- This is a short term review of the Canyon Endurace CF SL bike.
Bike is here: www.canyon.com/en-gb/road/end...
I was sent this bike to review - so it's not actually my bike but I've had it around a month to try out. The frame is slightly too big for me (it's a medium) and I'm 5' 9". But some really good things I love about this bike.
I should have said this in the video, but if you're after a carbon bike this is a really good bike. I really liked it. But you know me, I'm all about the alloy. Let's get an alloy one to ride and see if I like it as much as this one :)
What other bikes would you like to see me review? Let me know in the comments.

Those roads are like something from a dream.
Totally agree! I love the wide open spaces that can be cycled in.
Where are the road up in the peak district??
Wow, video looks professionally done especially with the drone shots! and Beautiful views again!! 😃Size of the bike looks good, but as you've mentioned probably worth trying a small to see how it fits.
Thanks for your video on this bike. I have just ordered mine in flash blue
Finally, get to find out about the Canyon.... Oooooh, they sent it to you to review. Perks of the job😁😉💕
Have the same for like 2-3 weeks now its awsome
Great review and some nice drone footage too.
Oh the drone view!
Free hub sound is almost the most critical part of a bike review! Nice one Katie!
I actually bought one of these earlier in the year, I have to say it is the best bike I have got , the geometry just suits my style of riding and for long rides I do I find it very comfortable and the 28mm tyres make the ride much more smoother , especially as a lot of the roads I ride around my area are not the best. Overall a very good bike for the money.. I just love getting out and riding it.
I have my Canyon Endurace CF from the very beginning when Canyon launched the Endurace series and I will never ever give it back. I love this bike, its looks, feels, handling, just every aspect of it. I feel save on it on descends as well as in races. It is fast although it has a little more upright position as the Ultimate which is better for me as I have problems with my lower back. Riding 300k on it? No problem! Online Canyon said M would be the right frame size but I used the opportunity to try it out at the Canyon Factory Store. Finally decided to go with S because of the slightly more compact position and the agile handling. For me best bike ever!
I am 178 and I ordered the medium when I used the canyon tool. The bike is too long for me. I am ready to get a small size frame, and loose some money in the process. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I have had the ENDURACE CF SL DISC 8.0 DI2 for approx. two weeks now and it is fantastic! ... So comfortable, and it flys up climbs! Extremely pleased
Scott Jones - I’m getting close to pulling the trigger on this one. After a few months now what’s your feedback? Still love it?
What height are you, did you get the frame size Canyon advised you to get?
I’m thinking of getting a Canyon Endurace Cf 8:0
Thanks for the review. I'm torn brtween the ultimate and the endurace.
Hi Katie, I own the Endurace CF SL Aero. It’s a brilliant bike.
and I love it. I’m 6 foot tall and have the large frame. For my style of riding it’s spot on.
I've been riding my CF SL for about a year now. Enthusiastically agree with everything Katie says here! I'm in my mid-60s and don't have quite the flexibility I did decades back. Canyon's upright geometry is a pretty good fit for me though. My height's 192 cm which put me into their XL frame. Only two complaints with Canyon's ordering process. They would only include their stock 110 mm stem which was just too confining. I swapped it for their VI3 in a 130 length. Enormous difference, allowing me to sprawl out and get a bit lower. Also really improved the bike's descending which was quite good to begin with. Also, their stock saddle was too narrow in the back and too wide in the front. Replaced it with a Sella Italia Novus (the new shot one...just buy it!!!). It's carbon rails are an excellent compliment to Canyon's stock VCLS leaf-spring seat post. If you ride long distances on rough pavement or gravel, the seat post is a worthy addition to any bike. The CF SL frame is stiff and responsive. Despite my height and 84 kilos, I cannot sense any deflection when sprinting this bike It just goes. I've kept 100% Ultegra except for adding a Stages power meter (factory built into a new Ultegra crankset by Stages) and Durace Carbon pedals. Despite its being a large bike, it still comes in at 8.5 kg. Bike just wants to climb! If you ever have a chance to visit the Canyon factory, just go!
