Can someone explain why you don't just rev the engine to spool up the turbo? I can't find the answer to this anywhere. Its all we used to do. You'd rev the engine a few thousand rpm before launch, then as the tree lit, reduce the rev to launch rpm, then dump clutch. Please help?

The turbo requires engine load to produce enough exhaust gas to build boost so the anti-lag stragegy allows unburnt fuel to pass into the exhaust, the fuel vapour ignites in the exhaust and the pressure produced by the explosions drives the turbine wheel and therefore produces boost pressure.
