I just finished the game, and I have never been excited, never cried this much, and never been so impressed in a videogame that really pushes the boundaries of what a spectacle it is. I am absolutely wrecked, and didn't expect any less from the team behind FFXIV.

I played the demo and instantly pre ordered it. I haven't been this excited for a Final Fantasy game since Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Honestly the only game that deserves 10/10 in the world i think is persona 5/royale and it was released at the same year as botw but zelda have to win everything cus only the real gamers can appreciate a game like persona.

Persona 5 is the most amazing game ever. I think Baldurs Gate 3 is gonna be right there with it just a different setting and timepiece.
I think this game is obviously absolutely great but not a masterpiece like Persona 5 Royal or what I think Bladurs Gate 3 is going to be.
Also the Yakuza games are wonderful like 0, 7 and Judgement!

Game developers pay for their reviews nowadays.
I'm mostly a pc gamer and this game made me want to buy a ps5 to play it, finish it, and have no regrets. That should tell you something. It is a masterpiece of storytelling, such a breath of fresh air, and I liked the combat too.

@@davicito4841 Glad you liked it, but after following its development from its Versus XIII days, XV was a huge disappointment for me. Especially how they handled the story.
15 was a worse product but honestly equally fun as 16. 15 was over ambitious and 16 was under ambitious imo.

I'm glad that I wasn't the only one who caught that. Man.... I've waited 15-20 years since FFX came out to play this game. I went from PS2 to PS5 and only got the PS5 for THIS game.
The game is amazing it's absolutely gorgeous the combat works, it feels fresh and new, the cutscenes her perfectly timed, a truly epic tale, I never played final fantasy games but I pre-ordered this and I haven't been dissatisfied
Long story short: it’s the first Final Fantasy in a long time that will remind you why you started loving Final Fantasy.
- Dialouge is spot on
- VA are spot on
- Graphics are beautiful
- Combat is super fun
- Story is very interesting so far
- Music is absolutely outstanding
so aside from a few frame drops here and there (that now I don't mind anymore):
9.5/10 for me - God I love this game!

@@reedified6514 I sometimes play on graphics mode and got used to it very quickly. It's also more stable in graphics mode. The game looks absolutely gorgeous even in performance mode, so maybe it's your TV or something?
Was talking to Lorath in Diablo 4 and suddenly I heard his voice from the FFXVI trailer. Turned out Ralph Ineson voiced both Lorath and Cidolfus, what a coincidence!
I have a feeling that Lorath is going to be in a lot more games going forward.

Played the demo and it was brilliant and the fact that progress carries over to the main game from the demo defo picking this up. The game has a much darker tone which is what makes it stand out

Best Boss fights ive ever played in my life, the Eikon fights are godly.
I’m only part way through the game, but every Eikon fight is so epic it feels like it could be a final boss battle!
I very much dislike that people think that "darker" makes things better somehow. People don't mention emotion like bright or happiness to explain something to be amazing.
This game is arguably top 3 in the franchise… and in this case darker worked to near PERFECTION!

Darker is better. Mystery is more intriguing, more interesting.
It is... because life is dark, filled with moments of happiness that make it worth it. Any media or art that portrays life as silly and happy is ridiculous and unrelatable. People enjoy "dark" stories because they're relatable. We live in some of the best times in history, and even we have to contend with the loss of loved ones, embarrassment, bullying, competition etc. But all of those experiences make us better people, and wiser people.
Now imagine other times. Times of war, times of poverty etc. To tell dramatic stories (which every game/movie does) and not make it darker than real life feels so empty and fake. There is a place for Disney movies, but they also have dark themes and are a lot more silly and goofy to make them light hearted for kids. But Disney movies don't claim to be some form of high art, they're simply family entertainment with shallow themes to entertain the adults a bit while the kids get some basic moral lessons in the form of entertainment.
Final Fantasy is BACK baby! And better than ever!
Revolutionary for the series! The only thing that could have made this game better is a fleshed out multiplayer and a open world, maybe playable party members too but this is the first step in the right direction to revive the series!
So they took the FF9 rout and made summons a major part of the story..... nice
Sekiro, God of war, Bloodborne, DMC V and now FF XVI. The top 5 games with the best melee combat i have ever played.
Happy that I preordered this after playing the demo.
For people who don't know. Square Enix already acknowledged and addressed the framerate issue. Many problems will be fixed in the Day-1 patch 1.03+ (Demo was version 1.01) but the biggest fps fix will be a post launch patch, if options to turn off Motion Blur and so on. My guess is patch will drop after 1-2 weeks, so if you want the full FF16 experience, just wait a bit. Also @DigitalFoundry will surely make a in-depth video of how the performance of FF16 is.
will they also fix the terrible motion blur in quality mode?

