1995 would be the start of a new era of Bond films which I refer to as 'The Brosnan Age'. Co-starring Judi Dench, Sean Bean, Izabella Scorupco, Famke Janssen, Alan Cumming, Robbie Coltran, Joe Don Baker and Desmond Llewelyn. I take a look at the debut of Pierce Brosnan as James Bond 007 in GoldenEye. This is Part Two.
I made this project back in 2011. Since then I've had issues with it being taken down. This is somewhat annoying and it's been absent from my channel for a long time. So I've attempted to do some re-editing and tweaking to it with the hopes that maybe it will be allowed to stay up and available to watch here - at least for awhile.

Dalton returning as Bond and Sir Anthony Hopkins playing his mentor turned nemesis(as was originally scripted) would've been an even better classic.

Having read the novels and grown up with the Roger Moore Bond, I was blown away by the Timothy Dalton portrayal of the character. He was the quintessential book Bond, playing the character to a T, "by the book." It was a completely different take on the character from previous Bonds, yet totally familiar to anyone who had read the novels, which made it endearing. I had looked forward to seeing him in many more movies and was disappointed that he was limited to only two movies.

I never really understood the ballyhoo about Brosnan. He is a good actor, but the scripts were lackluster, the action was subpar, the product placement was just over the top, the villains were boring.... the only thing Brosnan brought to the table was that he looked the part, he was really good at marketing the films and he had that certain british snobishness that was required for that role in the 90s. I grew up watching Timothy Dalton and he still is my favourite Bond. Brosnan seemed more like a spkesperson for luxury products, not like a government assassin. Golden Eye was fine for its time, but the other films were abysmal....

This reflects my thoughts. I grew up playing the game, was my intro to the Bond franchise. I loved the film when I grabbed it from Blockbuster at the age of 10, but since? I'd watched the other actors and their films more, just cus of TV and whatever DVDs I got for birthdays. Still, I always hungered for Brosnan, but catching em on and off on TV I didn't feel that spark.

I think the Q scene in Goldeneye they could have improved upon. With the exception of the pen grenade, there are no real establishing shots of the gadgets that Bond is given, so much so that when I first saw Bond whip out his grappling hook belt I had forgotten he even had it. What they could have done in moments when Desmond Llewelyn is looking offscreen at his cue cards, they could have cut to a closeup of his hands fiddling with the grappling hook belt.

Great observations as usual! I always look forward to your take on this roller coaster of a series.

Brosnan was a safe pair of hands something the franchise needed at that time when they no longer had the monopoly on lone action heroes. It will be interesting to see where the series goes with the next Bond actor and will the tone of the movies change to suit the new Bond. Maybe the producers could surprise us by setting the new movies in the 1960's which would allow the new actor and movies to be less politically correct than they have in Craig's run.

Given the trailers of NTDT, I'm afraid Daniel Craig's Bond is going to top Brosnan's regarding fully automatic rifle shooting.

Brosnan + assault rifle = RamBond!

It's a FINE addition to the Bond series. Brosnan comes in 3rd behind Craig & Connery. Disagree with vid author's distinct disdain, but to each, his own!( ps: Tomorrow the World Ends).

I think they used so many automatic rifles in this Goldeneye. Because they knew they had a video game to sell.

Goldeneye is still popular last time I found it in the wild it was selling for around $20 dollars and this was only couple years ago. I am a full time online reseller.
