    Out of the three FF XIII games Final Fantasy XIII-2 is the best. The levels are amazing and massive, the music is catchy and cool, the monster taming is fun and addictive, the villain Caius Ballad is bad-ass, and the protagonist duo of Serah and Noel are fun and have amazing chemistry.

    I loved this game. Then again, I also loved FF 12. I just like innovation and this story was just brilliant. Besides, this is the closest thing we got to a sibling-like relationship between two characters. No romance involved. Just trying to help each other like brother and sister.

      Konporer W. No. I prefer it because:
      i) It isn't done very often. It's new, it's refreshing and it's an interesting twist that goes against the expectations of the player.
      ii) Both of these characters have their own love interest. Showing them remaining loyal to them even when they're separated works as subtle character development and makes them even more likable (why do you think Penelope from the Odyssey has remained relevant after so many centuries. Loyalty is a virtue that is appreciated by everyone).
      iii) Because they have a great sibling dynamic on top of all this.

    You know, we'd be excessively surprised at how many NPC's from old Final Fantasies would become insufferably annoying if the old games had voice acting. The formerly comical characters might instantly become pests that we'd sooner ditch than have in our party especially if the gamer takes things way too seriously (like RPG gamers often do). Personally, I find Chocolina quite refreshing as she is one of the few characters who was designed to make us smile and distract us from serious business.

      I just hope if they remaster it, they have an option to turn off only her voice. I feel like I would enjoy her character if not for the voice. But unfortunately I have to skip her dialogue.

    What I meant is that they are interactive enough to be considered a video game, not that the amount of interactivity is outstandingly high in comparison to other games. Additionally, the point I was trying to make was that it can still be considered highly interactive as a form of media, but due to its story telling nature, its okay to be less interactive tcompared to games that focus on action or exploration as primary gameplay elements. I agree that MGS and Uncharted are fantastic.

  • @LiliaProgram
    @LiliaProgram Před 12 lety +1

    I kinda agree on the tension thing, there should be more going on between Noel and Serah. They have chemistry but lack that tension That's what made Enslaved Odyssey to the West great because you had both chemistry and tension between it's two main leads as they went on their journey and it made for a more interesting story.
    But my only worry is the frame-rate for FF13-2, I hope it doesn't drop unbearably bad otherwise that'll really tick me off.

  • @esquiredan2702
    @esquiredan2702 Před 12 lety

    No, between the snowboarding, chocobo racing, submarine battle, and biking in 7, there were tons of breaks from the normal gameplay that immersed the player. If those same sequences were in a modern Final Fantasy, they'd just be cutscenes and not interactive. In FF8 there were similar situations, like going "Bowling for chocobos" or punching the soldier off the rope above a looming battlefield. The point is things have moved from "games" to "movies in which you occasionally hit a button."

  • @esquiredan2702
    @esquiredan2702 Před 12 lety

    We don't hate it for being "different". We hate it for being more of a movie than a game. You have to admit it, things are far too automated now. The most exciting stuff happens in cutscenes that don't involve the player. To contrast this, consider FFVIII. The exciting parts involve punching a guy off a rope above a huge battle scene below, or charging into battle on the shores of Dollet. It's more interactive and more fun. And the stories were just more engrossing....

    Fuck the haters, I love the classic FFs, I love the newer FFs.
    If you keep that mentality of "this game is not like the classics so it sucks" then of course you're never gonna enjoy it. I played XIII and loved it -and I've played every single FF from the main series-, and not once I thought it wasn't as good as VII. If you see the game for what it is, a nice JRPG with a unique battle system then you're gonna enjoy the fuck out of the game just like me. And JRPGs are my favorite games.

    @Demiurgo040383 however, there is a DLC that allows you to add, as a monster in your party, either Lt. Amodar, Lightning's commander from XIII, or Lightning herself! Amodar will function as a Commando while Lightning functions as a Ravager. She also still has her Army of One ability as a Feral Link. And I've heard that Sazh is planned to be added as DLC as well. Maybe we might see the others in the future.
    I know it isn't complete control, but it's something.

    ffix brings out the moral of cherishing life

  • @nelsonta00
    @nelsonta00 Před 12 lety

    @TheMustik92 You say its optional, but if you want the most effective and quickest way to burn down the mobs, auto-attack is the best option. You're basically telling me to gimp myself to make the game more challenging, and that is the problem with the game: here should not have been an overpowering "I-Win" button. Even then, you're only able to control 1 person. At least in FFXII you are allowed to explore higher level areas that forces you use all your characters.

      I like FF13-2 more. The first half of FF13 being so linear got me upset. FF13-2 not being linear made me so happy when I realized I could move around. FF13-2 fixes the weapon system, crystarium, and party leader going down ending the battle also.

  • @nelsonta00
    @nelsonta00 Před 12 lety

    @TheMustik92 I'm not contradicting myself. I hate it, but it is the most efficient method. The fact that you control one character in XIII and 2 pretty much streamlines easy mode into something more easy.
    I don't care about games (esp jrpg) that are designed with easy mode built in. It is also why I always set my games' difficulty to the hardest.

    the stories part is subjective, everyone has different tastes
    but you cannot tell me that the old FF's were any less movies than the FF13s were, the only part that made them "less" cinematic was wandering the map (a feature shortened in 13 because of it's linearity) and most of those exciting moments you mentioned were also cinematic elements, just presented differently (during battles). The only example of actual interaction I can think of at the top of my head was the slapping scene in 7.

If SE makes FF XII, XIII and XIII-2 the exact same combat system as before with no changes, many of you will complain that SE is not improving since all the FF are almost the same. We should support the newer FFs as they are trying to implement new battle systems. FFXIII is not that terrible anyway, they have made improvements in FFXIII-2. We should all try it!

    Depends on your perspective. Both ff13 and 13-2 are HIGHLY interactive media, just because a game excels at what it focuses on, in this case, storytelling, via non interactive cutscenes or writing doesn't make it a bad game. Games that focus on storytelling should have strong elements to convey a story, at the end of the day, its still interactive, just to a lesser degree due to what its actually trying to do. I'm not a huge fan of 13 or 13-2, but your perspective is ignorant.

    @exiquio as old FF fans like me, we believe there's no such thing as an FF feel (besides mascots). That feel only came from what the consoles could only do back then (pixelated sprites to polygons and limitation in color). When FFXIII and 2 hitted the shelves with what the graphics should have been then, the sequels feels so worned out from the series' cliches.

    Why in the world did everyone hate FFXIII? and why is the hate being transferred to FFXIII-2? Even in all of your ignorance you can't surely say these games are terrible. FFXIII is probably my favorite rpg of all time and I am looking forward to playing this sequel a lot.

    Yeah but there is that in every Final Fantasy game, in the case of IX, the art style and the characters really got in the way of that for me. I liked the soundtrack in some cass though, but I generally find songs in pretty much all final fantasy games I like.

    @TheMustik92 Once again, you're telling me to gimp myself. It is not broken because the mechanic is designed that way. Is it cheap? Yes. Is it broken? No. Is it one of the fastest method? yep.

    @tkoizumi How was FF- XIII a commercial fail? It's the best selling game in the series.

    I agree. I see a lot of hate towards the gambit system but I loved it. Best thing was... it was optional and the combat was decently paced that you had time to pick attacks. This whole auto battle thing is so lame, I can't believe they made 2 games with it after all the hate it received

    why would you play 13-2 if you didn't play 13?

    Really good review, was deep enough and covered all the important aspects from the game. That's why i always prefer gamespot over ign. You dont hear any kind of fanboyism at all.
