    Eastern Promises is a must Devin! Also, William Hurt who plays Richie was incredible in this! Obviously he wasn't in the movie all that long but when he appeared you could just feel this power and menace with his character. A well deserved Academy Award Nomination!

      @papabear_cdxl4699 Před 2 lety +6

      Apparently when Richie puts his forehead to Joeys it wasn’t scripted, William Hurt just tried something and Vigo went with it. I love directors that allow their actors that freedom 🙂

    David Cronenberg doesn't fuck around, especially with violence. You really should get into his work, as he's one of the most iconic filmmakers of the past 40 years.
    Also, I love how this is supposed to take place in Midwestern America, but damn near everyone who isn't in the main cast sounds Canadian as fuck lmao

      I'd love for Cronenberg to do another horror film (nothing gets under my skin like body horror). However, when this movie came out, I was not expecting it to be this good. This film, and Eastern Promises are two of Viggo's and Cronenberg's best movies.
      If you like this, you should definitely check out Eastern Promises. Viggo plays a russian mob enforcer trying to climb the ranks, but there's a lot going on under the surface. Can't say anymore because Spoilers.

Spink starring Viggo Mortensen, Maria Bello, William Hurt, Ed Harris and music score by Howard Shore. The film received widespread acclaim from critics and was nominated for 2 Oscars best supporting actor by William Hurt and best adapted screenplay. If you'd can find it, the graphic novel in which this movie is based has similar scenes at its beginning but is extremely different from then on. I absolutely LOVED the graphic novel's story. It was more expansive, provided a lot of needed and entertaining back story and had a revelation scene that, if existed in film, would have stuck in your mind well after you finished watching the movie.
    The movie adaptation is very much like the one for The Bourne Identity. Both movies jettisoned the bulk of the material that comprised their stories and substituted a whole new narrative in its place. It would be like Brody, Quint and Hooper setting out in a boat to kill the shark in Jaws only to have that storyline dropped in favor of them going after Somalian pirates. A total rewrite of their source material.
    There's a youtube video explaining the differences between the two but I couldn't find it. What did pop up was this video of the graphic novel. You'll be very surprised at the difference. czcams.com/video/uQBRkWF6CYo/video.html

    Instead of kicking him in the stomach, he crushed his throat
    The first time he moved the gun out of the way he also went into the trachea

    Also try the movie Mr. Brooks with Kevin Costner. It's underrated.
