Clever Quick Release Pipe Clamp Vise for my Workbench

- After 2 years of using my workbench without a vise, I took some scrap plywood and some pipe clamps to make one! There are lots of great designs out there but I didn't like how you have to reach underneath the table and adjust the clamps separately if you want to clamp thicker material. You still have about 7 centimeters of travel with the threaded portion if you want to clamp thin materials and about 40cm of clamping capacity overall.
Thank you very much for watching!

Hi Sebastian, excellent idea, great job. I've looked for pipe clamps with these special release levers, but I didn't find. Could you please tell us the product name and where we can get them? TIA Hans
Hi Hans! Sadly i can’t tell you the brand because i bought it in a local hardware store and they have no labeling on them (pretty sure it comes from China)
@@Ollaris Thanks anyway!

Also, it seems Harbor Freight 1/2" pipe clamps are coming with the same release. The pic on their site is not very clear, but this seller on Ebay shows the same HF clamp for sale and it looks like the one Ollari is using (check out the pictures)

They look very similar to ones sold at harbor freight (at least the release mechanism does).
Right-on, an easy to make moxon vise with quick release, using available parts for the trickiest portion of the release mechanism. Cool, it's the version I'll be building for my bench.
Hello my friend.
You have created a nice pipe clamp vise for the bench. Good idea.
**It's nice to create and share a variety of ideas to help many people. Congratulations**
....
Thank you 😊
Super gemacht!
Vielen Dank! Freut mich das es dir gefallen hat!
That quick release is pure genius! I sub'd just for that reason alone.
Thanks a lot!
One of the many things I appreciate about your channel is your creativity and new ideas you come up with. Well done!
Thanks a lot Dan! I really appreciate it!
I've been looking at a dozen similar videos lately, but I may like this one the best. Normally I like plenty of instruction, but your workflow made it dead simple to follow and the music made the time pass way faster than it should have.
With that 3 layer lamination of the plywood I bet it feels solid as a rock when sawing and mortising. Nice work, we appreciate the ideas.
Very nice job. I love the release system you got going there. I've seen these in the past and I always thought this would be a pain until now. Well done
Amazing idea! Funnily enough, I just received 4 of those pipe clamps and was looking for a vice option. Thank you, definitely going to build this, too!
I'm digging this one! I'll just have to figure out how to adapt it to the less expensive standard pony clamp. Thanks for inspiring me!
Need to make one of these vises. Great job!!!!
Love that vise. Think i need to have something like that in my workbench 👍
Awesome idea! I may have to integrate that into my new workbench.

Hi. First of all I loved the idea. I wanted to ask you what is the name of the screw you used to do it. I am from Argentina and wanted to know how to find it here. From already thank you very much. Martin.
Never seen pipe clamps like this before. Where did you get them with the quick release? Thanks.
great
I planned this type of vise for my bench, but I didn't know how to adjust the jaws. Thanks.
I couldn't see that you made the holes in the front jaw wide for it not to bind and to hold irregular pieces, but it seemed like it in the end?
What kind of bar clamps are those? Do you have a link or recommendation?
Turns out there's a really good reason this style of pipe clamp is hard to find. They don't work consistently. I just spent about a month designing the upgrade of my work bench, collecting parts about $150 worth of parts, and building it only to find that the damn vise doesn't hold. WHATEVER YOU DO, THINK OF ANOTHER WAY to build a big moxon vise. I'm not blaming "Ollari", because his clamps probably worked fine. ALSO, drilling holes in those levers is nasty because they're hardened steel - not mentioned by Ollari, btw.
After crying in my soup for quite a while, I'm going to rebuild, this time with vise screws from Amazon or Lee Valley. I'm going to lose the quick-release feature, but there is no work-around for the damn pipe clamps not holding. I am so annoyed.
where did you get that style of pipe clamp with the lever?
Always wondered why these aren’t more popular, they can be made for next to nothing.
I'd a bet money you were going to make it foot released so you could use both hands retracting the moveable jaw. That's what mine will have...when I get around to building it. Nice job.
Great idea on this, is there anyone who knows where to buy/source these type of pipe clamps in the uk? The lever release is unusual and difficult to find.
Where did you get these clamps can’t find them anywhere????
Excellent DIY Bench Vise! One question.... I've never seen anyone do a free-hand router cut like that. How were you able to see the pattern lines under the router with all the wood chips flying off? Even more amazing is how precise the cut fit the clamp. Well done!
I'd also love to know the bit you used... 1/4" spiral, downcut, upcut, etc.
Great design! Very simple, where did you get the clamps with that one piece release?
Thanks. I bought them a t a local store.