It's better to have a performance mode which is struggling to hit a perfect 60 but will be improved with each subsequent patch rather than having no performance mode and players skipping on the game. I remember when witcher 3 came out, it was struggling to hit a stable 30 but after a couple of patches, witcher 3 ran at a locked 30. A lot of games run at a locked/stable 60 after a couple of patches. The people saying don't release 60 fps performance mode because it's struggling are mostly pc players who want devs to give console players a barely playable experience with terrible input latency (30 fps) so that the game plays best and shines on their high end gaming pc. Those people want developers to treat console players as 2nd class citizens and prioritize development on pc. Higher fps reduces input lag and makes combat more satisfying😎

DF published today I think. TLDR was that the game looked great over all but did struggle in performance mode, it had a weird effect where during combat the game would cap its resolution but resulted in a true locked 60fps, but then as soon as combat ended the res would un cap and the fps would freak out again. It feels like performance mode is maybe another patch or 2 away from what it should be. But it’s not as bad as some people are claiming.

I just got my PS5 yesterday with the FFXVI bundle and the game is absolutely amazing. From the story to the combat, it's fantastic so far.
I would’ve preferred if this review didn’t have so many moments highlighting specific story cutscenes that weren’t in the demo but overall still an awesome review! Super excited for the game!

I stopped watching another review because of spoilers. Came back to this one after finishing the demo section and decided to stop for the same reason.
What really frustrates me about these newer Final Fantasy games is not that they aren't good, it's that they are good, great even, and I love them... but I can't help but still feel the loss of the traditional Final Fantasy game, and the success of these games makes me feel like we will never go back to that. So, I am caught in a place where I am frustrated that the games they are making are so good, but are still not quite what I am wanting them to be. I would really love to see them take the franchise and split it. One branch making these new, more linear, action games. The other, a turn-based, super open world, more exploration-heavy game... with AIRSHIPS in it again. God, I miss the excitement of getting your first airship mid-game. The flying mod to the car in XV just didn't quite pull that off. I do like the more mature approach though for both game types. Sadly, I know I am wishing for something not likely to ever happen.
I for one miss the JRPG genre, its hard with everything blending into an "action RPG" game.
@jasondavis2945 Agreed! I feel like it's a genre that the industry has decided can't sell just because they think action has a wider appeal, but in reality, it's just begging for a new game. Kind of like how the industry decided survival horror was dead.... then Capcom made Reaident Evil 7 and was like, "Oh! People actually buy this game if we stick to the genre that made it popular in the first place. Who knew?". Aside from the millions of gamers screaming it at them... that they just ignore.
I think they already are no? Didn't ff7remake come out? I'm betting you liked that one, and it's still ongoing with more releases on the way probably. I think this was a special case of the creators of ff14 making this one, and thus why you see a bunch of MMO elements in it. And they brought in the DMC guy to make a good action game. I'm not sure if we'll have both down the line, however in any case I will be happy, this game was a masterpiece, and I find it hard to complain about a masterpiece, even if it's different from what I'm used to
@Explicitnice If you think that the FFVII Remake fits my description, then you didn't read it very well. I did love it, though. I love almost all the FF games... almost. I just miss the older, turn based, more exploration heavy, open world, style. FF7 Remake was not that.
@@Draidis Unfortunately turn based is a dying breed. People don't have the attention span for it anymore. The other parts I agree with, there's no reason to argue against FFXVI being a more fleshed out game, as much as I enjoy it. Hopefully ff17 will be that and we can both enjoy it.

One thing I really miss is the tactical part of controlling a full party, each with their own roles, controlling that team work to get the best out of it. Honestly hope to see that back again in future versions.
We had enough of that, it's time for this franchise to let the past go (as they did with almost each game) and be an action rpg like ff16

FFVII Remake on Hard difficulty has the best combat system EVER for an action rpg IMHO almost soulslike in how perfectly crafted it was. Wish the hard difficulty was unlockable without beating the game on normal first thou.
I sorta wish this im 40 hours in and havent died yet the combat is insanly fun tho so I will go to NG+ FFmode

I was ridiculously skeptical of this, after two decades or so of being repeatedly burned by this franchise (I’m not counting FF7R), but I’m coming away very impressed. It might be my favorite FF since X, which admittedly isn’t a very high bar to cross, but I’m just glad to be excited about Final Fantasy again.
The combat’s fun and fast-paced, and the narrative feels like a combination of the best parts of Game of Thrones, Berserk, Attack on Titan, Evangelion, Dragon Age, the Witcher, and even some Naruto, Bleach, and Dragon Ball sprinkled in there. There’s times when I get “Tales of…” vibes from it too.
Isn't a high bar to cross??? X is one of the most unbelievable games ever made everything about that game is perfect almost no game in existance offers as much as that game haha

