Holyfield was unbelievably tough. Maybe the best chin of all the 90's hw's. The damage Bowe dropped in that first fight would've taken out almost everyone.

Holyfield is 90s Muhammad Ali maybe not sucessfull as him but he never ducked anyone he fought everyone , Lennox Lewis , Mike Tyson, Riddick Bowe all big names named Evander Holyfield as best i faced at ringtv. Evander beat 11 world heavyweight champions, the 2nd most in heavyweight history that shows how tough hes competition was and don't forget he started as light heavyweight.
Hes really underrated because he retired late and has double digit losses but compared to champs like Tyson Fury he is a real warrior. Tyson and bowe were best friends from young children… neighbours and went through school together in the same class… amazing to have two so talented fighters in the same street… but that was so often the case that real talent in boxing game came from the toughest and most impoverished neighbourhoods in the states as a way out the hard life they suffered
True
Mike said before that was the reason he never wanted to fight Bowe.. I don't like the headline to this video
Tyson is a year older than bowe so how could they have even been in the same class at school ?
Bowe didn't know tyson in school tyson knew of him but this would of been a perfect style for tyson a bigger aggressive man who wanted to come forward and throw hands Mike love it peekaboo good night you.
From street hood rat drug dealer to fighting mostly “ tomato cans” BIG STEP UP !
This guy is amongst the greatest of all time! Riddick and Holyfied are the toughest rock solid boxers i have ever watched. As for Golota, he knew how to disqualify himself out of the game.
Thr way bowe can transition from inside to long range while throwing combos is a wonder to behold. The combinations are like juan manuel marquez. He can throw as many punches as a lightweight and throws with speed and lots of power. Bowe and larry homes are 2 of my favourite heavyweights of all time.
I’m not familiar with Bowe that much but man is it impressive everytime he’s throwing so many combos til the end I’m like damn he still got gas in the tank holy sht
Those fights with Holyfield are absolute classic fights. I highly recommend any fight fan to go find them. This first one specifically was a brawl.
One of the best fights I've ever seen. But Holyfield has a few of those.
best trilogy ever imo. And the first fight was the best fight I ever saw for HW's. It was like 200+ guys did a Ward/Gatti fight
Yep. I remember watching Bowe-Holyfield 1 live. Bowe entered the ring to Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight." Strange song selection I thought. But it turned out to be an omen. That night, Bowe was primed and ready. Evander wasn't going to give in. And what a fight. The pace and skills shown were amazing. A lesser heart in Holyfield's body would have been KO'd. But no. Evander, ever the warrior, would not give up. I think neither guy was ever the same after that fight. Legend!
@@presence5426 i still say that there wasnt a heavyweight alive (or maybe ever) that could have beaten Bowe that night. He was simply unbeatable. Lewis etc would have been toast had he fought the Bowe that fought that night. In the same vein there wasnt another HW that could have beaten Evander that night either...except Bowe. That Evander would have demolished Tyson, Lewis etc like they were bugs. That was a once in a lifetime type of fight.
Yes they showed the heart of a lion in Holyfield who fought a much taller and heavier opponent!
He was like the student who study less but still gets A++ in exams
That's not a very good analogy. As a boxer, he did train very hard. Not to mention, he dropped out of high school to get into boxing.
@@nightelfuser OK
The former was a compliment !!
@@nightelfuser Wrong, its the perfect analogy. Bowe in his early career trained hard, but as soon as he became heavyweight champion he never had the same dedication or hunger again. The last fight that he truly trained like a champion was the 3rd holyfield fight. After that his career took a downward spiral at his own hands.
Which is really a shame because he could have actually beaten Lewis.

Tommy Hearn,s a lovely gentleman too.
The only boxer I met came to my house when I was kid he was one of my dad's friends. Roberto Duran his wife also enrolled to the same hair salon my mom worked in.

Ya gotta luv tyson too. He was so powerful for a smaller heavyweight. Pound for pound i gotta give it to Tyson as #1 of all time.
@@Jamesthepilgrimjourney if we are talkin height yes he was on the small side, but weight wise he was rather heavy even at a young age of 18 he was already 214lb and as he got older his weight went up too.
if we are talking smallest heavyweight of all time overall jack Dempsey was 6'1, but he was only 190lb that's nearly 30lb difference from mike tyson and the guy was fighting huge guys with weight difference much bigger than Tyson ever fought.
without jack Dempsey there is no peekaboo style. while he didn't invent it his style uses the same function of shifting weight to throw hard punches to make up for height and weight difference.

I grew up boxing in the DC area and I was being trained at the time by Riddick’s trainer (Marvin Simms “Coach Rock” also trained Sharmba Mitchell, Bill Joppy and Demarcus Corley amongst others) when he got out of prison and was planning on making a comeback. He definitely couldn’t go back into prize fights at that point, but i sparred him and he still hit like an absolute freight train.
He was a pretty good dude to me.
He was a hard puncher? He looked like a hard puncher but heard different accounts of his punching power by sparring partner. He looked like he hit hard and I was surprised some of his sparring partners said he didn’t hit hard.
@@mmcneil777 It's it's misleading on videos. Like you would say Foreman hits soft as pillows when you see the punches, but watching the opponents drop like flies again and again and again... You go like WTF ? lol

Riddick Bowe is easily one of my favourite boxers of all time. At one time he had it all; all the necessary attributes to be a world champion who would be recognized by all boxing sanctioning bodies. In the end there was some unrealized potential left on the table by Bowe which prevented him from smashing through to the ranks of the most elite and greatest fighters ever.
He had so much potential. But apart from hollyfield who has he really beaten ? He did not fight tyson, mercer , Lewis , tua , ruddock , Morriston, Holmes (yes I mean the 90s Holmes) Forman , moorer...I'm not saying he ducked them but it's just unfortunate. His 2 title defences against a totally washed up miichael dokes and...wait for it...Jessie ferguson were horrible.
Good point, Jesse Ferguson was never elite contender status let alone a title defense? But the amount of punishment Bowe dealt... especially his pinpoint accuracy were devastating
@JeffLundy-ii8vi I'm pretty certain in Fairness to bowe he was gping to fight mercer untill shock loss to ferguson. Also, he was going to fight Lewis untill l his shock loss to Oliver mccall. Its a shame that those fights did not happen. That said, he clearly ducked Lewis at first when he beat hollyfield.

Bowe was one of the few highly skilled heavyweights with a huge size advantage, but he knew Lewis matched him for size and skill and ducked him.

Its all training in the end. Some one untrained would be destroyed by a trained pro.
That's what made him boring to watch imo.
He was very gifted to me, he had power and fast hands. He also moved beautifully for a guy his size, quick footwork when he decided to use it. For a guy that size most move very sloppy.
It’s a pity that Holyfield was 15/20 lbs shy of a true heavyweight at 205 lbs ...that’s amazing for what he achieved in boxing.
