  • In this video I take you through how I make recycled bass and guitar string bracelets. I show you in pretty much real-time how I make bass string bangles, then show you a totally different style of bangle made using a gold coloured, much thinner guitar string.
To finish off the ends I always add a bit of solder, but I don't show that part in this video.
There is a range of guitar string jewellery for sale in my online shop. Click the link below and select the jewellery section. You may have to scroll through some hand-painted pendants to get to the guitar string section.

Beautiful work, and relaxing to watch. I like the wooden coasters!

Thank you so much Peter, I'm really glad you enjoyed it. There's a story behind those log slices. A couple of years ago my mother in law passed away. She had an open fire and there were several logs in her log basket when we were clearing her house. One log in particular looked so nice and I really didn't want to burn it. I brought it home and asked a woodworker in the village to slice it for me so I could use them for pyrography. I like them so more now they've been sanded that I can't bring myself to mark them with my pyrography tool. I know when I find the right design I'll know and I can do some work on a few of them, but I'm going to keep a couple of them plain for displaying my jewellery on. I think they look lovely and it keeps Ruth visible in my heart when I see photos of my work :-)

@@marymcintyresfxartcraft7417 Thank you Mary. I'm sorry for you and Mark's loss. That's a lovely story, it's good to have things that have a special connection like that. If you do some pyrography I'd love to see how it's done :)

Please could you tell me what size wire you use?

The wire I used in this video was beading wire that I picked up from Hobby Craft. It didn't have a gauge on the packaging but it's about 0.8mm diameter. I find the slightly heavier and stiffer gauge like this one is better for wrapping guitar string stuff because it's stronger and holds things better. Hope that helps.

have you ever tried making rings?

Hi Ava, there is no way to make a guitar string bend into something that small. The smallest I've been able to get them is the size of the pendants I make, which have a diameter of 4cm. Even if I could get them small enough for rings, I don't know how I'd get them to stay in a ring shape because the wire wrapping would be uncomfortable around your finger
