Agreed. Before all his knee injuries Bure was amazing to watch. Can't forget his double OT breakaway winner vs. Calgary in game 7 in 94. Awesome series, epic way to end it.
Bure can beat anyone if it's short distance. He always knew how to start off fast. Look at how fast he is at the beginning. In NHL games, what counts is who has that extra step on you when you begin the footrace. Then you use your body or stick handling skills once you beat him to the puck. That's why Bure was so frickin good.
Bure was a better player, but his career was marred by injury. I remember going to a Flyers/Canucks game over 10 years ago (I'm a Flyers fan, but Bure is my favorite player of all-time) and he had just blown out his knee the week before the game. I was devastated.
+Burl Farlington In my opinion,Bure are not strained, judging by how he sped in the game. Here they just ride, however, if to carry the puck, Bure will win
Federov is perhaps faster, but he is most certainly a greater all-around skater; and he skates extremely well forward and backward - making him the standard of two-way players. Bure is more like Russ Courtnall, where just with the eye test, you'd think they were the greatest skaters ever - and they're right up there - but there were greater skaters. In terms of short-burst skaters, peak Teemu Selanne in particular (before the not-so-well known leg injuries earlier on in his Jets days), in '92-93 was maybe more explosive than even Bure.
@Seoulmanaja their 16.8-16.9 seconds here of "not trying" is still faster than most players busting their ass as fast as possible. We all saw Fedorov win multiple fastest skater competition at the All Star games, he has 2'nd and 3'rd fastest all time I believe.
When Vancouver had him on the trading block in 1999, I was hoping hard that my RedWings were gonna land him. My God, it would have been a beautiful thing.
@Spetz yeah YOU think....many of the people here (as I said before), including myself believe that they don't try if it DOESN'T MATTER. I don't recall writing in any post that they NEVER try. Please show me if I've written that somewhere here.
fedorov kinda tried, but bure was pratically coasting. I love fedorov's 2 way game and that we have him on the caps now, but bure's speed was blinding when he turned it on.
@sofaking27 that's what i was thinking at one point. It looks like they are barely trying. Cuz it's sorta a kids thing segment they did years ago they prob just said make it as close as you can or something.
Fedorov has the greatest NHL career of all Russians (to date). 120 points and winning the Hart/Pearson/Selke in '93-'94 can't be touched by Bure has accomplished. Fedorov was every bit as skilled offensively but had elite defensive skills to boot. Far better player.
If you want to throw stats, throw all of them. Gretzky scored 894 goals in 1487 games. Bure scored 437 goals in 702 games. So almost half the goals in half the games.
Bure might not have been the fastest, he was up there though, he had the BEST acceleration and that's what you need for games.. Hands down most electrifying person in sports entertainment (Sorry rock).
First off we have to clarify the FACT that they did NOT try at all in this race. Fast times are always 13 sec or less like 12 for Gartner. They could not try at all because they are under contract and if they got injured for this? Holy shit, unacceptable.
@Ahattrick4asprilla Pavel Bure had the same Pavel Datsyukian "what the f--- I've never seen that done before" gene. Fedorov was less spectacular, but more talented overall.
Their contract allow them to have a life other than just hockey, with all the risks it involves. Could be risky too to take the plane or eat McDonald. Fedorov and Bure have more chances to drown in the shower than hurting themselves skating alone or a perfect ice.
@Spetz And it took pretty much 3 comments to clearly point that out......nice job.... "If it doesn't matter they don't try" is vague? I don't see how thats vague at all...if it doesn't matter meaning they don' think it has meaning...then they do not try meaning they do not play their hardest. Its pretty simple. I'm not sure why your arguing really......I think IMO in general its true.
Semin my friend, there are two russians to look at in DC. Fedorov just aint got it anymore, its not the players around him he developed too early, hes past his prime
@MrJuha82 @MrJuha82 @MrJuha82 - That is so correct. I have always said the same thing. I think Pavel was more explosive and could go from 0 to 100 in a plit of a second like nobady else not before or after and this was while he had the puck. On a longer distance Fedorov was a litle faster and as i said and what you are pointing out so correct is that his style of skating was different and therefor did not look that fast. Fedorov had it all - belong there with Gretsky and the rest
@Seoulmanaja well your "if it doesn't matter they don't try" comment is as vague and ambiguous as it gets so what the fuck am I supposed to take away from your point?!?! Whatever matters is relevant to whichever opinion you're asking...therefore your comment can be applied to pretty much every relevant thing going on in hockey, that's what I'm arguing over.
when it comes to around the rink fedorov is faster because he is taller and loses less speed when going around the curve, but in a straight line no one is as fast as bure
Russians first train to be skaters then work on other skills. I think most of them start off at some figure skating school then the tough ones pick up a stick and see what they can do with it.
pavel only played in his prime, gretzky played a great career and still was able to hold up. Also, if we count assists we know who wins, gretzky had almost 2 points a game.
Even if Federov had lost the race (which he won), the fact remains that it isn't all about speed, it's also about agility - being able to make quick turns - and know how to use your talents. No disrespect to Bure - who was amazing - but Federov was in a class of his own.
lol that was a solid 60% effort
No way the both of them was gonna risk pulling a groin or hamstring for some NHLPA video. They totally mailed it in lol
Agreed
Even though it's from wayne Gretzkys all star hockey tips you moron fuck
Completely true. Look at the times for Pete sake! 16 seconds. Give me a break. Mike Gardner did it at the all star game in 13!
TWO OF MY IDOLS FROM THE ERA
Agreed. Before all his knee injuries Bure was amazing to watch.
Can't forget his double OT breakaway winner vs. Calgary in game 7 in 94. Awesome series, epic way to end it.

