This is actually a really well written/made review. Didn't just stick to superficial stuff like graphics/audio or the basic combat system but actually went deeper to explain it in detail. nice!
A year later, but I disagree with you. To many allegories and inside joke symbology.. he needs to talk normal and stop taking queues from his creative writing class. In other words.. he clouded his points with bullshit information.

DigimonVids I know I will get roasted, but XIII became my favorite. It used to be VIII, cuz squall is so cool, but damn I just felt in love with lightning. And besides, a game that has 2 lesbian lovers is a win in my book.
@DIgimon Vids, this game is what made XIII look like an indie game if you ask me, you cant go from massive sky cities and and giant free roaming dungeons to "corridors the game" in less than one iteration, XIII will always be the inferior of XII no matter what you say.
I feel sick just looking at this game. Worst Final Fantasy of all.

KrazyBean14 good rpg with wonderful diverse environments. But the story and the characters are missing. Very bland at best.

Pros:
-gambit sytem is a beast. because it encourages trial and error. when u thought u already mapped out ur gambit, and when u go try it out, there are things u missed, status ailment u didnt cover. so u learn from that battle and prepare back the gambit (tactics) for next encounter. because of this learn by mistakes approach, late in the game ur gambit is a masterpiece, covering all probabilities and can cleared up enemies while making sure ur party are all in nearly full health. its a good lunch discussion among ur peers who played the same game on how each other can improve their gambits (tactics). so no, it is not action oriented because u usually prepare ur fight way before the actual fight takes place
-hunt monsters. in the game u have this side quests where u can hunt monsters. u go to a hunting board in the town, where u can take job of hunting one specific monster. the monster has grades (level of difficulty) and u earn sigil (money) by killing them and reporting back. i still remmber one of the few jobs are hunting a rogue tomato. basically a tomato has gone rogue so u need to kill it (hilarious!). the hunting job is so satisfying, that i dont bother progressing the storyline. after finish my current hunt, i cant wait to take another job and another. but ofc at certain point u'll be underlevel so the story must be continue first
-the world is beautiful. one of the cities that later u visit is a city on the sky. it is beautiful, with the town layout and sky view. u'll also visit fran's (the sexy chewbacca) city. it is a lushful forest with treetop houses. yup, the world that they created is magnificent.
-much more i want to talk about but just 3 pros already takes alot of space
Cons:
-like any other japanese rpgs, it is SLOW. u'll have this few stages that act as tutorial and it is LONG. not to mention cutscenes and storytelling. if u're the kind of guy who put on a game and directly wanted action, nope this is not the game for u. but if u're ready to invest ur time and being immersed in the world, u'll come to a right place.
KrazyBean14 I really love the combat system on XIII/XIII-2 the best. I haven't played this game before but I love final fantasy so I'll try it out. I'm absolutely in love with the music in Final Fantasy games

marda379 For me, FFX isn't even in my top 5. Honestly I enjoyed playing FF4, FF5, FF6, FF7, FF9, and maybe FF12 (need to go back and replay it to be sure) better than FFX. FFX has one of the best battle systems though, no doubt about that.

FF15 is only a map. The older Final Fantasy games are all whole planets, except FF10 which is linear
FF15 has a world called eos with i think 4 or 5 kingdoms. Lucis, Niflheim, Tenebrae, Solheim....it is actually really big, but the game only showed pieces of three of those kingdoms. (Solheim wasn't even in the game)
it also is a copy and past jobs for deserts and dungeons, that being said the largest area of ff15 is duscae and that although not copy and paste is very much a similar looking zone through and through
Thank god they changed Vaan's abs. In the original game they always reminded me of a rat's hard palate.
I played this as a kid and loved the story but hated the combat system. Now that I'm older, have more experience gaming, and am a huge mmo fan I feel like this is the best time to try this game out again

nmacinnesnm the gambit system is so good! if you are a fan of mmo's you will love this, plus the new zodiac job system looks really fun
It actually ages very well, especially with the improvements. I for one enjoyed the gambit system back then, and I fell in love even more with the game now that I've matured and improved when it comes to strategies and tactics with gambits.
I actually love the combat system in ff12.
This is the ONLY main FF title I have not beaten. I'm excited to try again.

Steve Ozone Underrated? It got really high scores back in the day including a 40 from Famitsu if I remember correctly.
underrated by the users, a lot of people bashed this game because of the gambit sistem and the story, them square did the opposite with XIII and we all suffered the consecuences

This game finally gets the love it deserves. It's in my top 3 favorite Final Fantasies of all time. FF8, FF10 and FF12. The combat system is still to me the best in the series.

