In this clip, Damian Marley discusses how his parents met and the untimely death of his iconic father, Bob Marley. Damian recalls early moments of his childhood with his older siblings and reflects on how those relationships were fostered. He also reveals the origin of his nickname Jr. Gong, and how dancehall music deeply influenced his style of music today. While unpacking the backstory to his second album, Halfway Tree, Marley goes in depth about how oppression and social inequity dominates his music. He talks about how his life, though privileged, lay at the crux of the "Halfway Tree" which divided Damian's town in Jamaica along class lines. - Zábava

vlad don’t forget you’re a piece of shit
Vlad u know u work for the feds don't u
I can’t even imagine how proud Bob Marley would be if he saw how he’s youngest son turned out to be. 🥺 I wish he was alive.
I can bet he’s very proud. Jr Gong is no doubt Bob’s legacy. Just like how King David had Solomon as a bastard but he was his legacy it’s the same here. God blessings doesn’t come gift wrapped how we would expect.
This man has his ear to the street and more people should pay attention. He's bringing spirituality to the streets where it's needed most. My favorite of all the Marley's.
Positive...
Jah bless
Okay
His father definitely had his ear tuned into the struggle and the street life as well if you go back and listen to deeper cuts.. but agreed.. Damian offers a perspective through his music barely anyone else is even close to
Aw
There’s something profoundly powerful and sincere about this man
AMEN!!! That's what struck me first and still does
Hes honest
Very respectful and humble man. Big up! Jr. Gong the youngest veteran!
Rastas in general
Damian is a lovely man, he is so like his dad in his mannerisms and speech. Spooky. Bob would be so very proud of him.
He sounds so much like him.
yeah damian in sound very much like his dad and feel
Bob said he didn't really want his children to follow in his foot steps,. He wanted them to go to school
Yes! To me he’s the one who’s most like Bob.. Ziggy sounds like Bob singing but Damian he’s all the mannerisms and kindness
When he mentioned his father died when he was 2 and I saw the tears about to fall from Damian's eyes...I cried like a baby. I need to meet this man.
So easy to know who would be easy to get along with when you see their comments. Praise YAH I felt this one
I think he just red eyed from the herb
@@xhildhood Exactly. Been asked about it his whole life but now he's gonna cry.
45 seconds in, you could definitely see him holding it
I thought I could see that in his eyes
Big up to their mothers. It makes sense to put the children first.
His accent 😍😍😍 & so poised
He mentioned Halfway Tree,my mom told me that’s where she grew up in Jamaica 🇯🇲💪🏽
The Marley brothers are amazing natrually talented. Just like their father.
Bob had far more musical talent , there can be only one, his son's are not as good
Bobs grandson skip sounds exactly like him
I saw Ziggy in the same jean suit as Bob Marley.. unbelievable 🥴
@@351clevelandmodifiedmotor4 As a musician, Stephen is beyond Bob. It's not even close. I love Bob and all.
@@ervinboyd281 you don't know shit, shut up
Damian Marley's story needs to be recognized man!
These interviews needs way more views. Bob is living through his children you can hear it in their voices and songs.
A. A Bruh, you can hear that too???????
Yeah shawty, its pure !
What are you talking about? Damian is a VERY talented Rasta singer!
Nunya Bizness No no he could never sing ike his father.
Damien’s story is Bobs legacy. Peace and love to the Marley’s.
He's so normal, and I mean that in the best possible way, he's honest and has absolutely no airs and graces. He was raised well and is so well spoken. I really admire him for going his own way as in style of music , obviously before I really started listening to his music I did just think of him as Bob Marley's son but he's so talented in his own right and deserves so much recognition for his talent. I just love interviews with him, his father would be so proud of his humbleness ✌️🌻
Bob Marley didn't have sons... he had disciples. Love the hat

