Building the BIGGEST PARK in the City with the Plazas and Promenades DLC | Verde Beach 117
Hello everyone and welcome back to Verde Beach! Ken Sterling has been feeling a great deal of regret for selling his land to Drake Oil. The sale has continued a trend of the Sterling's making dubious choices that have potentially negative consequences for not just Verde Beach, the the entire greater Verde Beach area. In an effort to redeem the family's name, he makes a HUGE donation to the city to finally build the park near downtown. But for this donation, there are strings attached, as there always seem to be...

I took inspiration from a real park. Any ideas which one? If anyone guesses, I'll let you know!
EDIT - Chkldst Gee got it right - Treptower Park in Berlin!
No idea yet, but I love your videos, Philiam. Keep up the good work
@@haydenvaughn Thank you, Hayden!
It's sort of reminiscent of Balboa Park in San Diego!
I'm going for Amsterdamse Bos in Amsterdam. It has a very similar feel, wide open parts, but also heavily forested parks. In addition to that it is also located in between the city and a highway. Or maybe it just reminds me of Amsterdamse Bos since I was there earlier today. Anyway really nice build, glad to see the space finally being used.
It looks like kartavya path In New Delhi, India
I hate that watching your videos fills me with such I inspiration to make a thriving, vibrant and well laid out city, and the moment I start it looks like dump and never gets any better.
Same, plus the limitations of console 🤦🏾♂️
I feel you! I bought the game but got "bored" cause my city looked like trash 😅
Preach! 😂
Same
me: *restarts another city for the 87th time*
I think the park should be called Triumph Park (Park de Triomphe if you will), as it represents the great triumphs of the Stirling Family and the community of Verde Beach. Also, I feel like a pond or small lake would be a good fit for the park.
I was gonna say both these things😂
Also there almost natural ponds in The terrain
@@fabiolimaunb yeah that natural dip by the highway is perfect
Parc de Triomphe as the centerpiece is called Arc de Triomphe
I think this park has the right amount of features, I would maybe add a restroom or two, and maybe incorporate the riding stables somewhere? It would be a great place for the horseriders to go on walks and there's actually space for it.
Definitely needs restrooms. Also transit connections
I like the concept of the park. The area around the monuments is beautiful and needs benches and other seating for people to remain in the space and enjoy it. i could also see some picnic tables and seating at other quiet corners or specific vistas. From an accessibility perspective, having spots for people to rest would be key for making this a place that the elderly, children, and people with mobility constraints could enjoy.
From an ecological perspective, one element that needs to be considered is the vertical stratification of the planted environment. Like how there is a Missing Middle for housing, a lot of landscapers miss out on the missing middle of forest and glenn ecosystems. You have your grass and your upper tree canopies but there are no low shrubs or bushes, no high grasses and no higher shrubs that create a vertical layer between the shrubs and the upper canopy. Since you planted oaks, rhododendron, azalea, camelia, holly, magnolia, would all be useful.
And due to the frequent fire seasons that are common in this area, I'd recommend landscaping with species like the Longleaf pine or sequoia that thrive with low-intensity fires. Please check out the native flora of those landscapes to see all of the amazing animal and plant life that have evolved to live with and be renewed by fire.
Excellent points and I'll add some of these off camera and point it out in the next one! Thank you for the suggestions!!
i think it would be a worthwhile consideration to 1: move the parking spaces closer to the university and expand it so it can acomedate both the park and the university.
and 2: acomadate for concerts and organized meetings in one of the open green spaces.
Great ideas!
25:05 You could add a pedestrian ring road around it, and place the park entrance on those. Then the Goodall Institute will have walking access and the park entrances should function.
I was thinking the same! It could be a good solution
Indeed. Or even a tree lined two lane road
I came on here to say just that!
Yeah! Came here yo say the same, good one :)
Me, my wife, and our kids are all at deaths door this weekend with strep throat and flu. Been solely looking forward to this morning’s episode. Thanks, Phil! Even my daughter came out to cuddle and watch. She is 5 and loves park builds.
