  • THIS is the Best Stadium District that I've Ever Built! | Verde Beach 107
Hello everyone and welcome back to Verde Beach! In this episode, Sheila Johnson and her consortium of power players ARE bringing professional sports to Verde Beach, with the help of just a little bit of public funding... In this episode, we'll build the stadium, a pedestrian entertainment district, and a train connection to make this a truly unique area in the City. We'll also address a couple of comments from the previous episode that'll take the rail and Myrtle Park up to the next level. Enjoy!

Nice name for the stadium but the name of the team sounds more like a basketball team. Most football/soccer teams just have the name of the city and then ‘FC’ or ‘Sporting’ or something like that before it. So ‘Verde Beach FC’ would be a good name but maybe ‘The Meteorites’ would be a good nickname as most football/soccer teams have a nickname

I think you should include the last stop before the stadium in the stadium line. That way the blue line serves as a collector and people don't have to go all the way into the central city just to go to the stadium.
Would significantly benefit the transit system.

    • @Yes_I_Would_Kent

Agree with this! At Wembley Park (nearest station to Wembley Stadium in London) there are two underground lines that both travel through Baker Street. The Jubilee line has 8 stops between the two, Metropolitan line only has 2.
Having an option like you suggest would greatly benefit passengers looking to travel both a short and longer distances.
Edit - Johannes has a great comment below about how rail transit should operate at the Stadium! Definitely worth an upvote!

Reasonably you should have the direct shuttle service to the city center running only on match days and then another service stopping at all stations on the way into the city which allows to serve the stadium parking lot as a park&ride whenever there's no match on, that way it also serves as a transit connection for the suburban hellscape that is to be developed around the stadium :)

Edit: made an additional comment (#10 reply below) which is beneficial for additional context.
Recently went to Wembley Stadium in the UK which this stadium looks like. At Wembley the train station & stadium are the furthest facilities apart in terms of distance. All of the shops, hotels & food/drinks places are dotted along 'Olympic Way' (between Wembley Park Station & Wembley Stadium) which directs foot traffic mostly in one direction (towards the stadium before the game, then in reverse after).
Another example would be the London Stadium (host of London 2012 Olympics), most rail passengers get off at Stratford Station & walk through Westfield Shopping Centre as the most convenient direction of travel before arriving at the stadium.
At the moment rail passengers in Verde Beach can enter the stadium without interacting with any of the leisure district. This is the same with car passengers. Both sets of footfall would have to walk past the stadium to enter the leisure district which creates less synergy in directions of travel in the hours before the game (people walking towards leisure district at the same time as some leaving the leisure district).
Businesses here would want the maximum exposure before and after the game and foot traffic that has to walk past these businesses ensures this would happen. At the moment they are missing out on a lot of matchday trade.
Would this stadium benefit with the leisure district between the train station & stadium? Swapping the leisure district & stadium would ensure rail & car attendees walk in the same direction and not conflict with direction of travel.
    Hope this makes sense!

I used to live very close to the Emirates Stadium (home of Arsenal) and it's exactly the same there. Three trains stations within walking distance, but all of them spread out enough from the stadium itself that you are more or less forced to go through the shops to get to it. It's also a super residential area, as is Stratford where London Stadium is, and a lot of people will pay a premium to live in very close proximity to the stadium if there are a big supporter of the team.

29:00 I know you really like your big, level, open parking lots, but stadiums *also* often have large garage facilities nearby for event parking especially in cramped locations next to interchanges. Some of the functional parking garage assets in the workshop would look much better and equally realistic in this type of location imho

Been watching for a long time now, and this is absolutely my favorite build you've ever done. For a vanilla build it is absolutely stunning.
I generally prefer modded builds, but the way you handled the interchange and railroads, the pedestrian and bike paths and the whole stadium/pedestrian district layout really demonstrates how much you have improved since you began.
And I for one appreciate when you go off on some detailing.
Just a really great last few episodes, so Tha k you for sharing.

"Unreasonable and unrealistic pedestrian bridges." Have you seen the pedestrian bridges in Hong Kong? If anything, more cities should have that kind of facilities, separating traffic from people, giving them shade, connecting points of interest, and giving a nice view.

Loved this episode, the little stadium district is so pretty, to me it's very satisfying that you're able to do all of this in the vanilla game. The Verde Beach series is my favorite, seeing that it has passed 100 episodes already reminds me that it will not last forever :( really hope that in the future you make another 100% vanilla city series after Verde Beach ends. I find it much more enjoyable the vanilla cities because I can see the city evolving in a way I can understand better and feel like I could "do" the same (not dismissing the amount of skill needed obviously) even though I use some mods myself in the game.

Have you used the boat museum yet? If not it could add to the stadium area as a tourist area. Also if you're going for a more urban renewal feel there are some loft warehouse buildings on the workshop that have both residential and commercial use that you could add that gives that type of feel to it.

Hey Phil, huge fan of this episode; I thought it was very tastefully done. I agree that at some point it will be nice to have bus service into the area as an extra way to get to the stadium. Looking forward to the remaining development phases to further bring this portion of the city to life.
Side note: If another pro franchise(s) comes to the city, I think a downtown arena redevelopment project may be in order. A lot of times this happens in older sections of inner cities/central business districts that maybe become abandoned. Possibly an area of DTVB that’s now 200+ yrs old would be a spot to look at in order to bring in pro basketball/hockey (or both), plus the venue could be used for major concerts as well. It would benefit from already existing transit services and help revitalize DTVB with a newer major attraction.

I think you should change the wide pedestrian road under the gate to be either bluestone or cobblestone, just so the change between the wide and normal road doesnt seem weird but as a simple change in the pavement. It wouldd also fit the sides of the gate.

Hi CPP! Municipal employee here as well. I feel like any time I've seen districts like this with parking across the street it's always had a tunnel rather than a bridge. While typically tunnels aren't built this close to large bodies of water, I think you could make a case that with the huge quay wall being built there the city spent a decent amount of money to lower the water table in the area to support this construction.

Thank you Phil. Love that you are going to develop around the stadium and build something. I have been to some NFL stadium and hate how the majority is either really far from the center, doesn’t have any kind of commercial and bars around or both. It kills the vibe before and after the game, especially as I’m used to the pre and post game experience of soccer match in Brazil.
That’s something the teams, the NFL and developers should learn from MLB stadium that generally are in downtown.

Love the build! The one thing I can see to improve it would be to exchange the locations of the stadium and the first parking area that you build. The reason being to create double-use parking for both the stadium when there's a game and the pedestrian area. It would just be more convenient for people coming there to park. I think it would be a slightly better fit for the parking area also which needed just a little more space.