zero49 yes best neutral zone speed ever!!!
Bet you beated your lil peck 926 times since that post
Bure was more explosive but Fedorov was silky smooth. Both amazing
Silky smooth like ur sister
@@inutero10 Cmon Sergey was much smoother than his sister.. The guy handled everything in fashion.
Round II: Who will end up with Anna Kournikova?
Trick question; they both lose.
Lmao great one most ppl wouldn't remember or get that haha
Lol only og's get that one
Enrique won.
Two of the most exciting talents to ever play in the NHL. I think Feds was clearly the better all around player. But that's no knock on Bure.
they were not skating their hardest, no fricken way
Jwolfe137 it's called lengthening their stride...
how you can figure out their technique here yet support bernie scumders is beyond me. Socialism is literally slavery
Fedorov one of my favorite players of all time alongside Yzerman .
I've got this on vhs from when I was a kid. It's from "Wayne gretzkys pro hockey tips". Pretty corny old thing but still fun to watch.
same. and even when i was just a little one i still knew these fuckers weren't skating their hardest..and i really wanted to see who was faster.
kapxis exactly lol
I had the same video!
TWO OF MY IDOLS

both legends of the 90s....
They were skating half speed.............In reality Bure was the rocket and Fedorov was the bullet..........both lightening fast.
Fedorov is my man! Though like others said they weren't trying...he still won and is my fav hockey player :D
fedorov proved he was fastest in the world. his record that day still stands.
+Burl Farlington In my opinion,Bure are not strained, judging by how he sped in the game. Here they just ride, however, if to carry the puck, Bure will win
Красноармеец thats damn right.. And in this video they werent near giving 100 %
Mike Gaernter held the record even before and after Fedorov
Awesome footage!
they werent skating at their fastest obviously
Literally smooth as silk!
Both great players! but i think bure should be in the fall of fame! best player to play the game of hockey!
Sergei was a cute guy when he was younger XD Rock on Sergei!
Looks like Doug Wilson is in the stripes. Bizarre.
WOW. i had this video when i was a kid!
Neither of them went full speed. Both great players. 💪
Is the prize Anna Kornikova?
Federov is perhaps faster, but he is most certainly a greater all-around skater; and he skates extremely well forward and backward - making him the standard of two-way players. Bure is more like Russ Courtnall, where just with the eye test, you'd think they were the greatest skaters ever - and they're right up there - but there were greater skaters. Gotta love the russian way of hockey!
@Seoulmanaja
their 16.8-16.9 seconds here of "not trying" is still faster than most players busting their ass as fast as possible. We all saw Fedorov win multiple fastest skater competition at the All Star games, he has 2'nd and 3'rd fastest all time I believe.