Sorry to hear that you're all sick! I hope you all feel better soon and am glad that you enjoyed this one!
hey brad, get well soon.
There are alot of people out there that can't use mods (like those of us on the ps4) so seeing a series fully dedicated to vanilla has been great. Thank you CPP.
I would think that the highway would be pretty loud there, so maybe you could upgrade the highway to have sound barriers along the park.
Probably wouldn’t be approved by the DOT. Probably just add more trees if anything along it.
I like Verde Founder’s Gardens
It also feels like a park that large is missing a large-ish body of water.
Love this build! One suggestion is to maybe dress up the depression on the far side of the park near the highway as an intermittent "lake." You could add some tall grasses on the outermost edge to define the "lake" edge, bridge the park path that crosses it, and maybe put some viewing platforms jutting out into the "lake" bed. The idea behind this is that water will be diverted and pool here during rain and storm events...even though there would be no actual water it because this is a vanilla build.
I was a little surprised you didn't put the monument in the view corridor! If you do that I bet it'd look like the park opens up to the monument from afar
I actually tried that and started over because of how much more terraforming I did to the park. That said, it might have been worth it to do so because I couldn't add a pond to the park (like I would have really liked to)
Really felt that was the natural/organic thing to do with paths and gardens to direct towards the mesa!
🌲🌳🌴 Phil, you've gotten so much better at detailing, even in vanilla, looking good.
The size and neoclassic mall really remind me of the National Arboretum in DC, and the Sterling Zoo and Burning Palms also mirror the National Zoo and Rock Creek Park. Maybe you could name this the Sterling Arboretum to tie that theme together? Love seeing the quantity and sizes of these parks. Living in DC we're blessed with massive urban parks and Verde Beach has that same vibe.
Ohhhh yesssss 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Sometimes I wonder why certain decisions were made for vanilla. Like, idk the park gates never getting updated to be more flexible is something I wonder about. Game devs are busy, and there is always new content just sometimes I wish paradox games would address outdated mechanics. It's really a minor inconvenience tho. Another awesome video! Always happy to see landscaping!
I love the storyline and realism of your builds, you are the reason I bought the game again🌳🌲
I've been watching Verde Beach since episode one. It's been an amazing journey and it's incredible just how much can be accomplished in the base game without mods.
NGL, I kinda love daylight savings time now if it means us non-daylight savings peeps get CPP videos early!
🏝️ I love this park, it is a shame you can’t easily ad a water feature 😢 I would also like to see a zoo asset like the bird enclosure or the monkey palace tucked away somewhere. Kind of like a super special aspect of the park or even a symbiotic extension of the Goodall Institute’s work.
This build will probably be the #1 reason I have an episode or two and the end with mods. This park should have a pond - in fact, if this were a modded build, I would have changed to the story considerably, with the city focusing on the pond to improve the residency of Verde Beach by having a functional stormwater pond in the middle of the park.
One of the things I hope they do differently in CS 2 is that you can see little gravel paths in a forest basically from outer space in the first one
such a cool build! feels very Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn. and what a postcard perfect addition to the look of Verde Beach.
one suggestion: could you do a pedestrian ring road around the Goodall Institute? that might let you place park gates there without throwing off the look or actually putting any buildings on a pedestrian road.
This plaza looks amazing! Just imagine taking a picture of the arch through the round statue, with all the colorful trees around...
In real life, I'm sure this place would be a huge tourist draw, especially so close to downtown and other attractive areas. Imagine visiting Verde Beach and learning about the town's history at the museum then having a nice stroll through the park (and are people allowed in the arch like in the real one? Because the views you'd get of VB from the top would be 🔥🔥) And we could also easily imagine that the park maintenance building is actually a small museum too, about the local flora and fauna maybe?
And I love that you kept most of the park untouched and unlit, great for nature and nature lovers 😊
Love the channel! thank you for all your hard work!
