      Yeah, I owned a '04 Titan, and it was a very good truck. When I think back on the trucks I've owned, my two favorites are the '94 Toyota SR5, and the '04 Titan. I drive a '14 Tundra now, and it's not as fun to drive as the other two.

    I'm looking forward to the next video with comparisons of both the diesel and gas trucks. But I'm also trying so hard to resist the urge to address some of the idiotic comments from others about this truck. I also grow tired of the opinion that the previous Titan didn't measure up against its competition when towing and the like. I deal in reality, not a false sense of my personal opinion of a brand that skews my view of their products. I am not a fan of any of the big three, but I will give them their props for the capable trucks that they produce, even if I personally would not buy it, so please be reasonable and respectful of Nissan for the efforts they have made in producing excellent full sized trucks from 2003 onward!

    • @johng4527
      @johng4527 Před 8 lety +1

      +Daniel Bell c'mon, that's not really a fair statement. 30 years ago there were at least 10 times as many domestic vehicles sold in the U.S. If all car were built equal, then, logically, you should still see at least 10 times as many old domestic cars. Then you have other factors like the type of imports sold back in the day. Most were small cheap four cylinder cars. and little cheap cars get out-dated pretty fast, so people just don't bother with them after 10-15 years because newer vehicles of the same type are readily available and cheap, t has nothing to do with the brand. After all, when was the last time you saw A Ford Tempo, or an 80s Chevy Cavalier, or Lumina.
      Old Cars that are still on the road are there because people choose to continue to fix them.
      Oh, and Dean Dubois's comment is also nonsense....and contradictory, since most Toyotas sold in the US are American Made.

    It seems to me that the Nissan Titan XD is not as capable as it was originally marketed to be. Those payload and towing numbers can be had by the half ton trucks like the F-150, Silverado and Ram 1500. Perhaps the frame is a bit heavier and it is more controlled when towing 11000 lbs than the previously mentioned half tons, but that's just a guess. I wonder if the regular Titan that will be released later will be underachieving in its class.

    • @AB-coyote
      @AB-coyote Před 8 lety +1

      That's exactly right. The Heavier Frame among other components allow the XD to tow at its max comfortably. The Other 1/2 ton gas rigs with similar "NUMBERS ON PAPER" will not tow or handle as well as the XD when they are loaded to the max. They are all great trucks, but Nissan is modest with their ratings.
      The 1/2 ton Titan will not be underachieving. Even the old first gen V8/5 speed combo still holds it's own damn well compared to some of the newer offerings. Maybe not on paper, but in the real world.

Everyone wants to throw around words like "not competitive" when in reality they all do the same things. Only real knock against the Tundra is the fuel economy when compared to the others. Otherwise, how is it objectively not competitive to anything else? Sure, Ram or GMC might have nicer interiors, an F150 might offer more configurations and engine choices. Doesn't team at the end of the day they don't all do the same things for the owners. Brand preference will always fuel truck sales. Not perceived fanboy competitiveness.

      +Mike Frey So, you spent, what, $25-30,000 on a truck to drive 4 days a month? Am I understanding you right? You know you could find a nice used truck online for less than $10,000, even back in 04.

    • @mikefrey4406
      @mikefrey4406 Před 8 lety

      +Daniel Bell - Yes, but that wasn't the plan and it's a long story... My brothers and nephews had gotten into off road bikes at that time, and I was getting BACK into the same, since my kids were grown up and headed off to college (I hadn't been riding for 18 years). I really thought I'd put 10,000+ miles a year on it. I got a company car for work, so I was driving that on weekdays and I still had 2 other cars to drive - so the miles got divided between 4 vehicles and 2 street legal bikes (for a couple years, I had 5 cars). And then everyone started riding their street bikes instead. ...The truck sat a lot. No regrets. I used it when I needed a truck, the rest of the fleet was more fun to drive. Now I am finally driving the Titan more since I cut back to just that and my Infiniti G37x. Still have all the bikes, though.
      "Nice used trucks" were in high demand in 2004 - that's what I was going to buy, but $10,000 would have bought a very used F-150 with over 100,000 miles on it. 4x4 extended cab Chevys and Fords with less than 50,000 miles were in the $20,000+ range. I seriously considered a 1st gen Tundra with 120,000 miles for $17,000, but new won out when the '04 Titans were heavily discounted as the 2005s came out. Even back then, I was fully familiar with shopping nationwide - I live in farm country PA and spend time in farm country CA, and there wasn't much difference in prices left coast vs right coast. I also traveled a lot (usually by plane) and southern state prices were about the same. Any farther north places you into the snow belt, and although most trucks will easily go 200,000 miles, rust was an issue long before accumulated mileage was. My Nissan Hardbody KCab 4x4 was pushing 150,000 miles but was badly rusted, although the engine was great.

    5:46 Maximum payload for that huge truck is 2,500 pounds while the F-150 with a 5.0L V8 can pull 3,300 pounds. And the weight difference is about 2,000 pounds different (the Titan XD is heavier). And the F-150's 2.7L turbocharged V6 can pull 2,200!

    • @chadsteele1

      +777 Lukasz This is Fords problem and they're trying to hide it, carbon build up on the Turbos. Whooops. Most new truck and cars are now coming with direct injection. Fords problem so I read is, turbos too close to the injectors, causing failures. Big surprise here. The 5.0 is the only way to go when looking at the 150

      @Ratkill9000 Před 8 lety

      +777 Lukasz That's only common on VW. Besides it can be remedied with running seafoam in each tank of gas and using the spray. Besides newer engines might have a second set of fuel injectors to help with carbon build up.

    • @chadsteele1
      @chadsteele1 Před 8 lety

      Ratkill9000 Like John G said, Nissans been using this engine for a while. This seems to be a problem with Vw and Ford, as of now. But your right about the second set of injectors to combat this problem. I am not sure if this engine does have (2nd) set or not. I can't wait to take a half ton for a drive though. Drove the Cummins and was impressed. Not Hp wise but you could feel it was smooth. Cheers
