Nice progression from the sketch. I appreciate your narrative as you paint too. I always find in my own paintings that the "figuring out" is what makes it so much fun. I find it difficult to guard against that one stroke that goes too far and makes a painting overworked. You can always wipe it back, but there is a great sense of satisfaction of catching yourself before you lay that stroke down. I look forward to the rest of the painting Michael.

Thanks! I feel like even the sections that get wiped out can add character to the finished work. As long as they're not completely painted over. I enjoy the "figuring out" too!

The fact that this video only has 37 comments and is 3 years old upsets me. I watch this video so often it's insane, the way you describe what and how you're looking at and how to make it read in the painting WHILE you're doing it is helpful and perfect, to me.

I’m following right along Mike, and enjoying all of your process . Speaking out as to the why and what for,.. I see how dark you make the shadows even though the trucks are “ white’ ! Interesting, I always learn from you, and still learning my WMO. ( water mixable oils) . When your eighty and have to stay in there’s nothing else I’d rather be doing. Thanks so much Mike for sharing your knowledge.

As always love your talking through your decision making. Yeah, Schmid is a master, and you are following his creed that there is no excuse for bad drawing, maybe unbeknownst to you. If the drawing has accuracy you can be as suggestive (expressive) as you want and it reads well. You have that down Mr. Chamberlain! Your loose style works! Bravo

Thoroughly enjoyed watching this. It's looking good so far. There are a lot of complicated shapes. I'm also appreciating you talking us through the process. Thanks Mike.

I find myself rocking side to side as you flick the brush (side to side) following the moves of the brush. fascinating...

Killer brush waggling! :) I’ve heard you talk about this before and have found it to be an effective way to stay loose. Now I just need to make it a habit. Thank you for sharing your talent. I appreciate you posting a real-time video and for including your thoughts and guidance. This video brighten my day and made for an enjoyable lunch hour.

Hi Michael, I really love when you do subject matter like this. Your drawing skills are amazing. I know this is going to be a really cool painting. Your commentary on Richard Schmid made me laugh. I don’t think you’re guilty of oil painting sacrilege.. haha. I think Schmid is a living master. But like you, I just prefer another style. Hey, no music fan would disagree that Joe Satriani and Jeff Beck have mad skills on the guitar, but some people just prefer Eric Clapton 😊

I liked the joke about the hungry dude looking like Bigfoot. Would you ever paint him as BF and let the viewer figure it out? I think I would.

Haha! I am not a Richard Schmidt fan either. This is a super video! Have you tried Gamblin’s solvent-free gel?

Hi Mike, I've been watching your videos for a while and really enjoy them. Why not just use Linseed oil for your medium? I've been using it for over 20 years and I find it works great, when used thin for a wash the Painting is dry the next day.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've read not to use pure linseed oil because it has a tendency to yellow. Maybe I'll give it a try anyway! Glad you're enjoying my videos!

@@chamberlainpaintings Hey Mike, Thanks for getting back , I've read that too but I also read that it's not enough to worry about. I just choose to use it because I know it's safe and I only use it for the underpainting, after that, I paint mainly straight from the tube using very little. I like your work, I saw some at the Studio Gallery when I was in San Fran a year and a half ago.
Hey like your singing and playing the guitar, you remind me of Woody Guthrie, I'm sure your a fan of his...I would buy your music. I have a good friend who has a similar style and has made a couple of CDs.
