What hurts me is when they purposely make a game boring and grindy to buy their added content. Than say you don't have to buy it, but they will purposely make a terrible game to make you want too.
_Skinner box._ The word you were looking for in the industry is _Skinner box._
It's effectively creating a piece of media that's more addictive than it is fun.
destiny 2
I think its worse when they make a decent game let you have fun for a little bit, then after lets say 2 hours you hit that wall. That pay/time wall
I see you've played Total War: Warhammer 2
war thunder
Goblos are sentient beings too.
*If you see something, say something.*
Every year, up to *150,000* goblos are abused by free service game companies; blizzard put them on the critically endangered list with the release of Diablo immortal. Together, we can save goblo lives.
they've been getting mas executed by epic too
Goblo lives Matter
Ubisoft and Square go through Goblos like toilet paper
Hmmmmm, I mean I could help but then my 800 goblos would have to go
As the local goblo slayer, I can attest that they are not sentient beings but pests!
The fact that everyone has their thoughts on what game this video is supposed to be a callout on really says a lot about the game industry
It's why i almost exclusively stick to single player titles now. Also, indie is still a great source of new and quality gaming. AAA multiplayer games are becoming almost entirely live services with a plethora of microtransactions and buggy, unpolished launches.
made me think about destiny 2. They remove content and weapon I EARNED and paid money for just because they want to add new content that gets deleted anyway sooner or later. I wanted to introduce my friend to it but its just not fun when your the hero of a war you were never part of and an extremely emotional quest becomes worthless because you never got to meet the character.
@@einfangirl2351 I understood it more as Halo Infinite seeing as how that game fits the check list. Released about 9 months ago? Check. Almost no quality of life improvements despite said 9 months of farming money via item shop? Pretty close yep. Constantly replacing staff? A little on the nose but damn it’s accurate.
hmmm...
nope, not a single game popped into my mind that fits this, all the games I have with in app purchases are purely cosmetic, and in one, said cosmetics can be gotten through fun and meaningful challenges or online gameplay anyway. However that one game some of the stuff isn't cosmetic, but all of it can still be gotten through gameplay and while it's a tad pricy with in-game currency, it's no problem to unlock everything with it's enjoyable gameplay.
@@Solesteam But that's exactly what the video makes fun of, the fact that live services games will most often focus development time on cosmetics and all the other stuff that makes money while ignoring quality of life updates and game improvements.
The worst part is when the game eventually shuts down with no offline mode, essentially making your purchases useless.

With some luck the game will be revived for free after 10 years like battleforge.

Live service is only around because it works, it makes companies a ton of profit. Diablo Immortal still made a shit ton of money despite the bad press. Don't support poor practices.
Sadly, Whales are gonna be whales...And they'll be the reason we stop getting games and instead get money sucking programs
sadly it's one conscious consumer versus the hordes of "don't care i got more money than i ever need anyway" people.
diablo immortal did not make a "shit ton" of money if you compare it to other mobile games. the reason it had the launch it had was because of the IP and nothing else. the damage it has done and blizzards reputation has tanked further thanks to it.
live service isn't the issue here either, and you dont know a company isnt going to keep supporting the game the way it promises till after you have invested yourself into the game.
@@jonnysilia5740 actually it's more like hordes of people so beaten and battered by the despair of living they will mindlessly clasp onto anything and everything that can give them even a drip of dopamine to stop from ending it all

The symbolism is amazing. The first Goblo, shot and presumed dead was also presumed to have been dragged away by another worker, only for it to be later revealed that the worker did not finish their job of dragging Green Goblo away, and whoever shot it also didn’t finish their job of killing it, just like how they didn’t finish the game, leaving Green Goblo in pain just like the game’s audience

Another 6 months down the line: "Welp, I think we've squeezed as much money as we can from this stone. Our player base is now stagnant at 2,000 players. Pull the plug on the servers."

Its like buying a burger. Back in the day you got a burger that's complete with all the fixins. Nowadays, when buy the burger, all ya get is the patty. Ya gotta pay for the bun, condiments and topping individually.

I remember when games had cool cosmetics you could earn by actually being good at the game or finding secrets. I spent months with friends doing the Halo 3 vidmasters to unlock Recon Armor and payoff was an actual feeling of pride that I worked hard for it.
Couldn't agree more. I'd rather pay $60 for a game and earn the cosmetics than to download a game for free and pay $15 for a skin.
That's why i LOVE doom eternal
Man, completing the fire fight vid master by the skin of our teeth and seeing that final achievement pop up really solidified Halo 3/ODST as my favorite gaming experience ever.
Lol true
RE4 with the extra costume (2 on later ports), Assignment Ada, The Mercenaries (which is fucking amazing), 4 unlockable bonus weapons (5 on later ports), and Separate Ways were all so goated. The game is maybe 8 hours long on a reasonably fast playthrough collecting most treasures, but the game is so fucking goated with all its bonus content and the fact that you can try what are essentially "builds" with different weapons (due to limited inventory + limited money). I have no doubt that mafia Leon would be DLC in the current state of the gaming industry, as well as Separate Ways as a DLC story (hell, they even sold Mercenaries as a separate game on the 3DS, which, granted, was also fun as shit).
Multiversus do be slapping tho
They're doing it *right.* That's what I like about them.
1 new character an event, and a new map. It has been 1 week and that's their idea of a v0.1 update. What a ride.
I will say the skins are highway robbery, the Iron Giant Beach skin is around $10 and it's not even that great of a rarity. I've seen other games do MUCH worse but I hope we get rotation sales on the skins.
@@SirKrisX yeah wtf free shit!!! I SAY WE GO BACK TO GOOD OLD DAYS!!! Like releasing 3 maps and charging 15 dollars for it and locking multiplayer off if those maps come up until you buy it....

