    One thing I finally got (from another of your videos) is that "thin" paint doesn't mean super-thinned with mineral spirits, but more the light touch and 'scrub' of putting it on in a thin and transparent way. Sure it's less paint on the brush, but it's mostly how it's put on the panel 'thinly'.

    I tried using baby oil to clean brushes. IT WORKED !
    I was desperate to stop using real turpentine. My head was getting woosy for a day or so after.
    It worked. I just dipped the brush and wiped it clean.

    Thanks again for a pleasant and informative video. Interesting comment that people respond to brush strokes.
    It’s part of the soul of the painting and the artist so glad it’s recognized and embraced.

    How do you get your oil paints to spread so well? Also do you recommend a certain brand? I love your videos, they’re so helpful for my artwork at school :)!

    3:55 great advice....also when painting on canvas...scrub in the block in so it stains the canvas.
    I've seen an artist that actually puts a shop towel (very good for wiping..cleaning brushes) onto the wet paint to soak up the oil...paint then paints on top...can I ask you ..your thoughts on this? Would this effect the long term and or drying of the painting . Although it works for him I do think the stain of the canvas left in some areas just doesn't have enough paint on the final piece..surface...

    Thank you for all the great videos. They have been a wealth of useful information. Here is what I want to know. How do you approach the initial drawing process. Specifically, what mental process do you use to reference your lines, angles, proportions as you lay them in. Has it been an evolving skill for you? I struggle with this part and usually do a drawing transfer step but want to learn a different way.

    I really like all your seascapes. In my region (west of France) the problem is that there are no bays, rocks, irregularities. there are just dunes and waves as far as the eye can see. Have you ever managed to get paintings of such beaches?

    • @chamberlainpaintings
      @chamberlainpaintings  Před 4 lety

      Yes! I have a beach nearby that has lots of sand dunes. I recently did several paintings of dunes with a trace of blue ocean in the background. Two of the paintings have sold already. I plan to go back and paint that location again.
