couple horny teenagers in the 70's. He'd really only have this level of myth to him if you factor in the sequels, which are getting ignored since this film is meant to be a direct sequel to the original 1978 film.

A better way to do it would be for Michael Myers being released from prison on a technicality. Maybe the doctor could have used a plea of insanity, and then said that because Michael Myers had been a model inmate all these years, he deserved to be released into the care of the doctor. But then when he is being transferred to a mental hospital, something happens, and he escapes. Then Michael decides to get revenger on Laurie because she put him in prison. Or maybe during the car accident he hits his head and turns evil again.

So true. This series ignoring installments whenever it feels like it has killed fans not just spitting fanboy crap and seriousness. Also the failure to make the thorn storyline work over 3 films when it's barely in the first two of it. But even with H20 they could've went from there or Laurie's bloodless kill in Ressurection even. You can't ignore Halloween II regardless-it means too much no matter what. Least with Jason there's "supernatural strong but hardly invincible guy with messed up face since childhood" and "zombie gothic horror Jason." Fans may be divided but there's really only one world, and if you want to say, two. Not...1...2....3...I lost count on Halloween (not including the remakes). I care more about uncut and/or restored scenes to make Halloween 5 better than sequel to fake loomis, crappy sarah connor rip-off plotting, and disrespecting danielle harris jamie loyd (again!) anyday. Because Michael having no connection to Laurie or the five people he murdered means that anyone could be a victim. Other people might feel safer if Michael and Laurie were related because if Laurie is his only target they wouldn't be in danger (provided they don't get in between him and his sister). The only thing scarier than someone having a motive to kill five people is someone having no motive and still killing five people.

Not that you could prove it, but Michael's fixation with Laurie could have been she was the one to go to his home and drop the papers off. That this movie erases all but the first hurts it because it needs that tie in. Otherwise, why does Laurie fixate on him? From an investigatory point of view, Laurie was simply the next person on his list. He saw her. He saw that she saw him. He knew to get away, he'd need to kill her.

Michael Plowman because John Carpenter said himself that Michael had no real motive in the first movie. There wasn’t supposed to be a sequel. Loomis’ explained Michaels character: that he purely and simply evil with no conscience. He was going back to his hometown, saw Laurie first and then began stalking her and her friends. No relationships. No real motive. She just happened to be the one that got away. It’s a simple concept that doesn’t need to be over complicated

    - you try to hide in the basement, but then shoot and give away your position?
    - you leave the basement again after you don't know where he is anymore instead of just leaving the door open aimed with a gun?
    - after he's shot, you attack im with a knife? Shouldn't you be carrying several guns?
    - he's laying in front of you on the floor, why don't you shoot him?
    - he's standing locked in on the stairs, why don't you shoot him and instead burn down your house?

While I thoroughly enjoy the Halloween series and I do mean all of them (Part 6 kinda okay). I have to admit it would be a massive implausible stretch to incorporate all the other movies. I mean Laurie was killed off in Halloween Resurrection. She isn't supernatural so no they could not save her from the stabbing and fall off the roof from that height. Her trauma was too great to survive. The truth of the matter was that they had a continuity mess on their hands with no option but to start over after the first one. Heck they could have probably even gotten away with actually starting after the second one.
Michael somehow managed to survive having been shot in BOTH EYES and burned to a golden crisp. You know supernatural and evil and all that....
Then locked away in the maximum security nuthouse, but able to still see because of "the evil" and all that despite having his eyes blown to pudding in part 2. I'm not even going to address the massive brain trauma he would have suffered from those bullets because....reasons...so lets just say "the evil" sustained him. Now we are ready for Halloween 2018 where Laurie having spent the last 40 years being aware of the fact Michael having both eyes as well as his brain shot to mush is still alive and kicking in a nuthouse. This would have provided her with the knowledge she needed about Michael to know he is truly supernatural and properly prepare (as much as one can when fighting something obviously supernatural). She would have realized that she can't kill him through conventional means so her best chance at stopping him would be to subdue him and imprison him in something a non-teleporting supernatural entity can't escape like...I don't know.....a multi layer, totally sealed steel box welded and bolted. Built in a pit on her property complete with only one way in, then once he was inside, close the lid, weld it shut, put 10 feet of dirt on top of it. Pour a concrete pad and put up a she-shed. Maybe he can't die, but at least this way he can think about his actions until he is ready to say sorry.

Hopefully those terrible one-liners are excised from the upcoming sequels. Laurie was kind of annoying in this movie (her running to the top of a set of stairs and yelling “Karen” comes to mind immediately as does her doing security checks in her daughter’s house), but that’s most likely due to Jamie Lee Curtis having way more input than she should have had.

She weighed anywhere from 135-170 lbs and I struggled to pick up her dead weight. No way this 60 plus year old doctor who got shot mind you could have picked Michael Myers up and put him into the vehicle.
