    Michael, I made it all the way to the end, and have followed you for almost your whole time on this channel. So I knew bits and pieces of all your events, and travels, and how your work evolved. Yes your an inspiration for so many people that want to paint. I would have given anything in the ‘60’s to have someone like you teaching. There was no such thing, but thankful for you now. im entering my 2nd year of uni as an art student and its been an emotional journey. Its hard not to think about the "what if i don't make it far in the art field as my career". But its nice to see someone live your dream and see them grow. I love making art and i plan to never stop making them. Thank you for the encouragement

Everyone tries to show the best side of what they're doing which can be deceptive in a way. I like your idea of making messages of keeping it loose. I feel the same way about my current work being too tight. I just came back from an 8 year hiatus from painting. Back than I was painting narrative driven figurative work that was more realistic like, sorta stuff you might find in Juxtapose at that time, but certainly not at much at Sacramento. I started the same year you did and early on literally put stuff up in hair salons all that, but I never really had a market in Sacramento for what I was doing, I had to push into So Cal mostly and the Bay intruder to sell anything. But I stopped for a variety of reasons. EFG was probably the only gallery in town that actually showed my work so that's cool that you show there as well. But I'm four months back into exploring this nature and landscape focused style and its pretty freeing, we shall see where it goes.

    Thanks for this moment Mike, I was trying to find inspiration to paint again and you helped a lot with this. Although I was thinking you had struggles even living in the country with by far the most art buyers in the world. It's like there's no much left for us living in countries full of snob assholes following stupid tendencies, it's like there is no place for happy colorful landscape/cityscape paintings. Lately I was even painting with disdain thinking the painting would end piled up with the other ones at home. It's difficult to buy stuff and put your heart out when you know literally almost no one will enjoy your work. Very very frustrating. But you are a fighter and that's an aspect to look up to, I did plenty of things in my life (even leaving all behind and migrating to another country where I had to learn a new language and adapt myself) and now It's like Im tired, plus the people right now is fking nuts, agressive, deffensive and stupid so social interaction doesn't call me right now. But I know I have to paint and be creative no matter what, becquse that's who I am. Today I posted an old fine landscape I did some years ago to "have the feel" of showing a painting again and I had just 4 likes in the fist 10' (after that you are practically dead in the friend/family zone) so I erased it and I won't post it again. I've had enough. The new algoryhtm sucks, so not even social media helps to find potential customers. Hope you are doing good with Crohn's these days, that's one nasty illness to have trying to keep a good quality of life.

    • @chamberlainpaintings
      @chamberlainpaintings  Před 3 lety +3

      I think the thing to do is paint paintings that you'd like to hang on your walls and ignore what others may think. If you like your work, eventually you'll find others who like it too. If you don't have to depend on selling paintings consider yourself lucky. Just paint to please yourself! As for Crohn's, it's been in remission for years so I feel better than ever. 👍

Also, I’m happy to say that my dry spell is over and I painted last weekend for the first time in a long time and really enjoyed it and also enjoyed the results. (I did it over zoom with friends and we had a blast). I’ve been watching your videos a lot, but haven’t been painting, so I wasn’t sure how much these were influencing me. Turns out, they were! Just found your videos and love them! You are so open and honest and willing to share your knowledge. Thank you!! I used to watch an amazing artist on TV in the 80’s; Helen VanWyk She had a show called “welcome to my studio”. I’m guessing those are the video cassettes you were speaking of? I think she used the same medium mixture as you, which makes me think she is the artist you were trying to remember. I think you can still find her videos and books on eBay. Please keep making your videos. You are very inspiring!

      Thanks! Glad you’re enjoy my videos. Many people have suggestions Helen, but the videos were done by someone else. Unfortunately the name of the instructor wasn’t mentioned in an obvious way so I’ve been unable to remember. Maybe I’ll share some of the exercises 😊

    I really love your work and YT content. Thank you so much for posting! I have so many questions I would like to ask you, but for now I guess I will just start off with asking, what made you decide to do oil painting versus other types of painting?

      Glad you like my work! I like the look of oil paintings. I also like that they're very durable and can be framed without being covered with glass.

      Several people have guessed Helen Van Wyk, but it wasn't her. I should have said that in the video. 😂