Thank you!
The entrance to the park from the Institute can still be saved! Perhaps try to use a bluestone or cobblestone walkable path and create a decorated entrance that's also functional. The paths would allow the entrances to function and it provides an interesting challenge to try and incorporporate it with the Institute's aethetics. c:
The fence would also be added for security. I imagine a park like this closes at like 10pm for safety and prevent overnight camping.
I hope in the future, Verde Beach will build a youth sports complex with the new stadiums content pack.
I love seeing you role play how the residents/founders move forward as time progresses making changes to help the city.
Plus, the park update is a great addition!!! I suggest we call it “Victory Park” as this addition to the city proves the City can be victorious! Lol
🌲🌴🌳
I would definitely provide park lights along the whole path network because the park will have night tours and people would like to feel safe in there.
That's an excellent point. I do this off camera and mention it in the next one! Thank you so much Udbhav!
@@CityPlannerPlays I would actually do it as a bit of a mix. Along the open fields, gazebos, and climbing frames lights make sense, but the more densely forested areas really would not be ecologically healthy if they were lit up like a city street. Even Central Park has plenty of dark shady areas to dispose of a body… err support the local raccoon population!
I wonder if using the Parklife walking tours would make for a cool POV cinematic around the park.
This reminds me of Houston's Relection Pond in Memorial Hermann Park, near our Zoo. We have a large walking plaza, Japenese Tea Garden, , large amphitheater, and Neo-Classical Stature of Sam Houston.
I forgot to mention there is a rose garden as well. Addtionally, it's right next to Rice Univervisty. I love how we see your creations in our own cities.
Do you think you can make a reflection pond in your next park build?
This reminds me of the English Garden in Munich! A massive park with lots of green space and some neoclassical buildings as well. Great build as always Phil!
Great vid, once again, I'd love to see a pond or a water feature in the park as well, (there are so few of them in the city already) if only so that the fire helicopters don't have to fly halfway the city or further. One place where it could be is in between the rock formation and the maintenance building. Once you have that, you can landscape the heck out of that, with tall grasses alongside it, and maybe even in the water.
Given the history of Verde Beach, you might want to put a fire watchtower in the park
TripAdvisor: Enjoyed my first visit with our old friend Phillip to Verde Beach's latest attraction, The Grand Arch, in a rejuvenated city park. Not only was the central monument & its immediate surrounds as triumphant as advertised, but the wider park was a credit to the city, providing much needed space. There was room for the kids to kick a football as well as plenty of woodland for a game of hide & seek. Phillip liked the Gazebo seating where he quietly observe his surroundings. The only down side was a lack of toilets and cafes by the main entrances. Overall 4.5 out of 5
This park made me think of New Orleans City Park. It’s one of the best urban parks in the country, and would be a good source of inspiration for a park build in CS. It has an amusement park, sculpture and botanical gardens, a stadium and many other athletic facilities, nature preservation areas, one of the best art museums in the south, a children’s museum, riding stables, a golf course, several lagoons for fishing and kayaking, miles of walking and biking trails, a cafe, and dozens of historic buildings and bridges built by the WPA. It’s truly a gem and if you’re ever in NOLA you should definitely check it out!
Finally, i have actually waited for this park since you mentioned it to long ago.
I’m so happy that this park is finally being developed. Great job CPP🎉.
4:31 That took *only* 22 minutes! You are the tree clicking champion. Would have taken me *hours.😂
Thrilled that the nature reserve of old is getting some love. Thanks!
the two monuments facing each other with fountains and greenspace in between gives me some national mall vibes :) on a much smaller scale. great episode!
One of the prettiest features I've seen for a park space in this game before, turned out really well!
I think you should also consider adding other recreational amenities like a few basketball or tennis courts in a corner of the park, or even a baseball diamond, just so there’s more reason for people to visit the park. It would really make it a vibrant addition to the community
This park is beautiful!
I think that path-encircled low field on the edge of the park (between the rock formation and park maintenance building) would be perfect for a pond.