Live Service games are strange, they are meant to be play forever, but after 2 weeks i just quit and forget about it, contemplating about my wasted life
It takes the galaxy brain of publishers to launch a live service and then announce a sequel two weeks later. What's the point of a sequel to a forever game? I mean Activision wanted to make 4 Destiny games, it just didn't happen because their Bungee deal fell apart.
That's the effect Skinner boxes have on about 80% of people. It's that 20% that get totally addicted that this game was made for. And people will find a way to pay for their addictions.
That's because they release short on content. Promising more content in the future to make up for it but never arrives.
Funniest part about the vid is that people feed their money into these games time after time. I stay far away from anything with a roadmap. My pockets stay much happier that way.
I only do it if it is from ea or any other company that sucks ass
Risk o Rain 2 had a roadmap. Solid delivery. Only one I think actually stuck to it lol
Really I rarely put any money into a game after I buy it besides dlc and that’s only if I really enjoy the game or it fixes something with the main game like fallout 3’s broken steel fixing the endgame of the game.
There are some games that do roadmaps well like Monster Hunter. Really it all boils down to the company and dev teams handling it.
Well, tbh for honor roadmap is legitimate good

This video is funny but depressing at the same time, we’re all watching our favorite franchises die by turning into digital shopping malls and the actual games just being empty husks of what they used to be. I really hope something changes in gaming soon.
Stop buying anything from these companies. Your criticism of them will do nothing, they don’t care if everyone hates them, they just care about money. Hit them where it hurts, their wallet.
I want to go back to MONKE, dear god I just want my steam deck this instant to try out the classics (Q4 .-.)
@@nihilistpenguin7511 I don’t, it’s just that there’s people who will always buy regardless.
Most of my favorite franchises were actually ended by big companies that bought the smaller companies that made said favorite franchises. I would rather at least have the chance to play a kind of exploitive live-service Might & Magic or Wizardry or Ultima or Gold Box D&D game than mostly have to launch DOSBox when I want to play one, haha. Then again I say that, but would I really want a game like Destiny but for a classic CRPG license
I'm surprised the gobbo didn't have to go thru 28 forms of premium currency exchanges to get that dollar bill lol.
It'd be kinda funny if the gobbos were so far removed from actual money they just recognized dollars as yet another premium currency lol.
And that's why I don't play those games. Except monster hunter, but those games are hardly a live service more just a complete game that's updated with free and paid content. Even though vanilla Rise was a bit incomplete the overall game was great and the rest of the story came only two months later
Rise suffered from the pandemic, but Sunbreak’s definitely looking like it’s gonna pick up the slack

@@elevatorz89 i personally think the bedrock microtransactions are worth your money, if you have spare. Specifically the big ones like the sonic the hedgehog pack, that is (in my opinion) the best transaction in MC. It actually did more for the pack and players than most, and the devs were VERY smart with what they did. Sadly, thats coming from a sonic fan, so im based, but holy moly ive never seen more effort into a brand sponsored pack. (Also what is Qol)

Only thing missing was a stack of dead goblos to match the stacks of dolla dolla bills.
These game developers took the Mr Krabs approach to developing video games
I remember when games came on cartridges and didn't connect to the internet. Those were good times.
Or CDs! 6th and 7th gen consoles (OGXbox and 360 era) were probably the better times with a combo of better tech and great games
I like to think that first goblo survived and went on to make a popular indie game that killed the "free to play/pay" live service game.
I like how the dead goblin is still laughing with them despite being, y’know, dead.

I was afraid Halo Infinite would suffer when they announced it was F2P. Then I was bombarded by people who said it was “good for the game because everyone could play it” and they didn’t want to go back to DLC map packs “gatekeeping” the community for $10…That Arby n’ the Chief first episode where they discuss if the Heroic map pack was worth $10 has a definitive answer now. It WAS worth spending just $10.
This is one of the few advantages with the live service model though
DLC have the bad habit to split the community, whatever the price they're at. Which is okay for solo games, but not for the ones that are exclusively multiplayer
The game also becomes (in theory) easier to manage for devs, since they only have one community to handle
@@foxtrot9381 and look where Infinite is now
@@gabethebabe3337 Imo, the failure of Halo Infinite (from what i heard at least) stems more from the fact that it was launched with serious optimization issues and very aggressive micro-transactions/grindiness (like wth would you have to pay for an exp booster if you want to advance in the season, that's stupid)
The live service model can be something good (after all, some games became successful thanks to that), but way too often, companies are too busy trying to squeeze out money from their customers to make up for their losses and achieve rentability, that they completely forget they are essentially ruining their customer's loyalty and trust in the process, which inevitably lead to the game's downfall since most of them are multiplayer/community based.
We'll see what happens with overwatch 2, since they will do the same thing as Halo Infinite but i reckon the same sh*t will happen because greediness and insecurities (also, a guy posted a screenshot of a blizzard's survey showing a question about a mythic skin at 45$, so...)

