Had More Power Than Tyson... One Punch Knockouts and the True Story of Tommy Morrison

  • Tommy Morrison will forever remain one of the most tragic figures throughout pugilistic history. In the 90s the blond giant with a chiseled silhouette was the embodiment of a knockout machine. But the prominent heavyweight’s career was cut short in the prime of his potential, suddenly and irrevocably. Today we remember the legendary power and dramatic path of boxing’s "great white hope".

How many lives do u think he took with him between the women he infected and the CTE he likely dished out from the PED's?? Videos like this keep him alive for all the wrong reasons. He should be remembered with guys like Panama Jack - NOT MIKE TYSON!!!

A sad shame for someone that had found fame AND Fortune... to not cap its reality, and calm down in appreciation... BUT, "Boys" will be boys... in empathy and sending condolences... this IS our chosen life... it is honestly a wake-up, in how to make life's best choices. YET, Another talent destroyed by flamboyance and false administered "Self-worth"... there is ALWAYS the retribution of "The balancing Act" that can NEVER be ignored! Sadly, he did! Choices, choices... everywhere, not all roads lead to Paradise! ...or to the Ultimate success, no matter WHAT you do, but this a fine example of what NOT to do!

It's a poignant reminder that talent can shine incredibly bright but can also dim too soon. Morrison was a beast in the ring, a knockout machine that had fans on the edge of their seats. But his story also serves as a cautionary tale, a lesson about the fragility of life and how quickly fortunes can change. Thank you for doing justice to the complexity of his legacy. I didn't see the precision in Tommy that I did in Iron Mike, but that being said it isn't always necessary: Gene Fullmer beat Ray Robinson twice (plus 1 loss add 1 draw), and Sugar Ray way by far the more polished and precise boxer.
I felt like Tommy never was the same after the Mercer fight. I think he sufdered actual brain damage. I was shocked he wasn't killed. I maintain to this day that the ref should have stopped it sooner. He was criminally derilect in letting any fighter take that kind of pummelling.
To a casual fan ot would have seemed like a good shellacing, but I know a lot of boxing officials who were swearing at the TV by the time Morrison stunbled out of the corner, still taking Mercer's best shots to the head.

He was a really hard puncher, but he was never "the best at his profession". He was not even a top 5 Heavyweight at any point in his career. I loved Tommy Morrison, and was crushed when he lost to that asshole Ray Mercer. But I would never go as far to say he was the best. I do admit I would've loved to see a prime Morrison vs. prime Tyson though. I think a prime Tyson would win early because pre Douglas, Mike had a good chin, and could have likely absorbed Tommy's big punches or would have not been hit with his head movement, bobbing and weaving. I could easily see Mike putting The Duke down with one punch though. Perhaps an uppercut like he put Jose Ribalta down with or a devastating overhand right like he put Larry Holmes down the first time with. The difference is, Ribalta and Holmes, especially Holmes, had a granite chin. Tommy Morrison's chin was always like a fine piece of china.

Great fights, but not a great time for sportsmanship. Although I guess there was always a darkside to every sport, boxing just really hit a rough patch there. Not many idols to look up to, regardless of their talent. Also kind of sad his nickname was "The Great White Hope", I'm not sure it's touched on here since I've only started it, but there was a lot of racism back then and 100 percent that's what that title was referring to. A lot of racism today too, but it was very common from my experience to see people explicitly rooting for their race to win the fight. Which is just such a stupid, pathetic piece of of human culture. btw he have a good physique but he is not so quite strong in his strokes and he is also not quite as strong at his arms and shoulders (at least so far not so much musclemass there) but he is already strong and athletically and have good potencial in terms of movement and also quite enduring from the system her and at least from the physical point of view comperatively good abilitys to box intelligent moreof a mixture of a puncher and a athlete , more of a allrounder then an pure boxer

It's boxing in the 90's for you. Tommy Morrison was a BEAST. He and Mike Tyson were the wrecking balls of the early 90s and I loved watching him fight. The power this man had. You can still see it now in these clips. He even kocked people out with bodyshots!

A great deal can be said about his character in watching his fights. As soon as he hit his opponent and they started to drop he stepped back. Can clearly tell he had a great deal of respect for the profession. I knew he partied, but who the hell wouldn't coming from nothing and rising to the top. He said he wished he would have been a better role model. Tommy you were a damn good one, makes me sad for you to think you were not, rest in piece.