Great footage !!
Yes, what a bike, soooo nice!!! Great video.:-) :-)
I bought a Canyon Endurace Aluminimum Disc frameset a few weeks ago and built that up to be my new Winter bike... but it has turned out to be my favourite bike and I am riding it all the time now, I just can't stay off it I enjoy it that much and like you say so so so comfortable.
I love alloy!!!!!! I really want to try this one in the alloy version.
I have endurace cfsl, 50/34 on the front and it takes an 11-36 on the back without issue. Fitted Roval clx 50 wheels aero bars and a -17° stem and it's transformed into a racing bike that fits me. Absolutely love it.
Good on Canyon for sending you one to review. For reference, how tall are you? For bike sizing, what chart did you go by?
Just bought a used one of these. It is certainly slick, and since I live on a darned steep hill, I could put it to the test immediately. I certainly agree with your assessment.
That climb looks beautiful!!
I got to visit Cumbria some day.
Gorgeous roads too !!!
I love my Canyon Endurace. I’ve had the 9.0CF rim brake version for 4 years now. No issues as all with it. Want to upgrade to an Aeroad for racing thought. 😀
I just got my Ultimate SL CF 8 about a month ago and have been enjoying it. I have done 100km and many hills on it. I am still liking it for its stiffness and lightweight. I like the fact it's responsive and stiff to ride. It lacks the comfort comparing to my previous Cannondale Synapse. Thanks for reviewing Endurance. I am following you.
Hi, hesitating between endurace, synapse and domane coming from mtb. Is synapse more or less sporty than ultimate or endurace by the way ? thanks foi sharing

Un super vélo dans un paysage merveilleux 🚴♀️👍
I used to cycle years ago and I've recently started again after injuring my knee running. Canyon were recommended to me by a friend at work, I bought an Endurace AL 7.0 with 105 which is a fantastic bike, 8 weeks later I have just ordered an Ultimate CF SL with Ultegra DI2 :D
I absolutely love their bikes and they are great value for money compared to some others, I especially like the stealth look finish on them.
I'm considering getting one of their mountain bikes as well in the future.
I love my CANYON Endurace CF 8.0 2017 too ! Great value!
You have both an Endurace and Ultimate? Why both? I have an Endurace but am considering sending it back for Ultimate to get more speed and a better climb. Thoughts? I’m mainly concerned about the reach on the Ultimate...the Endurace is already too long for me.
@@Chris-0703 chris let me make the situation harder for you. What about Aeroad? :D
Hi Chris, I bought the Endurace but decided very quickly that I wanted the Ultimate for the longer reach and lower position plus the gearing is better plus I wanted a carbon frame. I am in the process of selling the Endurace as I have no need for them both. Basically I should have just bought the Ultimate in the first place!
Carl Woods Is the Ultimate much more unconfortable in termes of position? I have doubts between the two models and I’m worried about finding the Ultimate too racing or Endurance too calm. Thanks!
I love people who love their bike.
does it really have right Shifter fo the front Brake and the left one for the rear brake (in GB) ???
I have a Canyon Aeroad (small) & love it, it is so light for climbing & with Mavic Cosmic carbon race wheels I can get to cafes sooooo quickly, almost all my bikes are Italian but for this I willingly make an exception. Katie, get one, you won't regret it!
I just got my Canyon Endurace Al 8.0 Disk by courier yesterday. Tomorrow is gonna be like Christmas morning when I open the box!
Hi Katie, how tall you are? Will you suggest bike with disc or rims brakes?
