I work in a machine shop, I'm used to working with tolerances that measure in the thousandths of inches. I have precision machines at my disposal that cost as much as a small home. The level of precision you manage to get in something as easy to screw up as wood, using hand tools, commands my respect.

I've watched this video about 20 times now and I will watch many more. I bought the plans, and it was worth every penny. I would have paid just for the instructional videos. Excellent instruction. I also started making calls to local sawmills (by local I mean the closest one is over 200 miles away) to buy all the wood and almost had a heart attack. So, I called the guys at L.L. Johnson Lumber/Johnsons Workbench in Charlotte MI. and they hooked me up. It was actually $250 more than I could have bought lumber, but I don't need to drive 209 miles one way, haul it back, cut and mill it. It is being delivered to my door and I only need to do minimum milling on the wood. (Thank you Justin) I probably won't post a picture of my finished bench as it will not live up to the original.

Two tools he didn't have were: mallet and straight edge/ruler. He only ever used his hands to drive the chisels and could eyeball measurements and straight lines. A true artisan. He is missed.

So appreciated your video...videos. I bought you plans for the bench and finally built it.... I should have done this 40 years ago. I went with the 9 foot version and went 30" wide andit suites me very well, couldn't be happier. I made some modifications for my own personal needs but your ideas and plans helped me alot. I went with a sliding deadman on both sides and for the bench hook I used an old idea. I am a piano tuner and cabinet maker so I have seen the way they used to attach grand piano legs which was a slip fit system that allows me to put on and take off the hook very quickly and is amazingly strong. I have save up wood and vices for many years for this project and after carefully studying your videos and plans I finally did it. It took me 2 weeks and had alot of fund with the draw tenons and really the whole thing. I had to glue the top upside down and then do the mortises and vices before I used an engine hoist to lit and turn that 9 foot monster onto its base. It fit like a dream. I made a sliding bench on top of it for detailed work as well as a router based board flattening jig so I could straighten boards up to 9 feet by 28" by 8" tall. Having a true top and even sides is like being in a different world. Now after having the bench for about 3 months I realize that I use it every day for almost everything and am thinking about building another one. I have 5 large work benches but absolutely love this one. Thanks for all your help!

First time watching one of your videos and I must say, it was very impressive. Loved the build. Great work and super nice finished product. Inspiring actually. It is amazing to think of the number of projects that bench will see in its lifetime. You better start now thinking about who you want to leave it to because that thing will be functional for a very long time. Congratulations on a great design and thanks for sharing.

I got the plans for the workbench. I am going to build it out of eastern red cedar ,all solid heartwood I had the logs sawmilled. The top of the bench is a 3 1/2”thick slab.and 18”wide. I built a farm tressle table from the plans I ordered from Third coast. It turned out good.

The wood itself is beautiful! Looks like maple but seems to plane more like beech. The build is incredible - perhaps you have a part time job as a timber framer because you sure have the skill set. I watched the vid at work with the sound off and still loved it. Thanks for sharing and for your commitment to your craft.

I`m retired and have a small shop where I perform woodturning, create musical instruments, and some cabinetry. I have a shelf full of woodworking textbooks - but I found this woodworking guide, *TopFineWoodworking. Com* . The comprehensiveness of this book is surprising. It has decent coverage on every topic.?

im so glad i found your video because i didnt want to screw my bench top down to the frame so i dont have to worry about accidentally hitting one with a tool. using a mortise and tenon with dowels to attach it is genius.

Third Coast Craftsman I also gasped when I saw the spray paint hit the maple - but it looks awesome. I love the look. Curious as to whether you could have saved money by using a cheaper species on the parts you intended to paint? Is there a reason to use the maple on the legs, even though they were going to be painted? I love this bench. Really great work - and the quality of your videos is fantastic. Keep it up!
