if you watch this because it's annouced on steam ,i salute you !
yup lol
busted
lol so true
Enrique Coronado Díaz i allready bought it because i am trying something new, got bored of The Elder Scrolls Mass Effect and Dragon Age
Ichigo Okumura honestly this is the best way to do it. You get the console way cheaper and you have a massive back log of games to choose from. I wish I did this tbh.
I've been playing ff13 on the pc (been awhile though since I am super busy with school and work atm) and I think its way fun, people really over state how bad it is. Don't expect the world and make sure you read everything and you won't be confused. Keep in mind I am playing with japanese audio though because the english voice actors really are that bad.
Why do so many people hate Vanille. I really liked her.
Vanille is fiiiine. Hope is terrible.
Patrick Jonker because she is unbeiliveby murded sucide annoying
Not used to the animeish personality she has
Too much negative comments everywhere, but i'm still gonna play this game.
Good. Im glad you played it. I really enjoyed it. I think the art style is what gets me
11 years later and this is still my favorite Final Fantasy game and Lightning is still one of my favorite video game characters.
I though this game was pretty bad at first because of the characters and every thing but holy shit it gets good after chapter 6
this is my favorite review from gamespot. its so well done
Hope is worse at least veneil doesn't use a fucking boomerang.
Oh bitch, you just started a war. Hope and Vanille are badass. I love all characters, except Sazh.
Vanille's weapon is so weird, even in FF or even in RPGs,.
I like vanille, i never liked hope, all he does is bitch and complain. rikku was worse than vanille
I still can't get Liara T'Soni's voice out of my head when I hear Lightning talk.
I loved Vanille! She kept the group from spiraling out of control into a manic suicidal depression. plus, she's adorable!
This is my first Final Fantasy game I've played, and so far the reviews I mostly agree with. I love playing the game, really glad I got the PS3 version as the look is just gorgeous. Keen to play more these games, as I've become involved in the fanbase now.
This is my favorite game of all time. Absolutely phenomenal all the way around. Linear does not mean bad at all
One of my all-time favorite games. Sure I wish it was less linear and had an overworld with an airship and I wish that Hope did not exist as a character...but still an incredible game. The soundtrack is one of the best in the series too
agreed
YES!
i love this game.
+maziku People still trashing it to hell. :(
i liked vanille but hope he's sooooo annoying
Agree
+Richie Alarcón I don't hate Hope, but i do hate how Snow didn't try hard enough to save his mother. C'mon Snow would get into quicksand just to to see what started it. Snow is just misguided because the love of life is frozen.
Laharl D yes i agreed
I gave this game 10/10 once i mastered the paradigm shift system.
would the game give you a 10/10?
What's with all the hate? I love it. The graphics, combat, story and soundtrack is great! Don't forget, it's from 2009...
so some 90s games are soooo much better than this trash who cares if its from 2009
Brinley Triggers Me this game is from 2010
It's still pretty good. Graphically as well. I'm on my 6th playthrough
It's far from the best but it's an enjoyable game. The leveling system is not good, but better than the one in 10. The story is good enough and the graphics are amazing. it's way to linnear, it doesn't have to be a big sandbox open world but holy shit this takes the price(hence why i enjoyed 13-2 so much more). the battle system is enjoyable and the people who say that autobattle is the key to victory is wrong, that only works if you are way overleveled. i actually like the characters even if some have their overly-whiny moments. It's simply ok, i like the story, but i would pick 13-2 over this any day for the gameplay.
LOL lvling system in FF 10 was the best in all of the FF games. You Actually had to plan your progress , not just mindlessly level . Plz dumbing down the franchise killed it and you can see it reflected in sales of 13 part 2. Nobody likes this shit.
Well for me it felt tedious. i personally prefer the leveling system that FF4 and kingdom hearts have. but i'm that kind of guy who mostly play games for the story. i don't mind level grinding but i don't want to be "punished" for picking the wrong stats etc. :)
DgonePlays
wha... its impossible to fuck up...if you're just going to play trough without getting secrets... any path was ok for casual playthrough.
You couldn't possibly mess it up.
