  • Who is Bas Rutten? This is the first basic puncher to achieve success in MMA. This is a guy with killer palm punches, which he used to beat off the liver of his rivals. He spent most of his career in one of my favorite promotions, Pancrase. And today I will show you the best fight finishes of this sports legend, which will prove to you again that the old school is the best school.

So they were hungry for legitimate unscripted fights. Thank goodness two Bushido wrestlers listened and started pancrase or we might have had WWF style UFC early on. I couldn't keep it up because I couldn't afford it regularly, but I was able to get into one of the few classes he taught every month or so. During the class, he went around during the light sparring warm ups and watched each pair for a little bit before giving some advice on how everyone could capitalize on their strengths or mitigate for some of the weaker parts of their fighting skill repetoire. It was really insightful to me at the time since I'd been defaulting to my grappling techniques because of my lack of confidence in my striking at that time.