When I was a young teenager, I always thought he was soooooooo handsome. 😍😍😍😍
A very humble and conscious guy!!👍🏽🇯🇲
His mummy isn't humble. And he isn't that privilaged. HIS EX STEP DAD IS A THIEVING CUT OF A LAWYER SO YOU WOULDN'T EXPECT HIM TO not attend a prep school.I literally saw and heard his mummy insulted a hungry peasant.ain 1986 in lens happy supermarket as he begged her something from her heavily rammed tolley. She and A gal name Donna Felts were joint owners of the Craft shop upstairs the plaza. From that day I wish upon her omen. Her life wouldn't have taken the trajectory it had.Had she not met male. CB YOU ARE A WHITE CUT YOU HIT A NUN AT IMMUCA CONCEPT. I HATE THOSE WHITE JAM FULLER'S. THEY ARE NOTHING SPECIAL
@@swahilimandela5610 what's his mother got to do with him? Because his mother is pale skinned, beggers in Jamaica will follow behind you and constantly beg and after a while it begins to annoy you if you cant even walk down the road without someone begging 15-20 times each day. The Bible says it's a sin to beg and those who dont work wont eat. Imagine if 30 people begged her something every time each day, how would she even feed herself?
I dont think you understand how Jamaicans think, but the beggars are worse and most Jamaicans think that even the very shoes on your feet you must take them off and give them to someone straightaway if someone asks you for them just because they think you can buy another pair the same day. Some Jamaicans can be very self-absorbed that way.
I was at a funeral in Jamaica last month and was wearing goloshes/wellington/water boots and a woman was looking at them and saying 'oh your feet are really small, much smaller than mine' meaning if my feet were the same size as hers or bigger she would have asked me for the boots I had on and be expected to have them straight away otherwise she would have cussed me and called me a 'mean english' to shame me, or 'you live in England, you can always buy another pair' etc.
These are the things Jamaicans do to shame and beg and embarrass you when they *think* you have more than them just because you live overseas. They wont do it to the tourists anymore because they know the police will lock them up if a tourist complains about beggars, that's why tourists dont have that happen to them.
I have seen the nasty covetous behaviour in Jamaica and it becomes draining after a while, even family members will do it. why do you think most of the younger Marleys dont live there?
THAT is why Cindy cussed off the beggar, because if you give to one, they will brag to other beggars and those other beggars will come to beg when they see them running errands too. I have seen beggars only walk up to light-skinned people in Jamaica, because they assume light/pale-skinned people are rich and some are rude enough to even tap their shoulder and they know they cant to that to dark-skinned Jamaicans.
@J K This was a long time ago She hadn't cussed him.She answered the man so condescending. AND HER EX HUSBAND IS A NASTY THIEVING BASTARD. LIGHT SKINNED IS NOTHING THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND AUTHENTIC SHADE US THE BLUE BLACK SHADE.RITA MORLEY SAID IN AN INTERVIEW I WAS TOLD.SHE WAS VERY DISDAINFULLY RIDICULED FOR HER SHADE THE DEGRADING TERM'BLACKIE TUTU".AND THE INSULTING SAYING'ANYRING TOO BLACK ISN'T GOOD".I BOY GUESS WHAT YELLOW SKINNED. @Jessica Johnson, Wouldn't we all. He was a man ahead of his time.
When he said “great!” I felt that. To win a Grammy so early in his career. On only the second album. Bob marleys blood but his sons has there own talent. They are truly talented.
His speaking voice is very similar to the one of his father. And his manerism too, the way he moves his head when he says "right"..
Rip Bob Marley 🙏😢

Damion grew up in upper class suburbia with Cindy and her first husband, a politician with the Jamaica Labour Party. He did not start performing with Bob's children with Rita, but with his social peers (children of his mother and step father's friends.) Dancehall was the big influence on youngsters of all classes, including the gentry. While there were conscious DJs who advocated morals, Damion started out imitating Shabba Ranks' cocksman genre, and deejayed about his father (Bob) being a Bedroom Bully. When he started to work with Stephen Marley, his lyrics changed and became more socially critical, and Stephen's excellent production helped make him a star.
I really love this man. I met him in Montego Bay back in 2004 when he, Ziggy and Stephen came to Club Inferno for a concert. Very grassroots and deep Prince. Much love and respeck to Jr. Gong😇💛💯💪🔥👑💰
His mustache make him look like he always serious.

I am impressed with this family as a whole. Every interview I see with Damian or any other member of the fam shows how respectful they were of their fathers and mothers. One heck of a hard working family. They were taught well.

He reminds me so much of his father , his voice is almost identical
I appreciate a reporter that does their homework and provides a balanced perspective
This was a beautiful interview until the end. Damian felt like he was coming for his character you could see him tense up but then handled it with heart.
This young man has the wisdom of someone much older.
He doesn't think he's above his countrymen and you can tell he has a real connection with those living the struggle and recognizes the fact he's just a generation removed and if not for music he probably wouldn't exist.
Rappers from the hood in the United States would do well to listen to him.
My fav song will always be welcome to Jam rock

It shows Alot more character and integrity in someone than most when they do come from a privileged background but they have a passion for exposing the inequalities and struggles the lesser have to battle on a daily basis...all of BM children seem to have that humility and strength of character...the world was Blessed when that Family was formed,I actually met Ziggy and Rohan at a UM game many years ago..so friendly and humble they were:)