It would reward you on the other hand for putting the time into planning it.
Especially important if you were going to take on the dark aeons etc.
Sorry for assuming you're a 100% completion type of player, got little bit ahead of meself.
Well to be fair, i didn't really have a problem until i met Seymour for the last time. I get why people enjoy it and pherhaps i would too if i just took the time to get into it. i really haven't played the ps2 FF's too much and i really feel like i should :)
XIII-2 had a better open world and party system, but the story was a big downgrade from FFXIII. Even though XIII's story sucks to most people at least they made an effort.
This game is always my litmus test for whether a reviewer can be trusted or not. If they downplay the linearity of this game, they can't be trusted.
It's more than the fact that the map is more or less a straight line until Chapter 11. You control which roles for each character gets the stat boosts but you don't control which stat gets it. It goes in a predetermined order. And each "level" acts as a cap. That is, once you reach Level 2, you can't go past Level 2 until the game wants to let you go past Level 2 (usually after you change control from one character to another during the story and then return to that character).
Some enemies can only be defeated by certain combinations of paradigms. For example, in the video, the player was fighting three monsters that self-destruct as one of their attacks. Just as in any other battle, if all three of your characters die in this battle, you lose. You NEED to have someone in Sentinel to stand a chance; they're the only ones to defend against this attack well enough for the team. This isn't exactly puzzle-solving; this is guess-and-test.
The entire game is a straight line, not just the exploration. If someone tells you to wait until Chapter 11 of this 13-chapter game because "that's when it gets good", that person has a poor grasp on reality.
Still better than lost odyssey.
Christopher Medina Lost Odyssey is so far beyond the travesty that is Final Fantasy XIII. It's ACTUALLY a game, not a theme park.
Guess and test is fun, at least I learn something in the end. The linear maps however are just boring.
Do you like FF 10? if you do then you have no excuse to hate on 13 for linear
I pray to god 15 returns to their roots. It died after 10 for me.
I honestly thought 12 was pretty good.
Alex Petroski
Brett EC
Well that escalated quickly.
***** yup. That was uncalled for.
Brett EC Boo hoo, somebody on the internet likes a video game I don't like!
this game is so much better than ff15
hey what ever floats your boat. Games are designed for someone somewhere to have fun with. Glad you like it. I got bored myself but everyone is different.
Because it has actually good story, character development, lore and is not filled with boring repetitive sidequests. Not to mention is has far superior art style.
I agree I'm replaying 13 again after 15. The lack of story and character development really made me disinterested in 15 :/
I dunno. I really loved both my top ff games are inbetween these two xd.
im trying to find a honest review for FFXIII anyone know where to look
search for "spoony experiment" and final fantasy xiii. Check his 5 part review. Its hilarious because its true.
Independent, amateur reviewers. Shit like GameSpot & IGN would sell their mothers for a buck.
@@TheLlamaD spoony is full of shit
FFXIII gets alot of shit. I'm sorry FFXIII wasn't a carbon copy of games we've seen in the past. The plot was focused people thrown into a situation where they were basically guilty by association with an underlying theme that shapeshifters had infiltrated and manipulated human government. It was a huge conspiracy. You were on the run and in no way in that game did I feel like they could chill out and explore a town, when they tried it ended badly.
Final Fantasy XII was much more open than Final Fantasy XIII but I also feel like the story, gameplay and dialouge are dull as shit in XII by comparison. I loved the on the run feel within XIII and the game did open up and have a slew of endgame content. I wish the sequels never existed but that's about it
FFX and it's towns were linear as fuck and I love that game. After the first 18 hours and you get to pulse there are much more open areas and parts that branch out more than. You were just trying to survive, you were branded with dark powers and intended to be a destroyed against your will by beings trying to play puppet master. This is coming from a guy with about 400 hours on both FFX and FFXIII, respectively. Why am I comparing FFX to FFXIII? Because so many of the "problems" people have with XIII can be found in X.
The first few hours of FFVII is a few slashes and an occasional potion and bolt. Because the opening of FFXIII gets so much shit for it.