It is so weird to see how much praise FF12 is getting lately when it was blasted by so many people back in the day. 12 has always been one of my favorites, so it is great to see it getting so much love now. It really was ahead of its time and it is great to see games like FFXIV and FFXV taking inspiration from it.
Dont want to give spoilers because many haven't played it, but I really like the down to earth story that 12 has, and it has a great villain. Granted the villain isn't some sorceress from another dimension or a Jenova infused psychotic super solider, but their motivations are all too human; and i would go so far as to say sympathetic. Which in my estimation makes him a better villain for it.....and the Judges are some of the best bosses in FF history.

I have been asking for this game for so many years. People kept telling me that they would never remake it because no one liked it. I loved this game and I am so pumped to get the game this week

Never played it and I'm super excited to pick this up.
FF12 was my first intro to FF back in 2006! I loved the cat lady in high heels and the Gambit System.
It's been nostalgic playing it all over again... I do love the world of Ivalice. One of Square's gems.
Never played this one, but the satisfaction of using the Gambit system mentioned in the review reminds me of how satisfying it was to find the perfect paradigm combos in FFXIII :)
I think I will pick this one up today.

I hate to think that many players used to hate this game on its original. I guess i'm just one of the few who appreciated the game back then, And will do so more now.
I remember playing this as a kid on PS2 and I loved it, unfortunately I lent it to a friend and never saw it again so I was super stoked when I found out that they were remastering it so I pre-ordered it as soon as I could, can't wait to play it :).

Gambit system was hated when ff12 came out. Now its hailed as a great battle system
I didn't use the gambit system much when the game originally came out. I was too young to understand it's full potential. After clocking in over 1400 hours on Dragon Age Origin's on the hardest difficulty, I've really came to understand the value of gambit systems and I can't wait to take full advantage of this one. :D

I remember playing XII about a decade ago....and being captivated by it. I stopped playing when I had to grind a significant amount of time to be able to keep up to the enemies. Is this still an issue in The Zodiac age?
The story and characters are much closer to The Hidden Fortress (the Akira Kurosawa film that inspired Star Wars) rather than Star Wars...

The boss fights were amazing. Especially the late game ones, they were ludicrously difficult.
I never beat this game, yet i adored the combat, i was a massive fan of Tactics, which is set in the same world... i loved the world and how they made it feel like an offline MMORPG. At the time this came out i was utterly addicted to EverQuest Online Adventures on PS2, which is likely why i never beat the game XD then life just... went on like it always does. Now i'm taking the opportunity to go back, i already know it plays very well, but now it looks incredible and it has added goodies!? I'll take 1 ticket to Ivalice please!
Game just arrived at my parents' house today and I left there 2 days before because I study abroad (far far away on the other side of the planet).

I have this for the ps2, I never really got past the part where you play as Reks. That is until I played this remake! This is definitely a MUST PLAY!!! My final verdict, even when I have only gotten about a couple hours into the game, is: 10/10

He left due to an ulcer or a nervous breakdown. Never went back to work for Square full time. It shows.

Now, can we please have Nintendo 3DS 3D remakes of Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI, akin to the ones (FFIII & FFIV) on the Nintendo DS?
I remember when Square-Enix stated that they would make these remakes depending on how well received the Nintendo 3DS is amongst fans. Well, over five years later with over 70 million units sold-to-date... I, along with several thousand FFV and FFVI fans, are still waiting.

I don't think they improved the comprised voice audio that makes all characters sound muffled... oh well doubt that had the original voice tracks any more to even fix the problem they made when keeping XII on one PS2 disc.
the best game ever, FFXII was ahead of time, graphic quality is awesome until now, so many contends, details, quests, itens, everything, exploration was the key. The Gambits are the most intelligent A.I i've seen in my life. FFXII is beyond perfection.

I borrowed this from a friend back when it first came out. Back then I didn't appreciate what it was and lost interest after only a few hours. Now that I am older and have played through countless RPGs I cant wait to truly experience this for the first time for real. I just need to finish Trails of Cold Steel first lol

I have waited soooooo long to play this forgotten gem of a game once again! I tried to re play it 2 or so years ago and i couldn't do it due to the fact it looked terrible and actually gave me headaches on my big hd tv. This is great news!
I downloaded this on emulator for the ps2 to play again because the voiceover was majestic. Now remaster and i might buy it just for the enhamcements and new features. This is along ass game and top of that a challenging one so much stuff in it.

Sweet holy Chocobo! This is like a brand new game running on the ps5 and that war intro? Good gravy it's super smooth 🤩 I'm in love all over again even in 2021 it's still a phenomenal game, 13 seriously needs the ps5 treatment!

Ilove the job system, PS2 version allowed everyone to be everything. This one gives more uniqueness to each character