Just beat this game today. One of my favorite games ever!! It was fantastic and couldn't have expected such an amazing game. The soundtrack was fantastic as well
Still not sure why this is an exclusive. Square complains about "not having a market" and then doesn't give it an opportunity to grow. Look at Persona: those games got surprise Xbox releases, and now the company had a bunch of announcements at the Xbox showcase, which indicates to me that they performed pretty well! Happy for PS5 players, but confused as to why something as huge as Final Fantasy is still sticking to timed exclusivity

The side quests are weak early on, but they are so so good when you do the last one of the 3 or 4 in a chain of side quests from the same character.
Same voice actor in diablo playing Lorath also does voice acting in this game. Hard to miss.
Hope the performance is better than the demo in quality mode it was hitting low 20s and in performance mode it could go into the low 30s still a fun game but nowhere close to a locked 60
or 30.🤔
A gorgeous game that nudged me to finally purchase a ps5. My very minor criticism would be that i wish (1) it employs more extensive face capture from the actual actors, (2) lip syncing is embedded with the audio language options, and (3) ff15's Yoko Shimomura did the music.
I'm glad to read others have enjoyed FF16 as much as I have. I thought everyone and their mom was dunking on it for no reason

Great game overall but my gripes are:

Side quest
Hunts
And some boss fights.
You can literally button mash and win easily.

Game looks incredible but I'm worried it won't have any humor in it.
The FF series used to be a balance between deep moments and funny moments that kept you invested in the characters and wanting to see them win. These past few FF titles have been very dark in their tone and way too serious throughout the whole story. Fingers crossed that I'm wrong with this one.
I guess it depends on your humor but for me even though this was a darker game than other FFs, I still found myself laughing at some points whether through dialogue or something that happened to an NPC . It does have some humor in it but not too much that it takes away from the darker tone of the story.

It still does, though that's not the focus there's a bunch of silly and ligthhearted moments where they just hang out

the cutscenes are definitely long and a focus of this game so if you're not into that, do not get this game. Although I would argue it's worth it and keeps you glued at every step, but everyone does things differently.
There's a line in the full review that didn't make it into this video, regarding how the game doesn't treat revenge as pointless:
"I've grown quite tired of the old trope that seeking revenge is an empty endeavor that makes you as bad as your oppressors, so it's invigorating to have a story put its foot down and give characters the satisfaction of killing their masters to set themselves free, presented without caveat."
I sense some dlc in the works.

This games a 10/10 for me. If for no other reason than the fact that it shows what DmC could be if capcom was willing to put in some work to make it more grand and epic like this game. I got burnt out on DmC 5 because of how samey and old the levels felt. This game looks amazing all the way through.

@@kyleannen731it is nothing like DMC, that is a challenging game series…FFXVI is like DMC being played at half speed underwater.
As someone who Platinum’d DMC5, this game is a very mild version of DMC combat so it is super forgiving. As a result, it’s something anyone can enjoy, but for those who like more advanced combat, this games satisfies unlike a slow, turn-based style.
@jchoi9340 yeah it doesn't take much for me. Anything where I'm in control of the characters moves at all times and I can get some cool combos I'm happy.

Everyone’s opinion differs but this game is amazing for me. Incredible story with fast combat that’s pretty simplistic.
Really liked the game, and it was my first final fantasy game. It doesn’t seem to be very similar to the others ones though.

Very VERY linear….. still an incredible addition to the series and I think it’s easily top 3. This is the first step I’m the direction to revolutionize the series and if they build on this formula we can be excited for future installments!
XIII was linear and I loved it. The combat system was amazing in that game. I'm personally getting a little open world fatigue

FF10 on my end. Having gone back over some of the older titles, I can comfortably say the only mainline title that's topped 10 for me so far has been 9, and only by a narrow margin. I'm looking forward to seeing if 16 can stand with the greats, as it sure looks like it will.

Frame rate drops are horrendous, game is truly 9/10 but frame rate drops in performance mode and horrible motion blur in quality mode are awful

I think something this review missed is the equipping of rings that make the gameplay easier for (making dodging and attacking way easier/automatic). I think the way they did it was brilliant because even people who like difficulty like me still found the complexity of the fighting systems to have great depth and very fun, and equipping the rings is optional, so you can set your own difficulty.