Again, sequels were absolute garbage because FFXIII had no cliff hanger, only because I was really attentive to that universe you actually find out that there were hundreds to thousands of Fal'Cie shapeshifters lodged within the human government aside from Barthandalus. They could've had humans and Fal'Cie continue to fight and obscure the whole concept of the purge around until that fight drew the attention of the creator like the Fal'Cie intended to do with Ragnarok. Buuut. They didn't.
To be completey fucking honest I like the original FFXIII more than FFX and I fucking love FFX. I couldn't compare FFVII to FFXIII until I see an HD remake, FFVII had more exploration but only because the world allowed it.
I agree pretty much with this entire review. Yes the linearity does get really frustrating (especially that very LONG segment in the middle) but I liked the story, combat, and the game really is gorgeous. If I had to give it a score it's be like an 8.5 or something like that.
The new age FF-s are so much worse then the old ones!!!!
I hope Zerg come and infest this new FF-s characters or the Dark Eldar come and torture them!!!!!
LIMB BY LIMB!!!!!!!!!!
FF7 all the way, also FF9 and FFX all the way!!!!!
I hate the nostalgic gamers who say everything was better on older systems, but i agree with you this series is dying a death at this point
TheSilverPhoenix100 I am not thrashing new games...I judge every game equal!!!
Facts are facts...I am not some stupid hipster that thrashes something because he likes to thrash!!!!
Domagoj Kersun oh no wasnt saying you were, just saying i see alot of that online
TheSilverPhoenix100 I know you did not...I was just saying!!!
Yeah...I also hate people who thrash something because they like to thrash!!!
Cheers and be well!!!
+Domagoj Kersun Why are you skipping 8? Its different to the others - much more sombre - but still absolutely amazing.
Mind. Blown.
I've been hearing this guys voice for years and never even considered that it had a body.
@MagnesiumAlloy Did you get to the point where you can switch paradigms? For me the first 5 hours or so sucked but after you get paradigms it gets super fun
Can't believe this is 10 years old. Finally going to pick it up!
enjoy it's a beautiful game , and graphics still hold up only thing they could have worked was on first 20-25 hours that's little slow rest is amazing especially when whole party unites. also Hawkeye is best weapon for hope, max it fast !
im trying to get the gamerscore/trophy where you fully develop all chars but i havnt got it do you need ult wpns too?
im not a big rpg fan
i think i have bought 1 straight rpg
but im wondering is this a good game because i have to many Fps, third person action/shooter games and im getting bored so im probably going to try this
but is this a good yumping on spot for RPGS?
@daowsley damn, I completely forgot that X was linear! so true, the sphere grid is more open, but the crystarium is nothing to complain about right? and I really think that 12 was the one that was totally different from the rest
A very good review... a professional gamer indeed you are sir Kevin VanOrd... every game review that you review is really good.. you can tell every details of the games has to offer bad or good... keep it up sir
one of the most underrated games ive ever played in my life
Did this one end too with a TO BE CONTINUED? i wanna buy this but i don't want an opne final like the 13-2.....
is there anything more ot this game than corridors and arena battles? cuz I don't mind arena battles, but don't love them. And I never played ff before, and I know the stor eis a huge part of it, will I still like this game? It looks pretty cool actually.
@FullMetal423 um equipment, upgrading?
Ok thanks :)
Could you tell me what is a good Final Fantasy to start with?
This my personal favorite Final Fantasy. I just remember of playing this for the first time since its launch :).
I just love this game
Does anyone know if there are paticular areas int he game where you can actualyl go swimming and not be blocked by some sort of invisible wall?
@JonGre93 great list there! thanks ive got infamous and uc2!! what about games like leveling up parties, tactical shit.. hahaha all im playing now's battlefield2 and 2k11.. lol.. thanks again!
@crystalocean98 did you play the whole game? he actually becomes optimistic later in the story.
@Altaranalt Seifer is from Final Fantasy VIII, he's a cameo in KH2.
