    My 22 year old Tecumseh 10 HP was badly in need of a new carb. I’ve been an office worker/ trainer so, definitely not a mechanic. I watched your video yesterday and easily changed my carb. This aft I went with my cousin to by a used snow blower. Everything looked good, better than mine, but the owner (a relative) said that the belts might need some TLC. I just watched this, and the fear is gone. Although it worked well enough for the coming storm, and probably the season, it will make for a relatively easy summer job thanks to you. Merci mon ami.

    Instead of a stool I use a ratcheting tie down hooked onto the top edge of the auger housing and tied to a handle at the operators position. It makes it easier to get the bolt hole alignment "just right". If you tighten the tie down a bit before removing the bolts it takes the tension off the bolts and makes them easier to remove.

    last week's snow was heavy and wet in our area then the next day it went way below 0 F....my brother went to use his blower and as soon as he engaged the auger, the machine died......he wanted me to look at it but I told him it sounds like there is frozen snow in the auger and chute....i told him the keep it indoors and put a heater in front of it.....that solved his problem but luckily, unlike your customer, the belts didn't keep spinning or I would be doing this same repair...great job again Don

    This guy does GREAT videos. I ran into a couple differences; could be due to slightly different model of Deluxe 28. There were two bolts on each side to break the unit. I could not slip the belts off of the lower pulley. The pulley was too close to the housing. That required removing three bolts from the pulley face to remove it. Put the new belts in place and re-install the three pulley bolts. Easy enough.

    OEM belts are defiantly the way to go on these! The belts from when I bought the machine lasted about 4 years. I grabbed a few online saving $10 or so per belt. I didn't even get a season out of them, mid snowstorm belt changes are no fun! Got another set of OEM belts and its been good so far for the past 2 years (even survived snowmageddon in NL!)

    Don's old video "What to look for when buying a used snowblower" was right on the money... Me... I've been fortunate enough to obtain 3 free snowblowers in the past 14 months for my sons and I. Prior to last winter we didn't need any snowblowers but with moves into different houses, and the loss of my sons to help me shovel out my large driveway, it was time! I spent about $240 for parts, lubes and consumables... Skids for all three; scraper bar for one; carburetor and axle bushing for another; and the third one needed a new chute, belts, fuel line, tubes, spark plug, and a valve job due to a sticky exhaust valve. Obviously the third snowblower, which is quite old, was not something you would want to pay to have repaired and it was likely beyond the skills of many... However, it gave me a project for a day or so and, as I'm fond of saying, kept me off the streets and out of the bars. 😉 In the end we have three strong running machines that on their first outing, which lasted about two hours for each, did a great job. Thanks for the inspiration Don!

    • @canoetipper019
      @canoetipper019 Před 2 lety +7

      Back when I was a heavy equipment mechanic (seems like a lifetime ago...lol) we used Loctite Thread Locker on most fasteners. It didn't affect the torque requirements like a lubricant does and kept the fastener from vibrating loose. It also prevented rusting of the fasteners which made disassembly easier.
      When you put a lubricant on the threads of a fastener and then torque it to spec, you are actually over torquing it...unless the spec is for lubed fastener of course. We did use anti-seize in some cases...but rarely.
      Ah anti-seize...one of those products that a little (literally) goes a long way...get a small bit on your finger and it magicaly appears all over you...lol.

    • @donyboy73

    Many snow blowers are belt specific to the OEM belt due to the design of the pulley. I found this out with MTD. After market belts can be hit or miss concerning how they sit in the valley of the pulley. A belt that is too wide sits too high and can end up hitting the belt stop guide causing friction and burn the belt. The worse part of a burned belt is the rubber that builds up on the engagement pulley. I had to scrape the built up rubber off the pulley. The strings from the belt was wrapped around the pulleys and jammed the drive pulley so the wheels wouldn't even go.

    My belt pulley burned a hole in the plastic belt guard because the belt guard dipped toward it. After installing a new plastic belt guard, I also install a third belt guard screw at the top of the housing in addition to the regular bolts on the side of the housing. A short self-tapping hex bolt solved what I consider to be a design flaw. That plastic belt guard will eventually bend inward, rub against the pulley, and burn a hole in that plastic. It might take a few years but it will eventually happen!

    We need help to fix our snow blower, according to other opinions we need sheer pin to connect the Chute properly to the main part of blower machine.
    Is anyone can help us to do this, I'm willing to give reasonable pay.