They had to make good games in order to make money. Now they just need to implement microtransactions to make money. Even those shitty faebook games make lots of money because of that
The thing that hurts me the most is the Quality of Life features, there are so many simple quick changes that won't cost that much money but they wait months if not years to finally add that one qolf out of the hundreds on the waiting list that are still missing.
Never listen to companies that don’t deliver on their promises, and stay away from any new game that is a “live service”. Don’t buy the game, don’t spend money in the store, don’t do anything to give them money. If we all stop buying live services, they will disappear.
The trap of live services is literally that most of them are "Free", people enter them, get psychologically abused into addiction and then just become slaves to the game. If live service games were to be paid games, well, all of them would crash and burn.

The endings shot was great...no pun intended.
This video made me think about what Amazon did with their subscription service: in the middle of war, global inflation and a possible recession looming in the future they decided to raise the subscription cost by 30\40%.
Just because the people are struggling it doesn't mean amazon can have a quarter with lower growth than usual.
I'm NOT an Amazon shill by a long shot. I don't buy from them and I don't have Amazon prime, BUT, when huge corporations like Amazon have a down quarter, their stocks fall in value and almost every person in the US and most of the world is affected when that happens. People's retirement accounts, savings, loans, mortgages, etc. are all affected by large corporation stock prices. If the stock goes down and your bank loses money they'll hike up your mortgage, your retirement savings will diminish, everyone you buy stuff from, whose own investments have diminished, will try to raise prices on you to recoup what they lost. As a society we are way too dependent on loans and credit to just expect a huge company like Amazon to just have down quarters all the time...
As much as it's about _not cutting into profits,_ Amazon prime spends a lot of money on gasoline (free shipping), and the cost of that doubled over the last 6 months. You can argue over how much you think they should eat and how much you think they should pass onto the customers, but it's still a significant increase to their cost of doing business.

“Halo infinite” is all that ran through my mind this entire time
Love the vids.
Me trying to go back to 360: why isn't it possible?
Game companies: it's just not-
Me: *why not?*
This is completely fictional. 1 quality of life update is 200,000,000% more than what would actually happen.
Also, spending a whole dollar on updating the game? That's more than the entire development team gets paid to make the game in the first place!
i love it when he looked at the first greed guy & shaking his head no then off cam picks up a gun & killing the other guy for just asking to up date the game sounds like the take two ceo
Cries in Sea of Thieves
So basically this happened 3 times at EA.
Only three!?!?! 😆😂🤣😭
Maybe just three times in the last three months? That must be what you meant. I don't really pay attention to newer EA games.
as a plants vs zombies fan, i can say this is literally pvz2.
All the updates in the last years are just new plants that are fucking overpowered that you can only get by playing the pvp mode for a LONG time (consider that you need 300 crowns to guarantee getting the plant, and you only get 5 crowns per game you win) OR by buying them of course
Royal Match music in the background at the start...... flashbacks! lol
i love the wholly new voice you made for Goblo #2
Man! This video works for so many games.. it's sad tbh. Battlefield 2042 is a prime example, they released their battle pass season and have had maybe 1 or 2 patches since, and yet almost weekly add a new bundle of skins to the store, all of which are $12.50 to $17.50 a bundle
That game is on life support. Even popular Battlefield youtubers are either avoiding it or having their views tank *hard* if they cover it. It is sad to see a franchise like that kill itself, but i refuse to buy and support their newer games until they show genuine improvement.
it's not dark humor anymore, this is reality
I absolutely agree, but when a live service system goes wrong, it goes wrong HARD. WipEout Merge's in-game store is so broken at the moment that you can gain any currency in the game ridiculously quick.
Even the dead Goblo cries of laughter. Perfect representation
You forgot one thing.
"What the heck? How come when I release a live game it goes bad, but when that other company does it, it works like a charm? That game isn't even that good."
"With all due respect sir, they're handling it way better than we are. Perhaps we should take notes?"
"Hmmm. Nah, let's gaslight the public."
Battlefield 2042 vs Halo Infinite?
@@quisquiliarum7710 That, and a couple of ex-Ubisoft employees that were dissing on Elden Ring
This was waaaaaaaaaay too meta. Congratulations 🎊 👏 💐 🥳
The video is the best Halo Infinite content I have seen in almost a year.
I love these vids.
my guy described halo infinite’s live service in one and a half minutes