@Spetz
yeah YOU think....many of the people here (as I said before), including myself believe that they don't try if it DOESN'T MATTER. I don't recall writing in any post that they NEVER try. Please show me if I've written that somewhere here.
@Lennac Grabner?
yeaa pavel wasnt trying he could easily kill him
Yep, Still tops on my list of breakaways. He had a breakaway - he scored. He was the best on that.
they werent trying to go hard because one they had no helmets and if they feel at those speeds they could get injured.
Haha, wow. I have the VHS that this came on.
same here. he was my fav but when he left, he left burning bridges.
fedorov kinda tried, but bure was pratically coasting. I love fedorov's 2 way game and that we have him on the caps now, but bure's speed was blinding when he turned it on.
clearly neither of them took the skate off seriously, they dragged ass around that rink lol.
That mullet at 0:11 just impregnanted all the women in the world.
They are sooooooo cute. My babies
@sofaking27 that's what i was thinking at one point. It looks like they are barely trying. Cuz it's sorta a kids thing segment they did years ago they prob just said make it as close as you can or something.
I'm sorry, I don't see where I've said lazy or effortless?
Fedorov has the greatest NHL career of all Russians (to date). 120 points and winning the Hart/Pearson/Selke in '93-'94 can't be touched by Bure has accomplished. Fedorov was every bit as skilled offensively but had elite defensive skills to boot. Far better player.
Mike Gartner says hold my beer... 13.38s
In a real game, Bure had the faster pure speed, but Fedorov was the better skater (one of the best ever).
satisfactory, only gold will do and that is the correct mindset of a good team.
Bure was a speed demon and all offense. Fedorov was a smooth skater and good two way forward.
The ref (doug Wilson) says "1,2,3..no whistle" then he uses the whistle! Nice flow there fellas
Sergie federove plays for the capitals my favorite team.
hah yeah where'd that come from?
I would have expected their times to be better but still 2 great players.
They weren't trying for some reason.
hahaha anyone else recognize that ref?
Doug Wilson! the Sharks GM
If you want to throw stats, throw all of them.
Gretzky scored 894 goals in 1487 games.
Bure scored 437 goals in 702 games.
So almost half the goals in half the games.

i'm sorry but that was easily the biggest half-assed race i have ever seen
@Ahattrick4asprilla Pavel Bure had the same Pavel Datsyukian "what the f--- I've never seen that done before" gene. Fedorov was less spectacular, but more talented overall.
@Knight7578 Mike Gartner... Bure's my favourite, but I've never seen straight line speed like Gartner.
And to think Fedorov was taken 74th overall his draft year and Bure 113th. I get it's because of whole Soviet Russia thing but damn
Pavel was a faster player but I'd say Fedorov was a smoother skater, but in this video they both definatley coasted no doubt.
you are correct
I just went from 6 to midnight
Of course I think they were trying to get the same time.
Their contract allow them to have a life other than just hockey, with all the risks it involves. Could be risky too to take the plane or eat McDonald. Fedorov and Bure have more chances to drown in the shower than hurting themselves skating alone or a perfect ice.
bure had great hockey hair.

@Spetz
And it took pretty much 3 comments to clearly point that out......nice job....

agreed
ya, i love how their both russian, that just proves to all the canadians the russians do have great skill. =]
They don't need to prove it to us. Russia's hockey game is highly appreciated here :)
when it comes to around the rink fedorov is faster because he is taller and loses less speed when going around the curve, but in a straight line no one is as fast as bure
If it matters
Russians first train to be skaters then work on other skills. I think most of them start off at some figure skating school then the tough ones pick up a stick and see what they can do with it.
@laci0008 Gartner has the fastest speed because he skated around the blue paint, and not around the whole net, before they changed it.
how ironic to have these two be competing with eachother haha
the ice...
does Datsyuk try?
pavel only played in his prime, gretzky played a great career and still was able to hold up. Also, if we count assists we know who wins, gretzky had almost 2 points a game.

So did Bure, and Enrique Iglesias.
wow wheres the effort guys...was this a commercial? these 2 are the best russian players of all time...in their prime
Fedorov the best two way player of all time
LOL. They weren't even trying.
