$42 Moxon Vice Build - Using PRESS CLAMPS & wood laying around the shop!

- I had a piece of poplar left over from when I built my bench, so I used that as the fixed board and face board. I purchased the hardware on line for $40 (searched for press clamps) and two washers for $2 at my local hardware store. This was a very easy build that can be done in a day. The glue up is the only step I had to wait for.

Great idea! Well done, thanks for posting.
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching.
Very good video work nice and clean good to see young'n helping and learning how to do stuff brilliant.
Carry on the good work mate mate 👍👌👏
Thank you very much!
Love the video, great content and great value. But one suggestion would be to reduce the volume of the background music as I need to keep raising and lowering the volume on CZcams to hear your voice versus the music my suggestion only but keep up the great videos.
Thank you very much. I’m trying to figure that issue out. I thought I had it but when I posted it, it was back to being too loud. I’ll figure it out on the next one, hopefully.
Great tutorial and your kid picking on your mistake, classic!
Thank you so much!!
Your young assistant is diligent and learning alongside you…priceless!
He really is. He will be teaching me soon!!!
Love my moxin vice !! I’ve built several of them ! This is a great design integrating into the bench ! Love it ! Keep it up brother
Thank you Daniel. I hope I linked to your video correctly. It’s the dove tail making one that inspired me to build this so I can start cutting dovetails by hand. If I didn’t just let me know or post a better one and I will pin it to the top.
Very cool!
Love these videos
Thank you
I really like that idea! Now I have to make me one 😂
If you need one it's a nice and easy build. I'm glad you liked it, see you Bearded Viking soon.
Great video. I can’t wait to watch some more of your stuff.
Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much!!!
I have a couple of those made by Pony for a different purpose. I never thought about using them for a Moxon. I ended up buying some 3/4" Acme rod and nuts to make my own. This would have been cheaper and easier for sure!
Yeah they work really well. Thank you for watching.
I'm interested to see how durable the press clamps are in this application over time. I intend building a new moxon vice for the new bench and was thinking of using the press clamps for the same reason you have. I intend having springs around the screw thread between the two jaws to naturally keep the jaw spread for ease of use. That will require a two stage diametre hole in both the fixed and floating jaw around the screw thread.
I love the idea of the springs. I might add that later down the road. The quality of the metal seems pretty good so I think it would hold up for a long time. I will post if anything fails on it.
Please accept this a honest criticism. Watching this video was difficult as the music was to loud and your voice over was to soft. I had to adjust my volume all the time. Should I stumble upon another video again and if your audio is balanced out, I will subscribe as your work is good. All the best.
Thank you very much. I completely understand and will have it fixed on all future videos. I know what the problem is and if I am unable to balance out the music I will remove it. Apparently people don’t care that much about it. Thank you again for feedback and hope to get another chance for you to consider subscribing.
@@woodnotestudioThe problem with music is not everyone will like your choice of music. I simply won't watch a video of I don't like the music. Just do some voice over about what your doing, explaining what's going on, etc...
@@ScottPartridge-uc4iz that is a good point. Thank you.
How wide is it and how thick of material are you using grate video trying to make me one thanks
@donaldjauregui1625 I made it specific to the dimensions of my bench to avoid bolts and screws. It’s 22 inches wide and I’m using 3/4 inch poplar. The face consists of two glued together for 1 1/2 inch thickness and the back is 3/4 attached to 1 inch thick pine since that is the frame of my bench. Let me know how yours turns out.
@@woodnotestudio it’s 22” long then how wide is it
@@donaldjauregui1625 it’s 7” wide since that’s how wide the board I had was. I wouldn’t go smaller than 4”
Those “press clamps” are actually “hole mount screw clamps”. Press clamps are used with a drill press.
I’m not sure, but the box they came in said they were press clamps. But what you’re saying definitely makes sense. Thank you.
They are advertised as Press Clamps.
I believe this style of clamp is traditionally used in a "book press", so they call it a "press clamp."
@@red58impala you are absolutely correct. You just take off the end and are all set to go.
You should wear your respirator and ear protection while attempting to watch this video
Not sure about the respirator but definitely the ear protection. I’ll get that sound all fixed on the next one. 🤣
please don't use music or if you do have it playing SOFTLY in the background. Thanks.
Thank you, I thought I had that figured out but I’m still learning. I will have it fixed on my next video or I won’t have any music.
