Hey friends! You can check out part 2 of this video here czcams.com/video/Can-N78ptPI/video.html
Thanks for checking out the video! I have a few things to mention that I did not mention in the video that might help you out if you're having any issues getting your camera to work as a webcam. ⬇️⬇️⬇️
ZOOM
- Make sure that you have updated zoom to at least 5.1. If you don't, then Cam Twist will not appear in the video settings.
CAM TWIST
- If your image is looking low resolution go into the Cam Twist preferences and play around with the FPS and resolution.
- A good starting point is 30FPS and 1280 x 720. You might think 720 is low quality, but it looks incredible in comparison to a normal webcam.
YOUR SONY CAMERA
- Make sure that your camera is in Movie mode on the top dial.
- From what viewers have said, THIS METHOD does not seem to work with the a6000 at the moment. I do not personally own an a6000 so I cannot test this for myself.
- There are other ways to use the a6000 as a webcam, but they typically are a hassle to make work.
- If anyone has any helpful tips to get that specific camera to work with THIS METHOD please comment below :)
Hopefully this helps :)
Zac Sopak a5000 doesn’t work, cam live says no camera....
Does it works with the a6000?
My setup using Camtwist was super pixelated video quality but this new version is awesome!!
@@JohnWilliamDomingo try changing your resolution inside of camtwist preferences to 1280x720
Hi, can we livestream on CZcams using this way?
That's EXACTLY what I was looking for! No fluff, straight up steps towards using Sony camera as a webcam without any capture card! Thank you!
You're very welcome 🤙
Tried dozens of "use your Sony Camera as a webcam" videos. Yours is the only one that worked. Thanks.
Mark Hailey that’s good to know. I’m so glad to hear that it helped! Have fun with your new webcam 👍🏻
Hi Zac. Any clues how to get my Rode shotgun camera mounted mic to work with your solution. I have a A6400.
@@mah5255 As far as I know you cannot use the camera audio for this method. There are however a couple of options.
1. you could run the Rode directly into your computer with a cable like this amzn.to/3jegYHU However, the one drawback is that you would need to use headphones or external speakers in order to hear the audio coming from your computer. You could use the standard apple headphones if you wanted.
- Macs are a bit funky because they don't have a dedicated mic input. So if you don't have external speakers or a set of headphones that you like, then this method may not satisfy your needs.
2. You could purchase one of these cheap capture cards amzn.to/3gDASdI It's like $23 and would enable your mic and camera audio to feed into your computer since it runs over HDMI.
- This is actually what I use now instead of the Camera Live and Cam Twist method because it's easier and more flexible.
- I'll be making a part 2 of this video soon talking about this capture card. It's only 1080p at 30fps, but that is more than enough for the majority of people and I've never seen a capture card that produces such good quality for such a cheap price.
3. You could always purchase a USB mic to use for your computer, but obviously, you'd be limited to what you could use it for. Unless... if you happen to have the Rode Video Mic NTG amzn.to/2D4JFYx then I think you can just run that to your computer over USB.
Hope that this helps Mark!
@@ZacSopak Thanks for the super quick response. I'll try one of those options.
This is the best tutorial to get lagless and smooth video input into your OBS. Other tutorials didn't work. This one did! Saved me $200 on Elgato! This video needs a million more views! More power to you, Zac! Great content!
DJ Carlo Atendido wow thanks so much for the kind words! Glad it helped out!
@@ZacSopak Is the quality the same as Elgato though? Have you all tested?
@@srgnt23 quality isn’t as good as elgato’s. I’ve tried this method with the camtwist, sony’s imaging edge webcam software and the camlink4K. Sony’s webcam software is buggy and camera live would sometimes go from “ active” to “camera error”
@@ZacSopak Hy, can you maybe zoom with a 10-18 or 16-35mm lens in the middle of a zoom call?
At first I was apprehensive cause of the length of the video, but this is actually the best tutorial I’ve ever seen. With links in the description and time stamps on the video. Thank you !

This works like a charm! I just spent a week watching tutorials on how to connect my DSLR and the were always pointing back to "expensive" video capture cards. I cannot believe this is free. And it works with my old Canon T2i, too!

