Can you HANDLE it?? (Uncut)
zhlédnutí 160Před měsícem
Making a handle for a dovetail saw is an unnecessary challenge but one I wanted to try. Since I always show my mistakes since it is part of my journey to share, this one is to help prevent others from making the same oversights. Enjoy a laugh with me at the end when I realize what I've done. Some videos aren't always what they're cut out to be. If you enjoyed the video, please subscribe and hit...
$42 Moxon Vice Build - Using PRESS CLAMPS & wood laying around the shop!
zhlédnutí 21KPřed 2 měsíci
I had a piece of poplar left over from when I built my bench, so I used that as the fixed board and face board. I purchased the hardware on line for $40 (searched for press clamps) and two washers for $2 at my local hardware store. This was a very easy build that can be done in a day. The glue up is the only step I had to wait for. The following pages and links inspired me to make this vice: @k...

I take maple and add a touch of walnut to give this piece just enough depth to be out on display. This can hold anything from plates to books or spices. It was a fun project that allowed me to try some new techniques. Some worked well while others, I would skip if I did this one again. Hope you enjoy. • @1deerndingo

    I'm interested to see how durable the press clamps are in this application over time. I intend building a new moxon vice for the new bench and was thinking of using the press clamps for the same reason you have. I intend having springs around the screw thread between the two jaws to naturally keep the jaw spread for ease of use. That will require a two stage diametre hole in both the fixed and floating jaw around the screw thread.

    • @woodnotestudio
      @woodnotestudio Před 2 měsíci

      I love the idea of the springs. I might add that later down the road. The quality of the metal seems pretty good so I think it would hold up for a long time. I will post if anything fails on it.

    What are you thoughts on the brass wheels over the stones? Thinking to make new wheels out of PA6 or POM rod. Putting o-ring on them only work when they are placed on the outer side of the guide is my experience due to small clearance between wheel and inside housing.

  • @gratefull71240
    @gratefull71240 Před 2 měsíci

    Bought myself exactly the same honing guide. Not the angle guide, making my own stop guide to save some pennies. Use a Trend 300/1000 diamond plate + 4000 Shapton glass stone, might buy a 8000 later. Will make a leather strop later as well.

    • @woodnotestudio
      @woodnotestudio Před 2 měsíci

      The angle guide isn’t needed since you can just use the honing guide to figure out the angle but I didn’t realize that until after I bought it. The 8000 is going to make a difference on getting really close to a razor sharp blade and then making your own leather strop is wise. Very well done.
