    Kinda funny, I knew a guy who went through similar trials. He is a huge Husqvarna chain saw fan. I think he's got at leas 2 saws with 4 different sized bars, or something like that.
    He bought a Husqvarna blower not realizing they farmed those out. It mostly worked fine but he lives in the woods so hitting tree branches is a common problem. Well, due to a design flaw the auger shear pins won't shear when something wedges between the auger and the bucket. He blew out two gearboxes before he sold it and bought an Ariens.
    Some additional things, tho. You'll notice those predrilled holes in the deflector, those are for an optional "duckbill" extension that makes the deflector longer. He liked that feature so much he had one custom made for his Ariens.
    Also, I have to add, the place I moved into was once owned by an old lady who liked her lawn ornaments. Well, my Ariens "found" a little tiny frog made out of *concrete* and my shear pins failed to shear also. It stopped the machine dead. I'm certain I did significant damage to my gearbox, however, it did not fail and a few years on it is still working.
    Honda/Yamaha are probably the only brands where I don't see the shear pins ever failing to function, at least on the ones I've seen.

    • @pattayperformance
      @pattayperformance  Před rokem

      These aren't terrible machines as always there is worse out there! I do love the bucket extensions, could care less for the function but COOL factor has me pegged silly! The Mrs. sucke dup a brick in her Ariens 1128 and its still holding up well to this day. We tell customers for snow removal to make sure their driveway is clear before snow hits. When snow is here to make sure they got their newspaper! What is it with old people and lawn ornaments LOL? Sometimes less is more ; ) Yammies are very rare by me. Hondas dont't blow sheer pins they snap shafts!

    • @l337pwnage
      @l337pwnage Před rokem

      @@pattayperformance *OUCH!* I didn't hear about the shaft problem. Maybe that explains the new system Honda is trying. I saw a vid of a guy demonstrating an "electronic" protection system he was proud of on his Honda. He used wood to jamb up the auger and, at least what it looks like to me, is there appears to be a mechanical, probably spring loaded, dog clutch that breaks free when the auger is jammed, then a sensor detects that the protector has been activated at it kills the motor.
      Once you clear the jam, you use the start key to reset the motor and you're ready to go.
      Of course, for Honda's price tag, they can afford to create systems like that. ;)
      Ya, except for the tree branch problems, my friend was very happy with the Husqvarna's performance. He had the "duckbill" kit, and, IIRC, a factory "overdrive" kit installed.

    I was a bit shocked when you said to make sure the shear pins were tight. I was always toled that they should be slightly loose to allow them to break if the impeller hit an obstruction.

    • @pattayperformance
      @pattayperformance  Před 7 měsíci

      They are going to break reguardless. If you leave them loose they will deform the augers and form an egg shaped hole and if ignored even bigger to the point they snap. When I see excessive play in the augers from wrong sheer pins or improper installation, I have to pull the augers, weld them up and drill a new hole. I hope this makes it clear and I'm sorry I didn't mention it in the video!

    Thank you for sharing!! I have a different problem.... I have an older Husqvarna 10527STE snowblower in which I'm at a complete loss in regards to why it won't stay engaged while in drive. When under load of just 4" of snow, it won't stay engaged at all. I changed the drive friction rubber ring, drive / auger belts along with a new traction idler spring & bias spring to boot. In addition, I thoroughly lubricated metal parts including the steering assemblies. I thought for sure it was the rubber friction ring after seeing it was worn. The new rubber friction ring is making great contact against the drive wheel assembly therefore, I can't believe that's the issue. As for the belts & springs, they really didn't need changing but, I had the parts and did so anyway. The following video shows the power steering assembly disengaging / engaging which is happening on both sides simultaneously on its own without touching the steering triggers. Any thoughts for a remedy would sincerely appreciated Thanks again and Happy New Year!!

Right now I am working with my seat spring brackets so that I can scoot the seat back - Evidently John Deere back in 1968 thought everyone was short. I found a brand new set of seat sliders on eBay which should work well with the OEM seat springs. My goal is to make for a somewhat OEM look while making the seat more user friendly. It’s really amazing how strong that the old Cubs and John Deere garden tractors were for such small engines as compared to today’s products.
      Jason, Was it you that wanted me to post maybe a video of my S-24 Yazoo High Wheel mower with the 20 inch bicycle tires?
      I need to get it out and run it for a while and give it a good spray clean. The mower needs to be repainted to bring it back up to snuff as far as the appearance factor.
      I guarantee that my mower with the Predator engine would give any of the DR Brush Mowers some real competition with it’s 1/4 thick blade.

      Let me be clear on what you are saying. You have a Sears/Craftsman Single Stage Snow Blower that you put brand new rubber paddles on. The augers spin but it’s not throwing snow.
      It sounds like the augers aren’t spinning when you hit snow. It’s common practice on single stages when you replace the rubber paddles, you replace the scraper bar and belt too. Toro set the standard for that bc you buy it as a kit.
      Confirm my suspicions, if the auger stops spinning replace the belt or try and adjust tension on it via the cable.

    Not a bad machine, homeowner use really,, I wouldn't modify the impeller, those pins will sheer again much quicker (especially original ones) and the loading from your mod will significantly reduce belt life. Not to mention icing here on L.I causes issues and with no clearance its just gonna jam up even more.
    There are Dual Belt Auger drives that can handle your mod, those would be the machines to mod out IMHO>
    Nice quick mod & Repair, those holes look deceiving in size, with those bolts it should be good to go,,,Double nut or use some locktight, the impeller spins much faster, they may come off. (not a huge fan of Nylock on spinning things)
    BTW I've thought about making one flapper to add to one of my machines, less load and should be effective too.
    Next Year, I just cant bring myself to work on yet another snowblower lol

      Icing should never happen due to serrated augers choping it up. SHOULD be 101 to never to leave snow inside when done.

    Can anyone recommend a good snowblower to use with a gravel driveway?

      So technology has changed over time. Look up the company called Armor Skids. They turned a wheel machine into a viable machine to use on a gravel driveway. Traditional you needed a track drive (like a tank) bc it floats over. Due to armor skids you should be fine. We run Armor Skids on our machines and no issues with the 2 gravel driveways.
      Feel free to check out their info on CZcams as well.

    Looks like the impeller had set screws that hold it on the shaft loosen up . I have never seen a machine that the impeller was pinned to the shaft. Either way the build quality of newer machine is getting lighter and lighter and I mean that not in a good way. If the pins were meant to shear the machine ingested something large and hard. Maybe a piece of ice or a newspaper....

      The craftsman had roll pins...I checked the schematic on HUSKY and it had same sheer pins that hold the auger!
      You are correct my Man!

    What is so strange with destroying a shearpin? Did it on my 7k$ Yamaha once, without complaining it's a piece of shit;)

      Snowblowers for the longest time didn’t have sheer pins in the impeller.
      Also there are other factors as why this machine is a POS…I have other videos proving so.
      Yahmahas are rare on this neck of the woods so I can’t make a proper evaluation. Price means nothing Example…Maserati 😜