I tried a couple of Canyon bikes on a demo day and the majority of those there said they were pleasantly surprised with the Endurace. I think it’s because a lot of people were convinced that the Ultimate would be the bike for them, and were most surprised by how fast it was. Whilst I only rode a little 5 mile loop my fastest lap was on the Endurace and I think it’s because I had a lot of confidence in it’s handling. The Aeroad was probably faster but I couldn’t get used to the twitchy steering in such a small trial. I tried size S (I am 170cm) and M and S seemed to suit me a little better I think.
One question. Does it feel that you loose pedal efficiency when you pedal of hit bumps ? Thanx
I own a Canyon Roadlite AL; I'm 5-6, and have the XS, it fits great! I'm impressed with this bike so far and plan on buying a drop-bar road bike soon, either from Canyon, Ribble, or Trek. Bikes are so scarce for short riders in The States thanks to the virus, but we should be back to normal by the end of the year (hopefully) and i can get out and try a few of these.
I have the Ultimate. Love it, so light and stiff. Endurace seems right up your street with the Audax etc...
Nice video. Wish there were bike paths like that where I live.
hello katie, youz schwalbe pro one are 700 X 28 ?
You look smooth and quick on the. If it's to big didn't look like that hope leg getting better
My every day bike is an Ultimate SLX AL, it's brilliant.
I used the Canyon online fit calculator and came out at a size M, which I thought would be too small for my 6'.
Right out of the box the fit was spot on and it is the most comfortable bike I've owned.
Like someone else commented, it's a smile every time I ride it.🚴♂️
if you look at the geometry, you could see that Endurace CF L is quite similar to Ultimate M. See top tube length and reach. The downside of using larger frame is obviously weight, lower seat post (not much flex) and limitation on the handlebars drop vs seat height. However if you prefer more sporty position, you can achieve very similar results with Endurace CF L frame.
Big Endurace fan ❤️😎
DT Swiss hubs sound like your being chased down by a pack of angry wasps when your freewheeling. Love em.
:) to me it's more like ciccadas
Hi Katie, looks like a fantastic bike. Looking at buying a road bike as I have been using a Hybrid for quite a while now and this could be on the short list. Possibly an alloy one though to keep the cost down if they do one. Also, where was this filmed ? loved the single lane roads through the hills. Edited, sorry missed you say Great Dun Fell Climb at the beginning ;-)
How tall are you? I heard canyons frames are size up, so I should go with smaller than usual.
Got both the Endurace AL with Ultegra and Ultimate CF SLX 8.0. Both amazing bikes compared to previous bikes and Canyon certainly offer value for money. Have to say the AL Endurace is more comfortable, the best value and certainly not noticably losing performance from being AL. Can only just tell the difference between the two. Love the colour of that one you have.
I have the 2017 Endurance AL 7.0 (Ultegra) Disc. Great bike. For 2018 they renamed it to 8.0.
Both frames are beautiful
Nice video because I also ride Canyon Bikes. I'm really excited. greetings from Germany
Nice bike! I've bought a Canyon Ultimate CF SL DISC 8.0 two months ago and I love it. Absolutely amazing bike.
Hey ferenc what's up, I am considering buying the ultimate as well but idk if it has a too aggressive position for me, have you done long rides with it? How did you feel? Thanks
the same question
@@AlexManihin not too agressive geo has the Ultimate. I've ridden some 100+ km rides and feel comfortable on my bike thought I dont't have sporty body. :D But if you has concern, check the Canyon Endurace series which has a bit more comfortable geo.
Nice review , canyon bikes seems to be the best quality/price you can find on the market .
have gotta to do my super six evo review , what bike did u have before?
I have recently bought an Endurace 7.0 SL CF. My previous bike was a Focus Izalco. I loved the focus rode it all the time but wanted a replacement as it was getting a bit long in the tooth but something as close to the Focus as possible. I used the sizing system on Canyon's web site. I was very pleased that the canyon was a similar weight to the Focus and had DT Swiss wheels as did the Focus and Shimano 105 group set with disc brakes. The fit however was a complete surprise the Canyon was a better fit for me and gave me a better riding position with less weight on my arms. I should explain that I originally bought the Focus second hand so it wasn't specifically sized for me but it felt good and as it was my first serious road bike I loved it which is why I was surprised to find that there was something even more comfortable. I would highly recommend Canyon. It ticks all the boxes for me.
