  • How to change the gearbox oil or fluid on a Mk5 R32 Golf.
    The gearbox oil is next to be changed on the R32. Like many manufacturers VW list this as a lifetime fluid. Lets change this and get some fresh high quality fluid in.
    This made a great difference, bare in mind the car only has ~60,000 miles. The gearbox is much smoother and keener to engage gears.

    Neil a big thank you from New Zealand. I have just finished servicing my R32 with you as my instructor.
    Thanks for all your time and trouble. You are just like all the delightful people my beautiful wife and I met
    as we traveled through your lovely country. I have to say that the Irish are more like New Zealanders
    than any other people in any other country I have visited. If ever you come to NZ you must be my guest.
    Sincerely Paul Owen-Lowe

    Neil, thanks in advance for all the time and effort you put into your videos. You have done an amazing job and have ran me through pretty much all the maintenance on my r32! Great job 🙏🏼
    I just want to confirm that the video you did is for a Manuel r32, correct and not for the DSG US Sold version, correct?
    Is there any chance you could direct me in the right direction on how to change the DSG fluid in the 08 R32? Also, does anyone know how much fluid goes in the DSG box after a full flush and filter change?

      @NeilMagill  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks very much Brian, the compliments are very much appreciated.
      It does take quite a bit of time to video things, at times doubling the time to do a task!
      At least you know you have maintained your car yourself and done things properly!
      Unfortunately I'm not aware of all of the DSG details. I'd suggest Humble Mechanic or deutsche auto parts on YT, they may have a video for you.

      Decidí mejorar un poco el fluido con fluidos premium. No hay daño en el uso del original.

    I understand the fill level is at the bottom of the filler hole, you would normally let it drain to a drip would you not so its at the correct level. Putting the fill plug back in when oil is pouring out is not ideal?

    • @NeilMagill
      @NeilMagill  Před rokem

      You could do that too 😀, whatever works best for you.

    • @wattysautos5442
      @wattysautos5442 Před rokem

      @Neil Magill spot using a torque wrench though 👌🏻 my car only takes 1.8ltrs of oil, allowing the oil to find its level at the bottom of the fill plug verifys this. That's the reason I mention to let it find its own level before re fitting the fill plug. Many modern gearboxes are very sensitive to overfilling.

    Great video BTW

      I think the gearbox oils differ, so it's worth double checking what you need.

      @@NeilMagill Okay, but I guess it's the same procedure perhaps? Mine is from 2006, and it has never been changed in 92.000 km. I am thinking about doing it...

  • @Jfrancis722

    Is this the rear diff or the manual gear box? (I’ve never seen the underside)
    VW told me that you never need to change the gearbox oil on a manual, only on a DSG. I find that strange seeing as it’s still moving parts and that the haldex rear diff oil needs to be done every so often

    • @NeilMagill
      @NeilMagill  Před 3 lety

      Many manufacturers say the same... but it's all good maintenance.

    Why not just disconnect the lines from the cooler, put output in drain pan, input in new bottle of trans fluid, turn car on and let the pump do the work? When the nasty colored stuff stops coming out and the new stuff starts flowing into the pan, you are done. While you're at it, put an inline mag filter in there.

      Hi Don, a wee sub would be appreciated. This is a manual transmission... i.e. no gearbox cooler.

    Good afternoon. I would really appreciate your your advice .. so i m concerned i just installed used transmission which works fine and don't won't to mess up.. Recently I put 6qt
    TITAN ATF 1 with vw spec VW TL 521 62(G 052 162 ) in my VW Passat 2.0 T tiptronic fwd. 6 speed by mistake.
    I saw later that TITAN have the other fluid that exactly match with specifications for my model of car which is TITAN 4400 Spec VW G 052 990055 025. But both products are approved for VW
    Vw fluid from Dealer for my car has spec G 055 025 A2. Which I belive it match with TITAN 4400.. long story short I have flluid from b5 01m tramsmission in b6 09g transmission
    Should I drain it and replace right away with correct specifications or I can drive for a while with ATF 1 and then change to TITAN 4400 after a year .
    Whats the difference in this specifications and how important this is if both are approved for VW ? Thank you so much in advance.

    do you have any complaints about this oil, how the gearbox behaves at high and low temperatures. I am thinking whether to buy Fuchs or Febi Bilstein for my VW manual transmission. Your recommendation is Fuchs?

      None at all, there are a few comments discussing it and I did mention it in the video. It's entirely your choice :)

    Does the gear box share the oil with the front differential?
