Behind the Scenes: Limewash in the Lounge

- In this video we apply some homemade limewash to the walls in the lounge. But this video isn't really about limewashing (as much as we do talk about it a lot). We recently purchased some new microphones to improve the sound quality of our videos and this video was made to test how they perform in the real world.

New mics sound really really good.
I appreciated the sound quality very much. So clear, much better than my phones. Even the noise from outdoor clean-up was background rather than drowning out the dialogue. I think you've made a good choice.
You do know you two are the perfectionist of renovations in Portugal.. who renovate to the enth degree.. it’s a masterclass for all ex pats and Portuguese to follow who need to know how it’s done correctly.. I doubt most people will not put the work in you both have.. perfection does exist on their property ❤
Funnily enough (while filming another video today) I suggested we’re meticulous rather than perfectionists 😂

I really like how this microphone test gave us a glimpse of your small talk while working.
The mic' s sound quality is excellent!
- no shirt rustling when you move
- doesn't pick up much external noise when you're outside talking (eg rustling of leaves)
- doesn't pick up on heavy breathing while you're working

I don’t know why I enjoyed this video so much. Watching you both lime wash a wall and talking amongst yourself was strangely entertaining.
Re Shorts: I suggest something interesting and informative. Funny is good to add as well.
I’ll give an example. When your sister visited and her partner harnessed up and climbed down the well, that was interesting and fun.

Great sound! Very clear, and I don't hear the wind or you breathing . Oops I forgot my earing aid this morning! However, I can still hear you really well over the sound of the hose .
Whatever you video you make will be interesting. What make it really good are the things you say, the humour as well as the work itself. I'm 71 and will never do anything remotely like what you're doing. I'm learning all kinds of thing that I know I'll never get to use, but it's still interesting and I love it and am always looking forward to your posts.

The mics were extremely acceptable; I enjoyed your conversation as you worked, the discussion regarding attic work processing I found enlightening whilst tickling my fancy for what has to come up there. My thoughts, regarding your comment as to what we would find repetitive or unnecessary, are that I would prefer to be a party to every aspect of the transformation of the 2nd floor, just as you detailed the excavation and reconstruction of the ground floor. Remember perfection is to be strived for but sometimes a tight second is acceptable; you could overpaint the stained wall patches with a decorative mural. Progress is marked and moving to a new focus in terms of location and projects, keep it up. By the way, just loved the rustic brickwork in Vietnam - brilliant.
Well, that was an interesting one, a mic test and a very good one I might say. Quality of sound is most excellent and no background noice or noice coming from the wind. Lime-paint looks great!!! Have a great week!!! Cheers Bert

I use those mics too. I also have a large rode mic and run it on a second camera as a safety because sound can be so tricky. I normally favor the large mic, but these are great for movement. The little wind sock works great. If you don’t like the way it looks you could buy a lav to attach to it and clip it in a hidden spot. Anyway your room is look so great!!😊🌸🌺

The new mics are great, I thought the smaller one was slightly better but it would be hard to say which was which, the outside bit was great with the wind and noise, you must be very pleased with them 😊 can’t wait for the attic antics 😊❤
I can honestly say I have observed your progress from start to now! It is amazing how methodical you have both been in building and crafting magic ( no matter what Consistently of ingredients it took to achieve) just stand back and be bloody amazed and your very hard work! Regards Sharon.
Shorts are for the TikTok sect. It's for those with short attention spans and who want to scroll from video to video. I like the longer form video. Much more interesting and informative. If you just did shorts (which I don't watch), don't believe I'd be following you two, hard-working, creative, and interesting people. Mics seem to work really well. Couldn't hear the wind while you were working outside.
My favorite OCD lime wash couple. You two made me laugh when you said do we talk about anything but lime wash or building. LOL. I do old home restoration and am finishing up my reno and putting building for sale in August. I bought a farm in Central Portugal so headed your way and that is all I do are my projects. But how fun are they when we love what we are doing and being creative and making progress. Keep on keeping on. I love it been following you guys for about a year. Thanx for the inspiration. I love being in other countries and learning their cultures. Their culture is different than ours in many ways because their climates are different so their needs are different and we have too many “needs.” I loved your Vietnam “vacation.”

The sound was excellent with your back turned or front facing. And terrific while cleaning up outside in the wind.
Sound is defintely better, although Kylie's trademark "bye bye" sounded a bit distant. Deliberate? The audio while washing out the buckets was impressive.
Looking forward to the resullts of the limewash. We are about to embark on an attempted restoration of a woodfired oven - last year's makeover with exterior masonry paint had disappointing results (for "disappointing" insert your derrogatory expletive of choice). Up next is a commercially-available limewash that needs to be mixed. I think. I haven't read the instructions yet...
"Behind the scenes" is a great idea. A good addition to your expanding, and very enjoyable, mix of videos (the Vietnam videos were an eye-opener. Kudos to you both).

Yes to the new mic, being able to hear both of you was great.
The new mic was 100%. Your voices were very understandable both inside and outside. I could not detect any breathing while you were working. When you were outside, I could hear the breeze, but it was a background noise and did not overpower what you were saying. The water when you were filling the metal bucket was loud but not overpowering your words, and when you were filling the plastic pails, it was not as loud.
I believe your new microphone wins "hands down"!

The mikes are great! As for the discoloration, we had the same ( renovating with like, meteorite stone house in France),in our case is down to rising damp in the walls, salpetre building up too, even with natural lime mortar on it it still happening, dries off in the summer a little more. Even after the french drain, redirecting rain water and so on,we still have it on outside walls, mainly because our house is on a slope about 150 from the river in a wet winter spring and autumn . Back them the stone walls were built with compact dirt system so it absorbs all the water.
Oddly satisfying to watch you lime wash. Sound quality, excellent.
