  • How Building the Greenest Neighborhood Ever Nearly Ended the City! | Verde Beach 123
While having dinner at the Chirbro Buffet, Isabella Myrtle realizes what a HUGE opportunity she and Raul are missing out on by ignoring the beach. At that dinner, she sketches an idea for a terraced neighborhood that would be the greenest neighborhood in the County.
In today’s episode, we’re going to build this neighborhood, which will be pedestrian friendly, green, and upscale. However, while building the neighborhood, Cities Skylines is going to get in our way and we’ll have to work around a few significant issues to finish the build.

Around the 50:57 a bit of replacement audio is missing - very sorry, not sure what happened! We used 300 nodes in this episode, so at this rate we'd have 20 episodes left in us. We'll see what happens! I don't think we'll actually have 20 (for CS:2 reasons and my love of using nodes).

    • @Dilligff
      @Dilligff Před 10 měsíci +5

@@DavidCiani Never understood why so many CS builders adhere so strongly to the water lines under the roads as the game doesn't really take the real world issues of why its done in real life into account. I started off laying pipework under every street but quickly found it got too distracting when adding underground metros later and preferred a minimalist approach anyways. Now I just do long linear stretches spaced just enough for the edge of coverage to either touch or slightly overlap and cross them where there is a major street. It reduces the number of required nodes by lots and it looks a lot cleaner.

I think having the trolleybus on the outside would be a cool thing to do down there all by itself. Just take a trip around the area and see the water on the bus. I do that with the skyliner at Disney World. Between Epcot and Hollywood Studios, we take the skyliner. Takes about 20 minutes and we use it as an extra "ride" at the parks. And if it's on the outside, you would see the water and make the trip that much longer.

I usually preferred cwc and nicolet bay because your landscaping used to be much more free-flowing with mods than without - in the absense of game limitations and all. But lately, and especially with this episode, you've really demonstrated your improved ability to bend the game to your will and do things that I used to think were impossible in vanilla. Its absolutely phenominal watching you craft these builds, and somehow become even better at the game, when I thought you reached the ceiling of what was possible by game limitations. Also I'd imagine there's a lot more use you could get on each side of the built out landmass rather than ending abruptly in a perfect square shape. Kinda thought some of the roads parallel to the coast should curve back up to connect to the main ring road personally.

I was lucky enough to come to the channel before Verde Beach started. I loved the game but was a bit frustrated with it and had hit a plateau, especially since I like open play games, but with potential for narrative. This series brought the game to life for me. I got back into it, learned how to enjoy the game from the very first road all the way through to 'late game' and let me find a balance with advanced play - I like to preserve the gameplay challenges over heavily modding and CPP showed me how to run a QOL mod build. So many memories.

This pedestrian area looks SO awesome! You should try another one of these in the future, but on water. Instead of having the retaining walls separating the houses and layers, you could have canals and waterways.

Really nice video. Love the detailing a lot !!!
One realistic point though, getting foundation for that tall buildings right by the sea where the ground shifts a lot is quite unimaginable. I can foresee few 3-4 storey blocks, but these are quite tall.

Well I'm finally caught up, didn't think I'd enjoy the Verde Beach series because of the lack of mods but I really did. After going back to Clearwater County yesterday there was a little part of my brain like "too many mods" lol. Excellent work planner.

Started going through the series about a 2 months ago and finally caught up. Amazing content and insights into the principles of city planning. You had me hooked a while ago, but wanted to get caught up on the series before subscribing. I remember you mentioned starting a series based on Mackinac Island a while ago, which is gonna be the next one I'll be watching. That place has a special place in my heart (3 summers of work&travel spent there, hands down the best experience I've had). If you're still doing city reviews, I'd be interested to hear what your thoughts are on Bucharest, Romania (city center demolished by the communist regime to rebuild based on central planning around the second largest admin building in the world, after the Pentagon), as well as Timisoara, Romania (my home city, reorganized by the austro-hungarian empire a few hundred years ago). Looking forward to more content! Cheers!

Late to this video and late to comment, but as far as Verde Beach goes, this might be my favorite build in the city. Absolutely beautiful neighborhood that I'd love to live in. Verde Beach was my personal favorite of all your cities, partly because of the added vanilla restriction can force you to be extra creative tackling the challenges of base game mechanics. It's going to be sad to see it go, but CS2 opens new doors. Thank you Phil for the series.
Edit: Oh yeah. I was so caught up in being sentimental I forgot to ask you to switch out the Organic/Local produce commercial for something else. There's too much EV charging/parking for a non-vehicle neighborhood!

Verde Beach is almost built, but the children are still playing right next to the deep part of the lake, with no fence, in the park you built a while ago :O Please look at it, I hope you're going to fix it every time you do Verde :)

Hey CPP, its been a great journey watching episodes of Verde Beach (though I have been skipping around a bit) I am not sure if you have another series already in mind to work on but maybe a sudo mini series as an interim could be building real life places and seeing where improvements can be made and maybe how you would change the city design (considering you are a city planner)

I'm a tad annoyed about the highrise buildings by the sea. Because if I lived in the lowrise buildings I would be pissed that all the highrise buildings block my sea view. Reversing the order would give all of them seaside view. But then again, I guess this is more realistic too
But amazing job. The landscaping is amazing. So beautiful

This video reminded me about when I went with my parents to some vacation spots when I was younger.
These were not just clusters of hotels and bars. They were complete towns, with residential areas, city services, grocery stores etc.
They still very much gave me the feeling that everything had been built at the same time, by the same contractors/developers. All the buildings had the same general proportions, the same colour schemes, the same style of decorations.
I've come to understand that the reason they looked like that is very likely that this is exactly what happened. Somebody invested a lot of money in developing a fully formed tourist town, and building it very quickly. Kind of staggering, when you think about it.

Phil I've been thinking about your conservation college and the park. I think, maybe in a nodded game, if you're to conservation, and sustainablility make sure you include ecology restoration (falls under sustainability). You could find out what native plants are in the area you're creating and designate land for a greenhouse (seed increase garden) and restoration.
I work for EWU Palouse prairie restoration and part of my job is growing rows of native Palouse prairie plants for seed collection, as well as going out to the prairie and planting plugs. It'd be a cool story for your city and it'd look cool too. Take a look at some restoration projects and the native lands they work on so you can see what things should look like and go from there.
