An idea for 4:07: Hold the belts together with a rubber band when tipping the auger housing toward the engine and drive assembly. That way they stay on the auger pulley without having to use one hand to hold them on while you're joining the two parts of the machine together.

Thank you for going to all the bother to post this video. Great instructions, and kept simple and to the point! At first glance, it looks like you could replace (at least the auger belt), without breaking the machine in half. That would make this MUCH easier, when dealing with older (rusted, banged up etc.), machines. Maybe Ariens would rather you have the Ariens Dealer perform the task……

Great video! As I changed my belts last year on my 25 year old Ariens ST8 I can attest that nothing has changed in regards to how to get it done. You did an excellent job on providing all the necessary steps.
I used genuine Ariens belts but they ended up being a tad too long. Enough that I couldn’t make as tight as I wanted when the tensioner was at full tension. It still works ok though. Next thing I’m considering is installing impeller shims to help it throw snow farther.

i changed the auger and drive belts on my craftsman track drive snowblower last year. The tricky part is finding the murrey part number that replaced the craftsman parts.
The auger belt was stretched so bad it wouldnt throw snow at all, but according to the manual it was made in 1988. belt life seems to depend on how much heavy snow it moves.
But still in great shape as it was always stored in a heated area.

One thing I struggled with was when you remove the old auger belts and re install the new ones. Jamming them between the welded nuts is unnecessary and is damaging the new belts on install. I simply removed the 3 small bolts holding the large belt pulley in place and it slid off easily.

theres no need to disconnect all those cables, just pop the shute off with the cables connected and set it aside, theres also no need to pull the front end of the machine off either. Remove the sparkplug to make engine rotation easy, turn the small pulley by hand to jump the belt onto the crankshaft pulley.

Hey Charlie some snowblowers have a locking mechanism on the impellers so I’m told. You may have to do some research on your model to see how to disengage it. I’m not totally sure how. Perhaps removing the belts? If that doesn’t work, perhaps start up the machine, run the impellers to see if you can spin them into the next drill position. Hope this helps. I have a Ariens 30 platinum sho model 921030 and changing the belts are a pain, not as easy as shown. The twin belts won't go on the double pulley bottom, you have to remove the double pulley to install the new belt. Also, the drive wheel belt won't go between the traction disc and pulley without removing the bottom belly pan and pull that belt in between and that could be a pain. also, the remote one lever chute is a pain to dismantle and reassemble. I like the machine it can through snow a good distance.

Thanks so much for this!! Is there a way this Canadian from Ottawa can donate a few bucks to buy you a drink? @Garage Gear (OK, tagging you doesn't seem to do anything). Fixing my clogged blower whose augerwasn't rotating saved this young father's bad back from a 3-car driveway after a fresh 10 inch overnight dump.
I just changed the belt on my really old (Craftsman sold by Sears, manufactured by Murray, which was acquired by in 2004 and now sold as Briggs & Stratton) snowblower I bought 3 Winters ago of questionable and unknown age (maybe from 2005?) and history, since I bought it from a random dude on the internet (he told me he's an eritred electrician, so handiness checks out).
Happy to say mine was a much easier arrangement inside! My drivegear is a chain, and my tension belt and wheel and pulley system is part of the rear half of the assembly, so I only had to manage one belt while changing the auger belt.
