A year and a half worth of painstaking work dwindled down and compressed into mere minutes. It barely scratches the surface of the sheer magnitude this project entailed. The challenges, the mistakes, the tears, the changed plans, the stress and worry, but also the laughs, the lessons learned, the skills obtained and of course the satisfaction of finishing something so daunting..
We started renovating this home with 2 pairs of rose colored glasses, a tight budget, a scant collection of worn out tools, and a will strong enough to get us through the toughest times. Fear and worry were unwelcome but frequent guests throughout this project, but by the grace of God, one of us was always in a good enough head space to be able to see past the scary times and get the other back on track.
We're happy to have this project behind us and to be moving on to something that seems little more manageable!

I'm so glad you kept the metal kitchen cabinets!!!! I have my great grandma's free standing metal pantry. After several semi successful tries myself ... I sent it to a car paint place. They dipped the entire thing and it went right down to the steel. Then they used several coats of car paint on it. It's an absolute thing of beauty!!!!!
What a great idea! That would’ve cost if a small fortune for how many we had, I’m sure, but for one piece- absolutely! That piece will be in perfect shape for years and years to come! I bet it turned out beautifully!

Whoa, those were the most fried shingles ever!! When you were applying the caulk with your finger following the caulk tip...really neat, I have never seen anyone do that before. The bucket stilts were clever too! The floors are amazing. Stunning transformation you guys did on that whole house. I'm blown away.
The shingles had to be defective! We’ve never seen any that bad either!
Yes, that caulk trick is the best! If you wrap a baby wipe around your finger it’s even easier and cleaner!
Haha oh the bucket stilts! Ted only went down on them twice- if you count the time shown in this video! 😂
Honestly the floors were probably one of the most rewarding projects we did! They were so hard but the end result was worth it!

I remember those windows , my Dad built my childhood home in the late 50’s. We had black and pink tiles in the basement, it was hard for me when my parents sold the house, even though I was grown up and on my own. You all did a fantastic job on your house. Just think of all the memories that house has of the past lives through time. ❤❤❤❤
Yes! The “three over one” windows! Oh my goodness and the black and pink tiles are the epitome of 1950’s style. I bet that was hard when they sold it.

What a powerful couple you are. To see you and your children work to transform this 100 yr old house into a home that will live on for another 100yrs was awesome. Restoring those wood floors to life and the kitchen cabinets to give it that retro / modern look was brilliant. I look forward to seeing you build that treehouse. I just bought a house and watch so many shows on selling, buying and renovating houses. So many times a house wont sell because the buyers don't like the colour of the wall or can't imagine the childrens bedroom being used as an office instead. You guys restored my faith in humanity.
lol our favorite about those shows is when they’re like- “i rescue and relocate butterflies, and my wife picks wildflowers for a living so our all in budget is 1.2 million. ” 🤣
I love what you did here! My husband and I just closed on a home built in 1900, two story brick that is beyond rundown. He is 74 and I am 60. This is our retirement project. You are such an inspiration. Love to see other couples that work together. Gods blessings on you both and the example you are setting for your children.

My wife and I laughed when we read your comment. We were both 70 when we started building our retirement home in the mountains. Have done most of the work ourselves with help from our retired carpenter neighbor. Two stories over our garage 1400 sq ft each level. Literally from digging the foundation, pouring cement, framing, roofing we did it all. Almost two years and we are not painting the interior. Hope to be have our C/O in another month or two. Grand kids love it!

It’s unfortunate that so little of the original home remained when you purchased it, but it’s good to see that you brought some of it back
I know! That’s why when we first walked in- we didn’t even question that it was a 1950’s house. (That’s what we were told by the realtor) but when we started digging in- we quickly realized it was MUCH older! We saved as much as we could from the original house (which is actually 2 homes put together) but as you said- unfortunate that little remained.
Nice to see you handle the asbestos kitchen floor tiles in the appropriate manner. Great job!
We followed the Minnesota Department of Healths’ recommendation on asbestos removal exactly. This information has since been removed from the public and they now just say to “consult professionals.” 🤔😐

it’s hard to stay entertained during renovation videos on some channels, but you guys are so fun. i loved the dad jokes. it’s my dream to renovate a house with my boyfriend one day, but we gotta gain more skills before we attempt that.

You’re not the first person who has said something like this. It’s definitely frustrating and we’ve been on the verge of throwing in the towel SO MANY TIMES! CZcams is a lot of work and what this video doesn’t show is that all of this was done while Ted was working a full time (plus some) hospital job!
It’s been easy to want to quit but you guys keep us going! 😊🌲

We couldn’t afford to have payed the professionals to do this for us. We would’ve been completely upside down on it! We definitely make mistakes, but we learn from them as we go! I promise you it’s still cheaper than paying someone else to do it! 😊❤️🌲

The previous owner had drilled holes in it in places that didn’t make sense and the repair/refinishing company told us it’s not salvageable. 😭 how devastating, right? It almost saddened me that the video was done. But wow, what a stunning home. I am so impressed that you two did it together. And the chemistry between you is amazing! I loved every second of it. The historical touches throughout the house and the fact that you reused the kitchen is inspiring