You know, I just randomly saw a new Verde Beach video and said "cool!" and added it to my watch later list. And then, looking around CZcams the thumbnail popped up again in my page and that's when I noticed the shape, and then the text and there hasn't been a video I clicked faster in my life! Can't believe this park is finally done. Congrats Phil. And mad respect for deleting ALL OF THOSE TREES BY HAND!!!!
Fantastic park! The city tour really looked great! Can’t wait for the next Verde Beach. 🌴🌳
I really, really appreciate your attention to detail and symmetry, more so because it’s vanilla and I can’t imagine how many clicks it took.
The Sterlings would be proud of their little indulgence in the park.
You should add a small road around Goodall university as it’ll allow the first responders to go around school as not all parts are accessible (a lot of ambulances show up to university campuses, I see them at least twice a week). This would give better access to the park
I purposefully let myself get a backlog of CPP videos so I can spend a weekend or two just binging them. You never cease to amaze me in the content you make, Phil
11:18. Happy little trees!
I love the new park and especially the founder's plaza. Looks stunning!
I feel like the park could be elevated a lot with a few ponds scattered throughout!
Thanks! It was great to see the design of this park come to life.
was just re-watching recent verde beach builds and I was so glad to see this new one at the perfect time :)
Nice park but it really is a shame the triumph arch isn't in line with the rock formation behind it. It would have been cool if the rock was directly in line of sight when standing in front of the arch, since it is such a defining feature of the park!
I love at the end of his videos before the city tour he says what we have done
Finally caught up to the most current C.P.P. Verde Beach video! thanks for the hours of content that have keep me sane!
Aw your son's 'two thumbs up' is adorable!
REALLY REALLY awesome build. That pink and blue ombre sunset over the Arc with the pastel purple trees and flowers *chef's kiss* 👌 beautiful. Maybe the name could be a nod to that view? Something like Pastel Park?
would be nice to have some reforestation to counter the tree los, maybe some new inner city lungs? or a wildlife overpass? great build as always, nice to see Verde Beach again !
Some benches, trashcans and bathrooms also would be great!
I love the new park. So glad to see it come together after all this time. 🌴🌴🌴
You should also put some benches around the main part of the park. So people can also sit down relax and maybe watch one of your videos ❤️
So glad you noticed the terrain on the parking lots. It was killing me waiting to see if you noticed 😂
The park is amazing! Tho it could use at least one paved connection to the central monument for mobility access
Absolutely gorgeous build. Love that park.
For jumping power in a park, I really like either gazebos (if there's water) or the nature reserve viewing platforms (if there isn't). Look nicer than the earthquake sensors and help the park entertainment value out for levelling purposes.
this is my favorite channel on the platform, hands down. Love your stuff!
Watching you build the monument park was such a vibe
That low area in the park, I think, would be a great place for a natural lake. It's at the bottom of a mountain, so all the runoff is going to want to pool there. And with all the storms California's been getting recently, a lake to hold some of that mountain runoff will help prevent the city from flooding.
Verde Beach is a legend.. didn't watch all of it, close no, but every of it gives so much inspiration and desire to felt back in game.. Can't wait CS II now, deadly desirable as soon as it can be ☺
WOW The tree brush is soo useful that I've forgotten is not in Vanilla
Potential name “Verde Memorial Gardens”. After the mistakes of his family Stirling wanted to give back to verde beach, and a memorial garden for its many great citizens and victims of its many natural disasters was his idea. A large natural area to relax and connect with nature was his way of making up for the oil pollution created by the family. The signature arch is embossed with memorials to hundreds of citizens so families can visit for generations to come to remember them
nothing brightens my day like a new verde beach episode
nothing gets me exited like a CPP video, cant wait to see what you conjure up in CS2
Both Prague and Washington DC have very massive greens spaces like that near their centers, and while there is no Arc de Triump, we do have a mini Eiffel Tower in Prague :)
Best park build yet. Your landscaping restraint led to ample open areas that make this feel so much more real. Fantastic!
