Making Some Bangles From Recycled Bass Guitar Strings

  • I love making jewellery from recycled guitar and bass guitar strings. Recently I had a commission to make something from a special set of guitar strings that was used by Francis Rossi from Status Quo and part of the request was to leave the string pegs on the ends of the strings. I usually cut the pegs off and use them as beads so I really enjoyed working the strings in a different way.
In this video I show you in detail a step by step guide to making some bangles from some of my old bass guitar strings. It's a long video, so grab a cup of tea and snuggle up!
There is a selection of guitar string jewellery listed in my online shop, including the pieces you see me make in this video. The guitar string jewellery section of my shop is here:

I can only offer UK postage on orders at this time.

Very attractive items, I always love creative re-use of something that others would just throw out. My last girlfriend was a huge Status Quo fan! Well done on the well deserved growth of the channel, it deserves to grow so much more! Your videos are so calming and enjoyable to watch.

That's so kind; thank you Peter. I was really buzzing to be handling strings used by Francis Rossi; I'm not a massive Status Quo fan, but he's a living legend!

I like the fact the background music is guitar music! Very appropriate! Best wishes, Linda ( Clangerlady).

Thank you for watching Linda :-) I use the same few pieces of music all the time - he's a musician called Doctor Turtle and he created some acoustic guitar pieces for the music library on Movie Maker. I really love his playing style and find his music often seems to feel appropriate for my videos. I use a couple of other music sources as well, but I love Doctor Turtle the most

Thank you :) I really enjoy making these, even though not many people watch my videos on it. I just wanted a week off from resin projects and do something simple and easy this week, because I'm absolutely exhausted after so much travelling this past couple of weeks

These are awesome. I’ve been making jewellery for 13 years and this is something I’ve been looking for to sell at a buskers festival that I have a market stall at annually. I always try to have something different each year. Can I offer some advice? To cut those thick wires, maybe you should invest in memory wire cutters. They’re pretty tough and it would prevent you for damaging the other pliers. It’s easier on your hands too. Thank you for sharing this 🫶🦘

Thanks so much for the advice on better bass string cutters. Guitar strings are waaaaay easier to work with and I made bangles, pendants and earrings with those - there should be a video card somewhere in this video that takes you to my first video tutorial. You can also cut them to size and glue end caps on with fastenings so you can make stuff that works for a smaller wrist but doesn't haven't to slide over the entire hand. They're really fun to make and I think the finished pieces look so good :-) Best of luck with your stall at the festival!

@@marymcintyresfxartcraft7417 your welcome on the wire cutter advice. I’m considering using three strings and maybe doing a weave using jewellery wire, it would make a great cuff. Possibly even doing the same for earring hoops. I have an awesome industrial strength glue (two part epoxy) that is great for bonding metal. It’s strong like a solder. I’m in Australia, but I’m sure you will have something similar in the UK. I use a lot of resin, and I only use my respirator for the two part epoxy. It’s not necessary to wear one with UV, it doesn’t give off toxic fumes. About the end caps, have you tried to source memory wire end caps? They may fit the end of the strings. I’m pretty sure Beadalon make them. I’ll search for more of your videos. Happy crafting 🫶.

Can you explain or send a link to the product you put on at the end to cover the sharp part? I couldn’t understand what you said thanks!

Hi, originally I used to use a soldering iron and a bit of solder to seal in the edges, but I found that it can be brittle and flake off over time. Now I use a tiny dot of UV resin instead, and cure it with my little UV pen light. I'm currently using JDiction UV resin and a small rechargeable UV torch, both came from Amazon.