What do you think of the gearing? I've read comments from women's riders that the gearing is often too high for steep terrain laden touring 🤔
Where is that beautiful road you were riding on ?
I have the endurace Katie, I love this bike .I’ve upgraded mine over the years to full dura and oval rings
The German sizes are a bit hit or miss from 5,7 to 5,9
Mine is actually a small ,which I think is a 53 .but it handles well ,
I’m looking at the ultimate or aeroad now .love canyon .except when you need new bearings lol
Well done Katie. It looks like a lovely bike. I ended up buying a Liv Advanced Avail Pro (2017 version) last week for a bargain as they are having a clearance online. I read that the Canyon endurance was one of the best bikes on review at the moment - very good choice! I would have chosen the same myself (but maybe the 105 gears instead to save some cash) - perhaps for my next bike a few years from now :-D. Hope the small size fits you better.
Marie. How are you finding that bike? Reviews were in the main very positive, however, over long distances it was suggested that it can become uncomfortable and that this is something that can't be rectified by a change in saddle or handlebar.
Hi Lisa! I am really loving the bike - I've done about 100 km so far on the road, hills and light gravel trails. Here are a few things I noticed:
1. The gears are so smooth and are very responsive. The bike accelerates very quickly too. It is definitely a pleasure to ride.
2. Very lightweight for the price. My bike is size small and weighs just under 8 kg (excluding pedals).
3. My right wrist in particular has been getting sore within the first 30 km of a ride, but this may be due to not having a bike fit yet. The handlebars are actually quite large - it can be difficult to get into the drops (I still need to practice) compared to compact handlebars. Also, it can be a bit of a reach to access the break levers if you have small hands like me. I believe it is possible to adjust the reach to the levers according to the manual.
4. The super light (SL) saddle is an absolute dream! I have not had any issues with it and is very comfortable. I don't think you will need to change the saddle if you decide to buy one.
5. The reviews do not mention this, but I thought I should let you know that the freewheels make a loud clicking noise when you are not peddling, which is apparently usual for high-end bikes. I found it annoying at first as it is very load, but I'm now use to it. It can be a good thing - it gives pedestrians warning that you are approaching. From what I have read online, the noise can be reduced by getting it oiled when you next get it serviced.
Thanks Marie, that's really helpful :)
I rode an Aeroad on a demo ride in Denver. It is very nice, especially the faster you go on it. Personally I didn't like the Arione saddle that came with it but otherwise great. It had hydro disc brakes too, which really are great.
But I still prefer my custom Ti bike (also with hydro disc brakes and Di2). That is another level when it comes to comfort.
Where are you riding it looks great! Is that road closed to motor vehicle traffic?
A lovely bike, no question.
Bought this model just four weeks ago (with Di2) and I still can't stop grinning of joy :-D
macordior Same did I. It‘ll arrivierten today...
I love this video
OMG this is spooky of all your videos and I haven’t seen this one before . I’ve today placed an order for one CL SL 8 Di2 Ultegra ! Ships in June , sadly would have been end of year for a Ribble. I can’t get over the coincidence….lol
Nice bike, got Storm Green Endurace cf sl. 🚴♂️👍
Mine arrives today :)
what's the point of disc brakes on alloy wheels?
I wanna ride on those roads! So beautiful
I’ve ordered the Aeroad CF SLX. Should have left canyon last week. Every day I check and every day it’s still in the factory awaiting its build 🇩🇪
The wheels play a huge part in the comfort. Upwards of 25mm wide rims will offer loads more smoothing of the road not to add all the extra stiffness.