5:53
"...but for the most part, you are always moving forward" - Lightning turns to the left -
LOL
in what chapter do you get Fang?
uhhh yer and i forgot to say that the first few hours of game play is just about hitting the X button and watching long long cut-scenes except for that i was only cached by the action scenes and they took allot of RPG elements out of the game so its even harder to make a tactic/strategy before going against things like bosses and what i prefer to call them mini bosses (aka strong enemies that you maybe don't have to face but are in fact stronger then what you have fought that place you are)
anyone know if you can get back to orphan''s cradle- the tesseracts? once you finish the game
@tsavxyooj not sure about new copies, sry. it shouldn't matter unless you get the 360 version used, then you'd be screwed. ps3 used i haven't had trouble. 360 i check the disc as soon as i get it.
@vanabe Is this game really that bad? Have you played any other games in the Final Fantasy series? I've played FF 7,8,9 and 10. I really enjoyed 7-9 but not really FF10, Would you recommend this game for me? Or is it just crap compared to 7-9? Sry for my bad english
I thought Vanille was a nice character. I liked her relentless optimism, it was almost inspiring.
@Volviert how much $ is it on PS3?
Final Fanatasy XII was the last one in the series that I actually looked foward to (excluding the online one which I never have or will play)
@smbz821
Even i had trouble fighting with the paradigms in some bosses. But if u had the ff13 guide book, that helps why some character combinations just dont work out like Lightning, vanille and sazh (which i first used). When i played the game again with lightning, fang, and hope, almost all the battles i did was 5 star rating.
ANd the surprising thing was i killed orphan in less than 8 min, and its second form in 30 sec. (you may think i did a lot of grinding i didnt).
I really liked this review. I think it was thoroughly fair and that saw the game for what it is.
i just got a ps3 not too long ago, i have god of war 3 and red dead.... im thinking should i get this? i enjoyed the past final fantasy games... but my fren says i should wait for the ff versus game...
Is this game worth getting? Is it like oblivion and borderlands and fallout?
Nuff said, this reviewer deserves a cookie! or a medal, if I had one! :)
@95zachman They really arent that blurry at all but i noticed its a little sharper on the ps3.
anyone know if you can get back to orphan''s cradle- the tesseracts?
@gothix114 But it's a fantasy game that put a time limit on it's character, the party will get turned into C'ieth unless the focus is completed. So it makes sense there is a feel of rush along the game.
@chubs54 In terms of the length of cut-scenes, I mean.
@alexn168
ah okay, I get what u mean and I agree. I love to explore, though exploring with random battle encounter can be annoying. When there r 3 routes in a dungeon I always wanna see all of the 3 and Im alwaysa fraid of hitting the wrong one first but still yeah, dungeons shouldnt be too linear. still im excited about this game and I will try it somewhen
I don't understand what the story is can someone explain please? Also what is a pulse?
I love this Trilogy so much!!!! Lightning is my personal favourite character in the first two games, in the third one she's alittle too wooden for my liking, so she is second place in front of Hope there
@OnTheToiletBeyotch Glade someone understands!!
@darthvaderken what about if you never played a ff game? would i like it?
I love this game but about 11 hours in my copy of ff13 freezes when I activate a cutscene :(
I have a 360 and the cutscenes aren't blurry at all they're great.
about how many hours for the first playthrough?
@lobothesacred3 I want square enix to create battle systems that don't clutter up the screen with too much words and numbers during game play. To get a clearer example of what i'm talking about, you'd have to play Mass Effect &Fable, and then compare them to FF13 and other jrpg's.
I love this game and vanille is not annoying but I do notice the bit of blurryness on the 360 graphics but only during the cut scenes
You know you can adjust the setting to make it manual, right? Just go to your settings and you can adjust how you want to execute your attacks.
@Zalfazar orange box rocks man! one of my prized possessions haha great list, imma check out borderlands. :) thanks!
Fave part in the whole game. "You okaay?" "Oh yea, I'm GREAT." xD
my favortie character was the bird thing (havent played Final Fantasy in a while, so i forget the names of creatures) in that guys hair.
@Dreamztha
Chapter 11 in the game gives you a lot of side quests but who really will spend so much time on grinding through 6 roles in each character and finish titans quest? Eventually 80% of the people just leave half way through the side quest and at best get all the roles filled for each character.
