  • From being labeled as a racist, sexist, to bigoted, Jordan Peterson has been called every name in the book. But if you listen to him, he seems none of those labels. In fact, he seems like a reasonable, intelligent, and measured man. And you can bet that the radical left REALLY hates that!
    In this video, I dive into some of the reasons that the Radical Left hates Jordan Peterson.

      Do you have evidence to support your claim here? The clips are of liberals, not radical leftists arguing with Peterson, and the hit pieces written on him have been in liberal, IE center left outlets like The Atlantic, New Yorker, Globe and Mail, and my liberal feminists. Meanwhile he has many popular hateful rants against radical leftists (marxists, libertarian socialists, etc) on video, but they only ever invited him on their shows or to debate them, he backed out or refused except in one case where he debated in a friendly exchange, radical leftist Slavoj Zizek.

    I found out about JP because people around me kept talking about how he is a horrible sexist bigot and only appeals to misogynist men. So, in order to find out if that was true, I started watching every video I could possibly find of him. It's been two years now and I have yet to find a single clip of him saying anything bigoted.

      Yep and even when they quote him they typically do so out of context. They will look at the time he asked why women wear makeup in the workplace and suggest it's a sexist question and yet if you listen to the interview he is genuinely trying to have a back to back discussion with the host as to the reason people dress the way they do when around the opposite sex. The greatest flaw JP has is assuming the individual's he is talking to are good faith and honest individuals.

      This is SO HUGE. I have been in these spaces and, sure, blame society bc a lot of the times it deserves it.
      But. Then. What.
      We have to use our INDIVIDUAL strengths to actualize the change. If we merely demand it, how are we fighting it or changing it, or even protecting ourselves in the midst of it?

    • @marsukarhu9477
      @marsukarhu9477 Před 2 lety +10

      Well, it depends on what the problem is. Often there's a systemic problem and internalizing isn't possible or helps no-one. Changing (or trying to change) the system helps also those who may be unable to fight for their own cause because of age, mental health, abuse, poverty etc.

    • @Sidera17
      @Sidera17 Před 2 lety +4

      @@marsukarhu9477 I agree fully. I think where I’ve seen the praxis get muddled is when the people demand the system be changed but fail to act because the very principles that were created to call the system out (not arguing that the system may be screwed up) suddenly come into conflict with implementing an action against the system because then those calling for change would have to violate the principles. I’ve never figured out how to solve this issue. Also, the Nirvana fallacy is particularly pernicious.

    • @peoswriter1
      @peoswriter1 Před 2 lety +11

      @@marsukarhu9477 There very well may be a systemic problem, but that's probably why the OP wrote "overemphasis". If you're overemphasizing, you're emphasizing too much -- beyond the point of practicality. There may be a problem, but it's blown out of proportion, or it's being attacked to deflect attention away from more important problems. Like attacking one side for being "oppressive" while openly using all of the same underhanded tactics, biases, hate, and even violence that you accuse them of. Or, say, like attacking everybody who disagrees with you as a beta-male, androgynous snowflake (and the like) because you oppose how they are labelling people as groups instead of individuals, when you're just as ready to dismiss them collectively by the group you just lumped them in with.
      There may be something bad happening, but if we're unwilling to deal with ourselves critically, we're being the worst kind of hypocrites. I say we, because both sides of every issue demonstrate some level of this. Using a smaller crime to defend a larger crime is monstrous. It creates bigger and worse problems while often failing to solve the smaller ones. It punishes growth and applauds blindness and immaturity. It's horribly destructive, so I'm not only very pleased the Peterson isn't having any of it, but very pleased that people are actually listening. I hope more and more do.

      I think your looking at this wrong. Yes, Jordan Peterson has some good opinions. He serves as a father figure for a lot of young boys and try’s to teach them about discipline and the value of hard work. That’s all great.
      What is not great are his bigoted and hateful opinions. He lied about Canada’s bill C-16 and said they would lock you up if you call a trans person the wrong pronoun. That is false and breeds anti trans hate. He believes in forced monogamy for the sake of giving men access to women. He believes women who wear makeup are asking to be physically harassed and it is their fault for wearing makeup and temping men. He recently began to say climate change and the science used to determine it are wrong and that climate change might not be so bad.
      With all of this in mind, do you believe he should still have a platform? I 100% agree with your sentiment that we as a society shouldn’t de-platform people we disagree with. But if someone is insinuating hateful rhetoric like ‘women who wear makeup are asking for it’, then that goes beyond a simple disagreement. If we as a society allow people of power and influence to indoctrinate the minds of people with hateful opinions like the ones of Jordan Peterson, then we will have a lot more hateful and bigoted people. Not to mention, most of the things the left ‘disagrees’ with him on are things he is blatantly wrong or lying about.

For our standards he sounds hysterical and over the top, then he was entertaining and "daring". I never understood how people could be tricked into national socialism, today I think I have a better understanding how they did it. They did the same as they do now, framing narrative, not reporting the whole situation, fighting adverse opinion. Peterson would rather he told us an uncomfortable truth, instead of comforting us with lies because, in the long run, it is better for us. Also, tribalism has always led to societal issues throughout history, as it erodes individual identity, and anyone outside of the group identity is dehumanised - the Nazi party being one of the most obvious examples of this in the past 100 years.

