I like how the hard part is like a lot of saws, then one of theese walls who may kill she, then a super timing jump when the easy is just a jump XD
Imagine how many times she died to memorise and adapt to every single pattern. Man. This was animated in such a way where it really seemed like she was a chatacter in a game
Actually, from behind the scenes content, you see they used insanely similar techniques for the "gameplay" animation as you would in a videogame. They got a character model that could be easily adapted to a real 2D platformer, I think that's what sells the looks so well.
And what's more important is, does she actually experience pain during all of that

In the death montage, at 2:43 there's 3 frames where she's staring at the bounce pad and a coconut falls on her head, presumably killing her. During the escape at 6:53 she stops early to avoid the coconut trap. The coconut is positioned exactly over where she should stand to activate the bounce pad. Everything hinged on this one coconut lol.

I have a theory is that the game they bought was probably used. That someone probably played the game, and possibly infected it taking the to the Kaizo dimension. She must been following that ghost shadow as the last person who played it.

I am pretty sure the final boss fight where her guy is hooked on tubes, she did all of that on the first run, or atleast after the part where she was revived back.
Talk about honing her skills and reflexes to the point that she had beaten the final stage at first try with pure skills.

Fun Fact: Pausing at a frame in 4:12-4:13 gives you a small excerpt on a story called I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream. The story is about an AI who destroyed humanity except for 5 people to torture for 109 years by creating "metaphorical adventures" based on the characters flaws.
This could be how Guy Collins Animation was inspired to make this.

This video has been recommended to me for years, I have always tried to avoid it because I thought it would be something weird that had been recommended to me by chance, but now that i see it i realize i've been running from a masterpiece, a museum-worthy piece of art, this is the best animation i've ever seen, and i'm completely grateful that I could see it

You have no idea how deep this video actually went. The video itself was a game, a devilishly genius puzzle. It's impossible to solve it again now, because CZcams removed the annotations, but you can look up the true ending if you're curious.

The fact that when she lost all her lives and was asked if she still wanna continue and she's back at the start the gamemode was suddenly hardcore
you dont understand. this is a kaizo game. the gimmick of kaizo games other than insanity level difficulty is you always have 0 lives. every time you die you have to start over from the beginning. she was faced with the game over screen every time she died. its just that at the end it was showing how absolutely tired she was. that she just wanted to give up but persevered and committed to saving her boyfriend.

@@deesmith8576 A lot of 90's platformers actually had fairly comprehensive instruction books, and/or areas of the game designed to teach you how to use various mechanics that were available to you. It was rare for a game to just completely throw you in the deep end unless you only ever played it as a rental or got it second-hand missing the booklet.

I actually like to think that the part where she died was scripted since when she has to replay the levels they became harder. Similar to replaying the game in Ghost's and Goblins.

Do we forget to mention there's alot of references in that video?
Even though most of the vid takes place inside a game, I don't think this video is about video games or video game addiction at all, unlike several comments I read.
For me, the first few seconds of the video tell the whole story. Look at the guy's face when he comes home (0:22), and the way he drops his jacket. So much sadness, so much depression. That's what the video is about, in my opinion. It's about a depressed guy, and how his wife/gf tries as hard as she can to help him. She tries to make him happy with that NES/Kaizo Trap, and she tries to overcome all the hardships and difficulties on her way, to pull him out of his miserable condition.
And it's hard. Yes, it's insanely hard. Giving up would be so much easier, and she contemplates that option for a brief moment, but she "continues" anyway, because she loves him and wants to do everything she can to save him.
However, this is what the final boss battle tells us : she can't do it only by herself. She can't quite beat the boss until the guy starts pulling out those tubes attached to his body, making it all glitch.
In other words, in order for the guy to get out of that depression, he does need his lover's support, but he also has to do his share.
Anyway, that's my interpretation of the video. Feel free to tell me what you think about it, whether you agree or not...

You know watching this again I never noticed that towards the end, the machine looks in sorrow as its attacking her and once shes grabbed him and its collapsing in on itself, it looks happy that she was able to beat it.

I’ve been struggling to get away from the video games. My perception is they were a happy couple but the game console go between and he’d get sucked into it too often so she had to fight a battle to keep the person she loved so she jumped through all the hoops to get deep down to rip him from his addiction. By the end the house is destroyed from arguments and the power of feeling helpless and mindlessly too attached to care for the surrounding environment. By the end the console is gone, he agrees not to touch it finally. The hand slip I thought was gonna be the ultimatum, will he return to the games or go with her and live a happier life outside the screen.

@@bellyisadorable2754 Not only that but in the scenes of her redoing the scenes she dies all 3 times. She got killed by 3 tigers, fell into lava, and fell into spikes respectively. It cuts away before you see the deaths.
