Wow, thank you so much for introducing me to this amazing piece of software - truly a lifechanger. I have never seen this application mentioned anywhere other than this video, so thank you so much :) as I have been looking for a truly free software like this for a long time. One thing to note is the developer(s) have released a new application that directly routes the DSLR to a virtual capture device, which is amazing since it requires much less processing and hacks to get set up. Again, I truly thank you so much for making this video and I hope you spread the word about more lesser known softwares in the future! Good luck!

A warning to Nikon users; unfortunately, it seems that the Live View output of most Nikon cameras is limited to 640x480 pixels, making these cameras a poor option as a live streaming work-around.
Also, Sparkocam does not support most D3000 series cameras so if you were planning to try that software next you may be better off with a completely different camera or investing in a proper HDMI capture device.

For anyone having issues with the camera being recognized as a storage device, most all DSLR cameras use the mini HDMI port. Look into getting a capture card and using the HDMI port instead of the USB port. Most of the time, the USB only works for file transfer.

I have an old Sony TRV525 Digital 8 I am using as a webcam with my Mac Pro 5,1 and it hasn't really cost me anything except a couple hours of experimentation. The old Sony which was once at the cutting edge of technology when I got it years ago, has what Sony calls an "i-link" port which Sony labels a DV in/out that is really a small port that takes the end of an i-link cable which is really only a Firewire 400 cable with a small 4 pin plug at one end and the usual rounded 6 pin 400 Firewire plug at the other, cost about $10 Amazon or elsewhere. It wasn't known as Firewire at the time, but IEEE1394. I attached that to the Sony port, and since the Mac Pro 2010 has Firewire 800 ports I took an old adapter I had (costs about $8 on Amazon) that changes a 400 to an 800 plug on the front of the Mac Pro (the two 400 ports are beneath the USB ports on the front of the chassis). A little bit of trial and error but Zoom recognized the vintage camcorder like an old friend. I am going to have to set up a mike because I haven't figured out audio yet, but I do have an old plastic preamp and mike somewhere just in case. Anyway, the camcorder is auto focus and has some bells and whistles, but must be set back from the monitor as I fill the screen and you will too.

you have to right click the camera source, then click properties, the click deactivate then you can use the webcam for zoom. then reactivate in obs when you're done
But if you want to use zoom AND obs at the same time and use the same camera, then you have to download and install an obs plugin called virtualcam, then set the webcam in zoom as virtualcam
(obs must be open to use camera in zoom if you're doing it this way)

Edit: I managed to use my DSLR (NIKON D5300) as a webcam. However, my image on my monitor is pretty laggy ( as if it has very very low FPS). And since I am planing to use this as a webcam for twitch streaming, it's not really satisfactory. Is there anything I can do to get a smoother image?

Not any camera. Nikon Coolpix series cameras that do have an HDMI output apparently lack the live video transmission software that other Nikon cameras have, so they cannot be used as a webcam. Only what is already recorded and saved in the SDHC memory card can be viewed over the HDMI connection.

Great software! Thanks! I used digiCamControl Virtual Webcam to link my Canon 5D MKIII to StreamElements OBS.Live and livestream to Facebook.
Worked seamlessly. USB to miniUSB cable is needed
    Some specific comments are:
camera - worked - detected a Canon EOS 5D Mark III
aperture - worked in Av mode.
shutter speed - did not work in Manual and Tv mode
    ISO - worked
Metering mode - only tried the Evaluative metering mode
white balance - worked - but I leave in auto
    exposure compensation - worked
focus mode - did not change the focus mode of the camera
focus button - works in autofocus or manual focus mode on the camera.
I am only getting about 18 fps whereas I run my webcam at 30 fps. OBS seemed to be OK however.
I like the battery indicator on the digiCamControl display
The camera does get warm so I might shade it if I am outside on a hot day in the sun.
