    I had a brand new 2020 defy 105 in gun smoke grey and orange that looked stunning. It was comfortable but heavy, 9.7 kg roughly and slow. Something your dad gets out of the shed every Sunday for a spin.
    Everyone raved about the canyon endurance bikes so I bought a 2nd hand one. 2015 cf 10 rim 105 at 7.7kg. It's a rocket, far more comfortable, exciting and faster than the defy. A much better bike and the rim brakes are fine. They still stop me and are easier to maintain. I will never sell it.
    The best way to describe a canyon endurance is that its a race bike in endurance clothing.

    Previous model Endurace was a flier and weight less at 7 to 7.1kg. Bought an S-Works Aethos, but couldn’t let the Endurace go, loved it too much. (Clinical… absolutely not, short wheel base and rack makes it feel very racy). Have to older model Defy. Very comfortable but a brick. Slowest bike I’ve owned. That new one looks streets ahead though. Probably about the best improvement in an evolved model ever. Looks matter. If you walk past a good looking bike, it’s more likely you’ll get on it. Not sure I’d pick the Lauf up much despite it probably being a great bike.

    i love my Lauf Seigla and at first glance the Ulthad looks very similar to the Seigla, with the obvious difference, the lack of the True Grit fork. I did even consider running a set of road tyres on my Seigla as i thought it may be a good long distance ride, based on how comfortable it is - it looks like someone at Lauf has had the same idea. Based on how good i think the Seigla is and how enjoyable it is to ride and the value for money, I would definitely be going for the Ulthad

    as said stack / reach is the most important figures
    sure defy might be nice, but if i want to endurance bike i am going for either canyon or the endurance, the defy has literally the lowest on similar size and i would put it near race gravel bike category.
    for same size defy stack is 577 vs endurance 590 vs uthald 593, i mean if i want a semi race bike i'll just go all out. i want full comfort so i can ride 80-100 miler with no back pain.

    Nice reviews. That plasticky looking compartment thing on the Canyon looks like it will break or get lost/nicked in no time. As an endurance bike I’d prefer mudguard mount options, shame the lauf doesn’t have them, as it’s much better value and I prefer the non fully integrated cabling (especially after chatting with my local bike shop and the extra work (and therefore cost) involved with servicing them.

    • @toshman696969
      @toshman696969 Před 6 měsíci +1

      i hear this often about integrated cabling, how many times do people service their cables.
      having multiple bikes at most i can remember is my 2011 p4 tt cables snapped and had to be rewired in 20+ years of riding that is one instance where i had a cable issue. maybe i am lucky but my tune ups usually involve wash, change of breakpads and chain and that is about it.

      Yes, you are lucky🍀 Usually on newer bikes it should be redone every few years, will start affecting your shifting. Why anyone would get headtube thru routed cables(Vanity,..looking pretty😍 for the guys in the bike club!😂) that are a pain/expensive to service is beyond me. Always thought downtube/toptube internals was Futurama enough. Anyway, also funny🤣 how older, "crappier" steel frame bikes with cheaper components seem to need way less care... My 90's Hard Rock MTB is the ultimate commuter/ATB(except for technical trails) and all I ever have to do is grease and adjust, like twice a year if I ride it a lot(5k/yr)... Have newer bikes, but that old steel rolls nice🙂 just wish it was a little lighter!

  • @ptonewood
    @ptonewood Před 5 měsíci

    aaaand the value here in the U.S. I’d choose Lauf.
    Lastly, I really don’t care for these internal storage bits and bobs. I feel like that cover would just snap eventually, and when I’m washing the bike water will get in. If I need to grab a tool I don’t want to fuss with that small compartment, especially with cold hands.

  • @scottk8769

  • @ptonewood
    @ptonewood Před 5 měsíci

    I’m a hair under 183cm, so I’d be interested in the Lauf M for a more aggressive fit…however more seat post would mean even slacker seat tube angle and I’m used to track bikes. The one thing I don’t like about my gravel bike is how slack it is. Still, I’d love to try it. I’m not racing cross anymore.

    • @ptonewood

    I own a Giant Contend 2 with upgraded wheelset Mavic Cosmic SLR. The Contend has an aluminium frame but the geometry is very similar to the older Defys apart from having 10mm shorter chainstays, so shorter wheelbase. I am very happy with my Contend. Whatch out about the terrible after sale service from Canyon. Especially after 3 years of owning your bike.
    If yo need a major spare part as a fork, just after this period of time.
    Canyon will refuse to sell it. Increasing the risk to have to discard your bike if you do not find a proper replacement.
