back in laos, during the secret war, our house was using corrugated tine for the roof... each time, rainwater would leak through. this practice, when you don't have a lot of things to seal stuff with, my dad would use car gasoline and dipping styrofoam and use it as a putty-like glue to mend stuff with. this would seal holes and whatnot.

Styro putty! Nice. Aparently Turpentine mixed with Styrofoam is similar to acetone too, plus in the above he mixed a lot of styrofoam into the acetone to make a glue, but if you mix much less styrofoam into the Acetone (or maybe turpentine too, never tried that one) it turns into something very similar to polyurethane. So a mix of scrap styrofoam and acetone might be able to protect wood for you in a similar way to polyurethane. Cabots Poly wood finish is $50 a litre here. Acetone is about $10 a litre. If turpentine works in a similar fashion as I suspect it would, that is about $5 a litre...

When it dries, it's rock hard and clear, like acrylic ( DVD CASES etc. are polystyrene in it's unfoamed form). I took it off youtube, because the fumes were nasty !

I rember melting Styrofoam with hairspray as a kid. My aunt had one of those Styrofoam wig heads, once she sprayed the wig with hairspray, some fell on the head and created little holes, that got the gears in my brain spinning. So when she wasn't around i took the head and used hairspray to turn it into a pretty cool skull (melted the nose and eyes and lips), my aunt however was not amused when i showed her what i had done to the "wig head".

The American president likely only speaks a dialect of English, probably not the correct King's English. That will automatically make President Macron more likeable to foreign exporters, and therefore France more likeable to foreign exporters. The American government also has an extremely bad habit, since about the 1970s, of trying to run other nations more than they run their own nation. This does not look very favourable to other nations. Exporters would likely charge the Americans more than what they charge other nations. Sadly, this puts the American citizens at a horrible disadvantage. They are being punished for poor decisions their government makes. It does not seem as if their votes even work. You would think that they would vote out the universalist politicians in favour of politicians that focus on their nation.

But in Huxley's vision, no Big Brother is required to deprive people of their autonomy, maturity and history. As he saw it, people will come to love their oppression, to adore the technologies that undo their capacities to think.

As Huxley remarked in Brave New World Revisited, the civil libertarians and rationalists who are ever on the alert to oppose tyranny "failed to take into account man's almost infinite appetite for distractions." In 1984, Orwell added, people are controlled by inflicting pain. In Brave New World, they are controlled by inflicting pleasure. In short, Orwell feared that what we fear will ruin us. Huxley feared that what we desire will ruin us.

Who among us hasn't desperately needed to glue your tools to the wall? I don't know about you but id be lying if i said I also felt the urge to stretch the time needed to achieve completion at least 200 x. This is obviously about as good as a method as one could shoot for. Only way I see to improve is by crafting the tools to glue up before. If your really wild, build a dedicated tool gluing wall to make it the ultimate way to waste a week of your life. While making sure you'll never have access to said tools again. Can't wait for thr sequel.

You need something like toluene. It does not dissolve in polar solvents. Plus, it is not a particularly good glue. Honestly, this is worse than 5-minute-crafts. I don't believe for a second that hot-glue would hold that brass screwcap and the piece of sandpaper on under actual usage conditions. 🙄

Acetone is not that cheap. How strong is this glue ? Does it weaken over time ? Can you use it outside where there is lots of UV ? Acetone only dissolves certain kinds of foam also. I know the SM styrofoam on the exterior of my house starts to disintegrate in the sunlight. So I don't know how this glue he makes will hold up outside. I think I will buy the exterior landscaping glue. I used it on my garden stones outside to make a garden planter. 20 years now outside in rail and sun and the glue did not let go.