Canyon should hire you - full time bike tester! Also, Canyon Kookaburra is sort of alliterative. The colours are sexy
I own a canyon endurace cf sl 9.0 disc. Great bikes I Just sold a bike that cost double the canyon because I never used it since buying the endurace
I have a cf slx in small and I'm 5f9 and love it
Leigh Austin I’m 5 9 and a half Canton day o should get a small frame.Do you think there sizing is correct ?
You said in the video the medium is too big for you. How tall are you and what's your normal seat height? I'm between S and M and don't know which one to choose.
I’m around 5’ 9” but have a short reach and long legs. Best to check with Canyon :)
I
I know a couple of CZcamsrs I follow who own a Canyon Aero and Canyon Ultimate. They both gave good review. But I think I'll stick with my Cevelo S2.
My Ultimate CF SLX is amazing 😊
I bought my new bike in early July, a Canyon Endurace CF 9.0 and... crashed on my second ride on it 😓
Spent the next two weeks in coma, the next 3 weeks in hospital, and the current last 4 weeks in a specialized center to recover, physically and mentally (lost a lot of weight, a few bones and brain damaged 😢). Hopefully I should go out in a couple of days, and will see if I'll be able to ride my bike again (don't remember anything since a few days because my accident)...
Ohhhh and how is it now? One year later?
Looks a perfect bike for the 312...I might have to start saving...
Thinking of ordering one this week Endurace CF Sl 7.0 disc , Canyon recommended a XS but Geometry for the S seems more suited to me , it’s a gamble as you can’t try before you buy unless you go over there
Gary Warnock Hi Gary. Did you wind up getting this bike? What size did you get? How tall are ya? Thanks.
Nice!
Looks great bike ..
Great review. I'm about to order one next week. This years version. Still struggling with the size though. Currently ride a 58 cm Colnago. Had a 59 Bianchi before., but that was big enough. I'm 6.2. Leaning towards an L, but with my length I'm just a bit in between L and XL. Hard to choose.. Any 6.2 riders out here maybe?
Hi Katie hydraulic brakes will always be more responsive .Still yet to go out on Henrietta due to commitments , but hoping to this weekend x
Nice bike, really love the look of it. (Aerobikes can look cool too, but i prefer this styling) only thing is that it would be even better with rimbrakes (in a cosmetic way)
I bought an Endurace with rim brakes this year. Lighter and cheaper, always a great bike
The bike looks amazing and I am planning to get the cf sl 8 endurace. I am 5 foot 9 so not sure whether to get a small or medium. You say that the medium bike is too large for you. Could you confirm what height you are ?
Adrian, did you pull the trigger, I'm also 5' 9" and wondering which one I should get ??
@@Sheriffi0 So, did you pull the trigger? How do you like the fit? I'm seriously considering one myself, tho' I'm a year behind you!
@@SisterBaby I didn’t. Ended up with a 2019 synapse in 54cm. Works great for me.
@@Sheriffi0 I've been reading about that Hi-Mod carbon Synapse, but it was just a bit over my price limit! :-(
One of my top choices to replace my current bike, a B'Twin Ultra 700 AF
My novatec hubs n my winter bike are really nosey compared to.My summer bike. I love the sound of noisier hubs.
I have a canyon ultimate slx and it is a lovely bike. I just wish their after sale service was up to scratch because they have had it three times and for months on end. In a year of ownership that is really poor.
Where is that road, it's beautiful
I have a red (they go faster) 2017 Endurace AL 7.0. running Ultegra 6800. I've upgraded the tires to 32mm. Beautiful bike. I don't ride as often as I'd like.
Aaah. What's the max width it can accommodate? Can I fit in gravel tire if my needs change?
I have ordered the 2020 version of this bike and Canyons fitting guide suggested i need a size small. I am 5 10" (177cm) with a 83cm inseam, does this sound right??