4 years later and it still works!!!!! Good Job my friend!
That’s awesome 😆 I had no idea it still worked!
I'm curious about your camera mount. The stand you linked doesn't appear to be desk mountable? Is it just a tri pod behind your desk?
It is actually a light stand with a quick release plate on it. Basically it serves the purpose of a tripod. It's just hidden really well.
3:58 or just right click and select "Open"... does the same thing as his way.... just a lot less clicking
Good to know!
Thank you, Zac. I find your teaching very friendly and helpful. Warm regards from the Netherlands.

Thanks, man! Nice summary and approach. Using a7ii worked like a charm the first time. Unfortunately camera live tool went to "camera error" after about an hour and could not recover. If anyone experienced the same - please comment. OBS with Sony's remote control still works too as a backup plan.
Hey Andrey, sorry to hear that you're having some issues. I haven't personally experienced the issue that you described so I can't really suggest a solution. The only thing that comes to mind is when I've had my battery die on me I get a camera error.
Out of curiosity, what camera mode do you have the dial on top set to? I typically run mine in movie mode.
@@ZacSopak Tried movie, auto and pretty much all other modes. Like you mentioned, I also feel like if battery goes lower than x% - camera error comes up, however mine never recovered.. Anyway, using OBS and screen capture works, perhaps one day sony will start supporting Macs better :)

Great video! Are we able to use the same software with a Canon EOS?
hey Zac. We are just really getting into streaming, and this video was tremendously helpful! Can you give some advice on our two lenses. We have the kit Sony lens (3.5-5.6/18-135) and Sonnar Zeiss (1.8/24) - which lens is best for streaming live vid, and if neither (ha) do you have a suggestion on a better alternative? Thanks so much. Loving your content!
The 24mm 1.8 sounds perfect to me. I guess it depends on what kind of a livestream you’re doing, but that would be my suggestion.

hello,
I just would like to give a quick way to open camTwist and that by Clicking Right click then open it will ask you to click on cancel or open click open and you are good to go .
This is great information! Thanks! Do you know how long you can use it as a webcam? Is it limited to the battery power?
I depends on your camera's battery type. If you find that the battery isn't lasting long enough you can get a "dummy battery" like this amzn.to/3rxKeNL should give you infinite battery life.
Thank you Zac, with best regards 👍👍👍.
Do you know Is it possible to connect two camera at the same time?
Thank you
Yes, I actually did it towards the end of the video 👍🏻
Thank you so much ❤😍 it works :))))

Querencia.tv thanks so much! Glad that you enjoyed it 😊 I’ve been using this setup a lot lately with all of my Zoom meetings.
Great video! Very straightforward. What camera were you using on your computer? Can a stock lens give me a basic depth of field?
I depends on the kind of lens you’re using and how far away you are from your background. For example, an f1.8 lens will provide more depth of field than a f3.5 lens.
The camera I used in the video is a Sony A7iii and a 35mm f1.8
Great tutorial. Looking to start videos. What mount do you have in the back to put the a7iii on top of the monitor
Thanks! I use a well hidden light stand and a mini ball head. It hides nicely behind the iMac. Here's what I use.

Hi Zach. This is so awesome. Will this also work if I want to live stream on OBS with 3 cameras. Will camlink and cam twist allow adding multiple cameras?
Hey man! Thanks for a great tutorial, it was super helpful. I presume this doesn't allow you to stream out AND record in-camera at the same time?
Ethan Lowry I don’t think you can record and stream and camera at the same time. However, if you are using a streaming service like OBS then you can stream and record directly onto your computer.

Hi zack nice tutorials, planning to use my a6400 as my daily stream cam and an imac 5k. What mounting camera you use?? Thanks anyway.
Hey! I use one of these mounts amzn.to/3IcnmfN
Thanks for putting this together and sharing! I’m finding that the video quality is poor however.... worse than my iMac FaceTime camera... any ideas on why that would be? I’m wondering if it’s as simple as the USB cable.... I’m using a USB-C to USB-A cable and the iMac is top spec, so shouldn’t be performance related....
AnteaterUSA try switching your preferences in Cam Twist. I find that changing my FPS to 30 and my resolution to 720 is a good starting point even if the camera is set to24 FPS a higher resolution. Hopefully that helps :)
Thanks, Zac. I have a macbook m1. Any solutions for it?