As for his lectures, he has referred to the 3rd reich as the 4th - a common neo nazi reference to the continuation of the original nazism which ended in 1945 - , asking “why would you assume hitler wanted to win?”, acting as if Jewish people and other “undesirables” weren’t forced to work, etc. He has also claimed that nazi Germany was somehow an atheistic state, even though atheists were killed for not believing in any deity or deities. So no, his lectures aren’t any better. He also thinks Jews are over represented in the media - a common nazi conspiracy - and this is why they perform better in IQ tests, even though 1. IQ is garbage as a measure and 2. It was created to justify racism, by racists. He has praised Milo Yiannopoulos (even after his pro-pedophilia comments came out, though even before then, he was still far-right cunt, so there aren’t any excuses either way), appeared on Stefan Molyneux’s show - a known far right deplorable piece of shit, race scientist, etc. who has been banned from all mainstream platforms due to the aforementioned - AND has agreed with him on certain matters such as IQ differences between the races - a favourite talking point of the far-right to justify things like racial segregation. He has also been on Lauren Southern’s show, likewise a far right POS who, for example, attempted to stop refugee ships from entering Europe. He has appeared on Ben Shapiro and Stephen Crowder’s shows multiple times, both of which having had Gavin McInnes - leader of the far-right paramilitary group The Proud Boys - on their shows. He also promotes the far-right, extremely antisemitic “cultural Marxism” conspiracy theory on numerous occasions, and believes that women wear makeup purely for sexual-purposes - an entirely false statement - and as such, they should not complain if they are sexually harassed while wearing make up. The only “good” he is doing is promoting far-right and conservative ideas - everyone who disagrees with a conservative is a Marxist, certain college courses should be banned, women are manipulative beings whose only purpose is to engage in sexual acts and to be a maid, etc. This is good for turning normies into misogynistic fascists, and nothing else. Even when he isn’t being a fascist piece of shit, his self-help advice is extremely banal grifting purely intended to make himself wealthier; and to radicalise more people because he often interpolated basic advice with conservative ideas and such. All of the evidence points to Peterson’s being on the far-right - this is simply how it is. I - and all of the others - who rightfully condemn him as a member of the far-right have looked at all of the evidence against him and have thus quite easily determined that he is, in fact, a member of the far-right. I was miserable, heavily overweight, feeling trapped in a dead-end job and felt like I was stuck in life and it seemed like it would never get better before I found him and his work(which I found because of the endless vitriol that has been unfairly and incessantly heaped on him). But I'm most impressed by his ability to stop, take a moment and come back with the perfect words in response. Most of us think of the correct response 5 minutes after the other party left the room. Which is why most people use E-Mail instead of a phone call. Having a long pregnant pause on the phone can expose a shortcoming. They hate him because he advocates the idea that biology has some role in the construction of the individual, which contradicts the post-modern belief that everything is socially constructed, including the individual. Woke critical theorists need to hold to the premise that everything that defines the individual (beliefs, biases, perceptions of truth, etc.) is defined by the social class (race, sex, "gender", etc.) one pertains to. This allows them to push the narrative that all individuals in the same group think the same way, and in certain social classes that have more power the members of these classes are conditioned into subconsciously perpetuating systems that keep those classes in power and keep other groups oppressed. For example, they would argue, all men are conditioned by society into perpetuating misogynist systems of employment that deny women high-paying jobs and that's why there is a pay gap. Their solution is to engineer society so that traditionally "oppressed" groups are given more power and opportunities. But when Peterson notes that there are biological differences between men and women that may determine job preference and thus salary, and when he pushes for the sanctity of the individual over the group, he is standing in the way of their agenda. Hence, why they hate him.

      Maybe I need to read up on this more, and I would like to hear your opinion on it, but I've always been of the impression that the "biological" argument is essentially what you described as the "socially constructed" argument, in terms of a group being the same and thinking alike (and pushing that narrative). Biological psychology in general makes me feel like people can be excused from questionable behaviour or determined to fit a behaviour because of some loose relation to what cavemen used to do (nurturing, sexual drive, reproduction, alfa/beta mentality). Beyond that, putting people into boxes based on biology might encourage that sort of "boys will be boys" attitude that drives a social wedge between how people are treated. I don't disagree with the premise of biology impacting behaviour, but the message that sends in terms of how people are "supposed" to behave is what I have a problem with. Ideas like sex meaning reproduction, women being more empathetic and nurturing, "boys don't cry" and men have to be physically strong and providers, differing degrees of anger, pain, emotional spectrum and intelligence having something to do with sex/gender, all this can be bad news for any women, men, lgbtq+ persons that don't neatly fit in a category. My worry therefore is pushing the "biology" argument (without the 100 asterisks needed) to laypeople looking for a simple world view of behaviour, may cause a lot of prejudice, stereotypes and discrimination. Thoughts?

      It is always good to hear, that there are other people with similar situations and similar life experience s. All in all everybody needs to overcome the same things and the ones, who have an extra hard fate, those we all should help. I think that is one reason why people inicially think communism or marxism is such a good idea, people would like to help other people. It just turned out so tragic every time they tried to do it in reality.
      On a small level ~250 people can achieve wonderful things if they share property together, we had a sect 40 years ago, who achieved to buy islands in the caribean, after the sect guru was put in prison for supression the other men in the sect and molesting and raping the women and children in the sect, the property was sold by the court. Every sect member got a substancial sum, they could live from the income the money made them (!). Of course the whole ordeal was so horrible that nobody would want the money with the experience.
      I just think that traditional "villages" 250-300 people could work together extremely successfully if they put their minds to it and if they do not follow strange cultish structures. The same is reported from commune living in kibbuz, they are really successful moneywise and work wise. On a bigger level communes fail. Corruption seems to be part of the human condition.
      That is my personal take on it. Democracy is really not ideal (and they knew it 200 years ago, lots of interesting literature about it) still today the only way I know to shuffle through the challenges.
      I do not want dictatorship, do not want oligarchy, do not want "royal monarchy" and unfortunately commune system has failed over and over.
