    I have 75km in my Sky Paris and 72km in Edge Paris. Which one I prefer changes almost every day 😅 But I need to say that for me the Sky Paris feel more stable, I don’t feel the “wobbling” you feel. And for me Edge Paris feels significantly more soft than Sky Paris 😊 I do prefer the more controlled ride of Sky and the softness has a totally different feeling than the softness in Edge. It’s like you really can feel the plate having a lot of foam under it and I love that feeling. Still soft but super responsive. But with that being said, I can’t deny my test results, I’m constantly faster in Edge even though I try to find a way for Sky to be the best for me in every single test 😊

      It's funny I have the exactly the same reaction in terms of preference varying between the two, and the opposite with regard to the feel of the shoe...

    Another great video Barry. I had looked at your raw Stryd data before and I think this is a good summary. These two shoes are indeed way too close so I guess the distinguishing factor is comfort and feel of stability. I think stability is an important aspect in a marathon shoe. I ran my last marathon in Adidas Prime X Strung OG. The (lack of) stability on the heel was a punishment for me in the last 5k. Good luck in Boston! Will you do a pre-Boston video?

    Thanks for this video, Barry. I wasn’t planning to get either Paris. But after watching I ordered the Edge. The only SuperShoe that works for me - and works really well! - is the Vaporfly, the original being the best. But my 2018 Vaporflys are getting worn down. I have a half marathon road race in early May and will report back!

    Great metaspeed comp video Barry! I'd say, given that it was just 1km reps that, the shoes performed very similarly - so similarly that you can't pick them apart on the data alone. I think the data would be within the likely error bands were you to do a true repeatability test (I'm not advocating you actually doing this!). My thoughts are that the Parises are likely to both be very good race shoes, and people should choose one over the other based on how they prefer their ride to feel rather than stride vs cadence.

    • @OldManRunner
      @OldManRunner  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Chris. I agree! I’m standing here in the Airport with my pair of Edge Paris’s in the bag. Simply because I like lightweight of both Paris shoes and the running feel in the Edge Paris.

    Thanks. I bought the Edge loved it but somehow always nervous that Maybe I should have the sky. Seems like they are both great with really subtle differences. Also seems like you really need to try them on to see which you prefer. Their Cadence vs stride thing is not the least bit helpful.

    Great video. Does the first sky version and the Edge Paris feel similar? The first Sky version was my favourite shoe but I hated the second version because it felt like my foot was hanging off the side as it rolled inwards. Not sure if this was caused by the plate position being changed but I would give the Edge Paris a go if it had a similar ride to the original Sky.

    • @OldManRunner
      @OldManRunner  Před měsícem

      To be honest they are similar, but only in the way that all the series shoes are similar. The different stack height is immediately noticeable. I think the Paris series has definite improvements over the earlier Sky versions (the original Edge is quite a different shoe). I can run in all of them without difficulty but the Edge Paris is my pick of the bunch. I am a member of Asics OneAsics membership club. It's free and has benefits in that you get free returns and you can try a shoe for 90 days and then send it back if you are unhappy. You can always cancel the membership after that if you don't want the emails...worth a shot if you are uncertain.

  • @thomasdamato9430
    @thomasdamato9430 Před 2 měsíci +1

    My question is the importance of the overall feel throughout the duration of an entire marathon. We can endure a certain amount of discomfort during a 5 and 10k distance where a shoes performance is more critical, so the test would be conclusive if all shoes were tested under those circumstances please correct me if I’m off point here.

    • @OldManRunner
      @OldManRunner  Před 2 měsíci +1

      You are right. One of the difficulties is the limited data. It’s only me and I can’t run a marathon to test each one, though I did run 3 marathons in two of the shoes which gives me some idea. And a 10k race in another and lots of testing in all of them. But for sure I will only really find out about the Edge Paris or Sky Paris if I run a full marathon in them. And even then the marathon courses are usually different. So a lot is experience mixed with intuition. My hope is that it helps people make better choices overall in the shoes they chose to buy and run in. Even if they are different to the choices I might make.

    @m.ch4rmaland3r10 Před 2 měsíci

    I really like the magic speed 3 lately, which is a low plate. From what I can see, the edge paris is a mid plate, and Sky paris is a high plate. In nike, i like alphafly, which is a high plate, over vaporfly, low plate, strangely. When i tried the Edge and Sky paris at the store, i agree with you, that the edge felt more stable. I believe it is what felt great and edge paris felt good for me on that shoe plod but i am unsure over the distance or pace. Great review

    • @OldManRunner

      I haven’t tried the Magic Speed 3. Have had my legs full with these! Ran 30km one day in the Edge Paris without difficulty… hope to do more soon…

    • @TolunayOrkun
      @TolunayOrkun Před 2 měsíci +1

      I think it is more accurate to classify Sky Paris high plate positioning vs Edge as high to low plate positioning with the plate higher in the heel and digging lower in forefoot. Vaporfly is like Edge Paris. Alphafly is difficult comparison because of the pods altering the characteristics of the shoe. V1 was more like mid flat plate but its role was more about stabilizing element. In v2/v3 they increased the drop so the plate goes slightly higher in the heel.

      Would you believe I am heading out for my third day of an identical run in the AF3. Yesterday the Sky Paris and the day before the Edge Paris. Then it's decision time. They are all really good. I will have a look at the Stryd data afterwards, and do a few back to back short sprints in the street and then decide. My guess is it will be the Edge Paris in the hand luggage and a reserve in case I break it or something mad happens. Running a 5k on Saturday...so good to have a coupe of pairs...

      If I heel strike and rolled I would not pick either. Certainly not for long distance. The heel is narrow. I would go for the Alphafly 3 if you could get a pair and handle the cost. They are much wider.They are available right now on Nike Europe in most sizes

    I’m going back-and-forth is it worth it? If I can get a great time you know don’t say qualified for Boston or something and then never use them again maybe for a race if I feel like it but as of now I’m just running I’ve got nothing in the training perspective I was just curious if anybody else has this issue it must change something in the gate and it bothers my right Achilles .