Swiftrod, Canyon fitting guide suggested the same to me as well. He was recommending to buys size small and if needed change the stem of the bike to 110 which gives you better position
Thanks Sesh, will go with small then! 👍
Are the brakes on the Canyon hydraulic as well? Maybe that's the difference you can feel between your old one and this.
Yup they sure are. I think that’s why they feel like that. I love them but not sure I would fancy the upkeep if it was my own bike. What do you think?
@@KatieKookaburra Shimano hydraulics are meant to be really low maintenance, and they use mineral oil so no nasty brake fluid. I've just gone for some on my new build!
Once you've tried out the Canyon in your correct size I don't think you'd want to return it 😂 I bought an Endurace CF SLX 8.0 Udi2 beginning of this year and put it through it's paces during the Amstel Gold as well as the Maratona. Excellent bike and darn good value! I know you like to climb mountains but do you have any intentions of visiting NL? Would be great to join you on a ride in Limburg (some mean climbs!) a stunning part of the country...."the viewwsss!!"
I have the Canyon endurace cf 9.0.. I also have the Giant defy 1..the canyon weights in at just under 7kg and is a great bike but I still like the Defy. The canyon is a stiff frame running on 25mm and still trying to find the sweet spot position after 2 bike fits... The Defy is very comfortable and good work horse... canyon customer service could be better....
I want one to review and try out. Although I know I'll keep my Scott foil. :)
Your review is so great and entertaining - they just have to give a small sized one to you! :D
and by the way this is such a nice bike path...i'm jealous, we don,t have path like that in Quebec...
Great to get your views,Katie. It doesn’t look too big for you tbh. Does it have women’s geometry? How was the R8000 Ultegra?

Wow!
Have the Endurace Di2 disc 8.0 version. 7.6kg. VCLS seatpost is why it’s so comfy. Comparing to the Trek Domane it destroys it for value.
Only gripe, tyre clearance is 33mm official, can run a 34mm conti cyclocross speed but would love to run 35mm gravels with room to spare like the disc Domane.
I love the sound of the bike but some of my friends hate it :D
Why do they hate it?
Lovely looking bike, way out of my price range but lovely nonetheless.
I've had my Endurace CF SL for about a year now. I swapped out my Trek Domane 5.2 (which i can't find a buyer for). Both bikes are similar but the Domane didn't have enough clearance for 28s. Now i have more comfort, more grip and less rolling resistance (yes, check the research!). What's not to like. The split seat post system combined with the wide tyres combine to make a v comfortable ride. The discs have a superbly controllable feel v rim brakes and are sooo much better if you get caught in the rain. The Canyon is actually lighter even with the discs and cheaper. Only regret is that Canyon have just launched the same bike in much nicer (IMO) colours then my black frame. I think canyons sizing chart is a little out. I'm 5'8" and went for a small although I'm on the cusp of XS. I don't think I would have had enough seat post on the XS and the head tube would have been far too short. All in all a great bike and thoroughly recommended.
Thanks for the sizing reference. I'm 5'8" too so am between XS and S. Waiting on the Ultimate CF SL DI2 to come back into stock though as past two biles have endurance geometry and wanted something with a more agressive geometry this time around.
Is it true that if u r in between sizes, u should get the smaller size. It is easier to make adjustment. Yes?
Hi Haro, yes I think generally better to go smaller if in between sizes. You can buy a longer stem (if you don't go for the aero stem on the slightly more expensive model) and put spacers in to raise the bars. The only concern i would have is that you have enough seat post left in the frame if you need to raise the saddle a lot. Also bear in mind that the smaller frame size nearly always has significantly lower head tube length which will mean that you will be bending down lower on the bike which is fine for aero but can be tiring on longer runs.
Good luck and enjoy. Personally I think the XS will be too small for you (you won't have enough seat post)
Thinking of getting this but you say M is too small. I’m 5 foot 6 and I think I should take the S. What height are you that this was too big?
I'm 5'10
Katie Kookaburra Gosh! Maybe I need an X-S then!
Nice