I thought you had forgotten about the nature reserve/park, I'm glad I was wrong!
Great video as always, CPP!
I think you should add a paved circuit in the park so that people that have mobility issues can enjoy some of the dense tree areas as well. My son is in a wheelchair, and I always appreciate it when large green spaces have some paved paths for us to use. Additionally there should be an entrance with a paved path leading to them. It doesn't need to be the whole park, just something more than the central plaza.
🌲🌲🌲
I would call it Retiro Park; I got vibes off it like Parque del Buen Retiro, literally "Good Rest Park," in Madrid; originally a place for royals to seclude themselves on the outside of the city, it gradually became the city's central, public park and gardens.
It could use a water feature of some sort though, I think.
Great looking park! Suggestions for additions would be some play equipment and some more natural styled garden spaces.
This is the main thing of the day, you Verde Beach videos makes me so calm so yes. Love you videos realy
It’s obviously not a one-for-one, but this reminds me a lot of Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales, Florida! A sprawling park with trails, green space, forested areas, a museum, and a gorgeous architectural centerpiece that harkens to a time long past (even at the time it was built).
I would suggest adding a gift shop and maybe even a botanical garden! You could name it something like Sterling Arch Gardens or Verde Arch Gardens.
Great vid! And so many great comments and suggestions. I only had one thought left to add. You should look at changing the section of the ring road in front of the maintenance building so the workers don't have to drive all the way around to get back.
I feel like the sort of main ring of the park should have lit paths. I can see the open green space around the monument center being used for events like festival of lights or harvest festivals and having the infrastructure there (including a bathroom facility) would be a massive win.
Please add a shallow water basin in the vast empty space! It would look amazing with the grasses and shrubs!
I believe the park should have more lighting throughout it. The closer you get to the main part of the park should have more lights but as you venture away there should slowly be less and less lights. If that makes sense. Love your builds!
I appreciate the stream recap. For some reason, I can never see streams on youtube higher than 144p and that's watching it afterward, not live. So the streams are essentially unwatchable and having a little explanation of new things out of nowhere (at least for me) is nice.
I think that the park should be called Founders Park. It would be cool if the monument had all the names of the founders of Verede Beach but your in vanilla. I love your videos and I am equally excited for CS 2!
Weirdly emotional seeing this space being developed. I was here oh so long ago when the space was dedicated!
with the depression area at 17:19 you could make that into a small lake of sorts. it would also make it an even bigger reason to go there as well.
also for the walls behind the mesa and by the highway you could use rocks instead of weeds or a mixture of both to still keep that nature feel.
The low land area in the park would be a great spot for a pond/water feature. Have some tall grass around the outside and Lilly pads in the middle. Love all the videos you make, been watching from bluffside crossing started and go buck's!
I looked at my screen and just said "Stunning" out loud. Absolutely love the geometric grand park area. You should do a European district to join onto it.
The monument park needs benches, lots of them!
Also, perhaps there was survey sent out to citizens of verde beach on a bunch of names, and there were a few on there like Monument Park, Memorial Park, Legacy Park, Arch Park, founders park, etc. And the residents went with Legacy Park - as a way to not only memorialize the city founders but as a way to honor the hard work and commitment to the community that all members of the community have shown over the last however many hundred years or so as the city gets built and grows and evolves.
Always waiting for another episode of Verde Beach
I feel like we’ve all waited about 100 years for this one 😅 soo worth the wait! great build phil!
A water feature (lake/pond) in the depression could be a good addition. Even just a marshy area with some reeds would look cool
🎉 I’ve been waiting 100 years for this episode 😂
I think there's great potential for some kind of pond in the right-hand area of the park near the maintenance building. Smaller hotspots with food vendors and stuff could be cool as well.
🌳 I loved this video. It was comforting!
I thought you would make a little pond where that dip in the terrain was but not every park needs a water feature.
