What's super crazy is that if you watch Brie Larson's earlier roles, she was really good. 21 Jump Street, Scott Pilgrim, Don John, etc. She was charming and charismatic. It makes a lot of sense why she became a star. But then it's like right after Room (2015), she adopted this super flat and boring monotone. It's just a big nosedive and it makes no sense.

In Marvel mythology, Captain Marvel is the legacy of Mar-vell.
Carol was his girlfriend and got her powers straight from him, becoming Ms Marvel.
Monica Rambeau had nothing to do with him, and was named CM only for retaining copyright on the name.
      Carol was the right choice.

    • @henleytarr
      @henleytarr Před rokem +2

My point is that Monica was forcibly named CM, due to the need to retain copyright on the CM title.
In addition, Carol was created in 1968 and Monica in 1982.
Carol is the true heir to Mar-Vell and the title of CM.

Feminism and activism is just a way to spew disgusting toxic hatred at certain groups and for it to be deemed acceptable . How many times must we listen to obnoxious , unlikable and spiteful women go on and on and on about how much they hate men and never get challenged or held accountable? Even when the interviewer is male they don't even say anything . Theres lots of footage of well known female celebrities doing this and Its becoming more and more common for women to say it in real life directly to men as well. It gets laughed off mostly and they're given a free pass just because they're women and it just encourages and emboldens these toxic people even more

She (either by choice or because of her parents) functionally avoided the zaniness that consumed her sisters' lives by going off to Europe to train/learn acting for quite a few years. She also had/has a great agent/team that picked far more interesting roles pre-MCU, which established her credibility in a much more apparent/mature way.

As a South African who is of mixed heritage and who grew up under apartheid, I know all about experiencing racism but I'm so tired of identity politics and people thinking racism only comes from white people. All people can be racist. Why is society trying to convince me that only black people have the monopoly on racism? There is racism, colorism and prejudice in every race (the human race). I say this as someone who is of German, African and Dutch heritage. I'm a human being and judge and want to be judged on the content of my character. Society needs to wake up and stop this madness, it's only creating more division amonst us in my opinion. Hollywood forcing identity politics down our throats is counter-productive in my opinion. A big part of the problem is that Hollywood will talk about diversity & how important it is, yet they will introduce it in the most toxic, divisive & even laziest ways that they can. Often also deciding that past prejudices against certain groups should be flipped & now be against other groups. Thinking that this makes them look good. In reality, it just makes them look petty. They are unintentionally alienating the general public by doing these types of things. It's the people that are put in charge of introducing diversity that are the problem. Not diversity itself.

They are scientific, technological, industrial, financial, economic and cultural powerhouses.
Or just look what China did in the last 20 years...
      AMAZING !
Similar with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar... now they are financial and economic powerhouses with state of art facilities and infrastructure thanks to the efficient and smart management of petroleum and natural gas.
Or look at Uruguay, Panama, Chile and Costa Rica how they use and manage efficiently and smartly their resources creating stable and prosperous societies.
Or look at Morocco, whose aboriginal ethnicity or population are Amazighen or Berber... they are thriving.
In CONTRAST we have Haiti, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Liberia, Congo, etc...
Furthermore, look WHOM are in charge in Baltimore, New York, Chicago and Detroit...
      Can you see the pattern?

Because gender studies graduates manage to get jobs in HR and then gatekeep those working at big studios...
Because middle management wants woke bucks from Larry Fink and BlackRock...

A lot of times, they could use tricky camera work to make the stunts safer, but the stunt still had to happen and someone needed to do it.

She was pretty good “short term 12 “ too as well as in 21 jump streets where she had a good comedic timing . The people running the MCU have inexplicably followed Marvel Comics' lead in substituting the popular characters that audiences could and did connect with, for unlikeable, unrelatable Mary Sues like Carol Danvers, Jessica Walters, and Riri Williams. This is really astonishing to me, because when Marvel Comics did that, their sales went into the toilet at the same time Marvel Studios was making money hand over fist. But rather than the comics looking at the success the movies were having and the success they themselves were _not,_ and then getting back to telling great stories about relatable characters people loved, it went the other way round. _Marvel Studios has chosen to follow the money-losing comics division's example,_ get woke, and switch out its popular characters for a bunch of Mary Sue diversity replacements. She has lost friends and loved ones, struggled with alcoholism, struggled with an inferiority complex brought on by being raised by a single parent, identity disorders caused by her powers that left her blacking out and waking up back home without memories of her actions. Was callously tossed into the war between the Kree Empire and the Skrulls. Fought a Brood infestation (which is a nightmare in itself), had her powers and mind torn from her by Rogue, her soul trapped in the back of Rogue's subconscious for years while she used her powers, all while her original body withered in a hospital bed in a coma. Alone. When she finally awoke, she had to rebuild herself from the ground up. THAT's a hero!

Honestly it all comes down to the writing and directing and unfortunately Captain Marvel and the sequel the Marvels have the worst writers & directors who have NO past history of writing/directing action/adventure & sci-fi.
Anyone else find it weird that they never actually hire comic book writers to write the stories of their movies and not even as consultants.

I can not watch anything Brie Larson is in. I detest her attitude & can't separate it from her acting. Great video you really nailed this.

Great commentary. This sums up the reason I and my family and friends rarely go to the movies anymore and we used to go most weekends. It’s hard to stomach the actors on screen when they can be so obnoxious off screen.

They can have all the fame and recognition... but I want the money, especially my money, to go towards the VFX and props teams because their work is significantly more difficult than looking pretty and playing pretend on screen. Shame the millions of dollars arent given to the people who actually has a difficult job.

In India, we've got our own clones of Brie who aren't even that successful: Swara Bhaskar, Sonam Kapoor, Tapsee Pannu and Radhika Apte.

When Shaka Demus sang "a pretty face and bad character..." I'm sure he wasn't thinking of Bree. Sadly, this is where entertainment is at.

If you want modern positive female characters who are powerful WITHOUT the need to bring down the men a few pegs, then I can’t recommend The Expanse enough. Chock full of amazing women and equally, the men. Fantastic.
Would make a great video of comparisons of scenes to this crap.

The difference between well written characters who happen to men / women / etc and badly written characters whose entire character trait is where they keep their reproductive organs.

I also think that other actresses in the MCU have faced bigger issues than Bree. Scarlett Johansson comes to mind.