The linearity in maps actually helps you level up in some places especially in chapter 9. Also, even though its linear each chapter takes at least 4-5 hours to finish.
how long is this game
@441meatloaf i do have a PS3. but i got the 360 version. my best friend got the PS3 version. yes the PS3 version does have slightly better textures but its nothing to write home about. i do agree with you that the CGI cutscenes are the only thing that separates them apart. they where definitely compressed on 360 FFX on PS2 looked better than that. other than that i saw no difference. other than one is one disc and the other is multiple. and i wouldn't say it looks WAY better just slightly
@axel5735 I am not new to Final Fantasy (Played VII, VIII, X, and a little of IV and XII), and I am also not an avid Final Fantasy fan, though I do love the series. So does that mean I am an adolescent with horrible grammar, considering I find Final Fantasy XIII to be my favorite game ever (previously it was Dragon Quest VIII)?
Personally, I didn't find the battle system monotonous at all. Sure, lots of pressing X (yep, PS3 for me), but that's a lot of games anyway. Can't play a game without
I like how the opening clip is of Lightning kicking ass and then all of a sudden they play elevator music.
A great review from gamespot.......surprisingly.
you totally should, because this way you'll sooner or later be underleveled and then the fights arent boring anymore. and if you can still keep up, try long gui or even vercingetorix (but that one takes some work to get to)
@DragonHunterX Exactly
the first cutscene is SO SICK
@DragonHunterX I meant Mainly
@Dannyboyyay I liked it, but not on a serious note. It did not have the prestige on the first.
@lobothesacred3 i think that a detailed menue system is ok for turn based rpg's, but action rpg's and hybrid rpg's doesnt need so much detail in the battle menue system.
@Regal4point1 Yeah, and why's that you think?
@Knight2321 what storyline?! There's so much they didn't explain. Like wtf happened before the War of Transgression?
@triciag10 Uhmm..... Yes,
@yoyoyo88665 I dig what you're shoveling, partner. I think it comes down to you have a higher opinion of the game than I do. I enjoyed it, but thought it was subpar to the earlier games (although I realize that it's difficult with a series like this to live up to the previous games).
I'm really LOVING this game!! And I'm only 2 hours in!!!
Ill give this one a try tonight.
@Regal4point1 I meant gameplay wise, and yea the only benfit that has is once again, combat.
If i haven't played any Final Fantasy games before, nor any J-RPGs, is FF XIII a good game to start with? I like rpgs but im not sure about japanese ones.
@randy25rhoads It's your opinion I guess. But I really believe if linearity doesn't bother you, and if you TURN OFF auto battle (and make use of the repeat command) and if you take your sweet time with the game and you try to enjoy everything, I think everyone would appreciate. I just think SE shot themselves in the foot by making the default settings as: no subtitles, auto-battle and they didn't let people know about the "repeat" command either.
You've played a lot of this series too? Currently, i am in possession of every single one (with the exception of some branches and 11). I can honestly say I've mastered this series.
vanille wasnt irritating her perk was a great addition to the game
why do they always hate the happy/peppy ones? they're just so darn cute
@MashedAvacado me 2 lol i just bought it.i couldnt resist since its so cheap XD. hopes its good.
@daviddaaannggg I dont think the menue system should be abandoned either. And I also dont think the gameplay should be dumbed down to just simple button mashing. For me personally, I just wish that jrpg's would just "tone down" their in game battle menue system a bit. jrpg's are beautifully produced games, and a lot of fun to play. I just wish that what I see on screen isn't blocked by too much "words & numbers." Visually, I wanna appreciate what I see on screen without words getting in the way
1:18 : Fun, flashy battles and GORGEOUS visuals.
1:54 : Lightning, the BEAUTIFUL and resolute hero.
2:46 : Final fantasy XIII is GORGEOUS.
6:56 : Plus, it looks absolutley BEAUTIFUL.
This guy's vocubulary is GORGEOUS, just BEAUTIFUL. ;3
I'm sure this is going to be a great game! 8D
