@@aarongoldstein8472 To be fair I do not think Gretzky could have played in any of the really physically brutal eras from like the 40s - 70s. That is why I don't consider that Gretzky who is by far the most Talented of all time, is no the greatest of all time. For me to be able to dominate in any era you have to be able to:
1. Fight (you have to be able to protect yourself in those eras that were more brutal)
2. Hockey IQ (You need to be able to think the game better then everybody else)
3. Hit ( You need to be able to knock your opponent of the puck)
4. Take a Hit (Almost the same way you need to be able to fight, you need to be able to protect yourself)
5. Speed (you need to be able to have that extra gear other players do not have)
6. Skating (if you cannot skate it does not matter how good your other talents are)
7. Shoot (you need to be able to shoot and score)
8. Deke/Dangle (You need to be able to go through players)
9. Passing (You have to be able to make you teammates better)
So you could say that Gretzky has 5 out of 9 and say thats not bad at all, but the fact he couldn't fight, he couldn't really take a hit and he couldn't really hit, then you have to realise that in the more crazy times of in the original 6 era Gretzky would be chewed up and spit out. That is way for my money the player who I believe is the ultimate example of a player who would dominate in any era is Jean Beliveau, because he could do all those 9 things you need to do to be great all at a generational level, yes he is not the most talented ever like Gretzky, however he is still top 3 most talented of all time only behind the likes of Lemieux, and Gretzky, and Beliveau could fight.
For example in one season Beliveau had:
GP: 70
G: 47
A: 41
P: 88 (Well being 17 points ahead of Maurice Richard in points for the Montreal Canadiens)
PIMs: 143 (having 49 more penalty minutes then the next highest Hab.)
But that is just my opinion

This guy was PHENOMENAL. What a time in Vancouver, insane buzz, every kid playing street hockey was Bure, you HAD to have his Pro Set and Upper Deck Rookie cards. He was amazing. The single greatest talent this team might ever see.

Bure Buried every Goal.
Bure in today's NHL would absolutely dominate.
And with player safety in today's game, I think he would have actually stood a chance to play 1000 games.
Agreed this guy was shifty as hell and wicked speed a deadly combination
And with today's equipment, ultra light skates, carbon fiber sticks, etc plus no clutch and grab.
Bure is one of the few players from the 90's who could play and excel in today's game.
This next bit isn't about Bure but it came to mind while I was writing about him.
In the 70's and 80's the grown ups would always tell us how todays players (they usually started with Gretzky then went to everyone else) couldn't play in the 50's and 60's (expansion, better tougher players blah blah blah), they wouldn't be good enough plus it was way rougher and they'd get killed.
But now I'm the grown up so I can be the annoying "back in my day" guy.
Except I can't...
... because you'd have to be blind not to see that today's players are WAY more skilled than the 80's, and 90's, players.
Less slash ,hit ,hook and obstruction ,he will be able to play even more games , knees get busted quicker when constantly absorb punishments
You know you're unreal when you undress lidstrom, Niedermayer, and stevens in a top 10
Don't forget he got Ray Bourque on the Boston goal too.
@@BravePip Does it count as undressing when Bure didn't steal the puck from Bourque nor stickhandle through him like he did with Stevens and Lidstrom?
In that case, the puck bounced by Bourque and Bure took advantage.
@@September2004 There is another Bure goal, not on this list but often in other highlight compilations, where he goes through Bourque and another Bruins defenseman for a goal.

I was lucky enough to see him live 2x's once in regular season and in game 6 of the finals. He was hands down the greatest Canuck we ever had. The russian rocket forever !

There is Pavel Bure and everyone else. He was simply a magician on ice with the puck. I still watch these highlights 30 years later and shake my head in amazement.
If It wasn't for Slow Motion, Nobody Would Believe It. I would Love to Hear the Refs Talking about His Goals After,
Bure was good but there has been lots of other good players too. Denis Savard for example has better highlights.
The Russian Rocket was so naturally gifted and his numbers don't lie, his best seasons with 50+ goals are - 51, 58, 59, 60, 60. He accomplished this in just over 700 games. I remember Pavel Bure before the Vancouver Canucks made it to the '94 Stanley Cup Finals. Often, he was the best player on the ice, including both teams. Man oh man! He scored 60 goals twice!
And everyone else? You acting like Mario Lemieux wasn't way better?
He's a true legend!

I was at that game, in my Bure jersey, sitting next to the camera that has the angle of him coming right at ya.
As soon as he touched the puck, I leaned to my buddy and said, "watch this".
Such a shame his knees just couldn't hold up.
Lidstrom hi-lite was the best goal shown. Totally blew by him like he was standing still.

Ah, Pavel Bure... making swiss cheese of defensive lines since 1991. Amazing speed, agility, and handling like no other in his day. Such a joy to watch these highlights. :)

I don’t know, though he was one of the most phenomenal players in his day, I don’t know about best handling. Gretzky’s handling was around equal, if not better.
Especially with probably the best lindstrom
He was a smart player and defensively aware, had much more of a complete game than most people give him credit for because of how many goals he could score. This is a guy you would love to have on your team in any era.

@@_peace_toyour_house8304 Буре мой любимый игрок, но как раз сейчас таких намного больше чем тогда. Хоккей в НХЛ полностью изменился и сегодняшние игроки как раз тащились от Буре в детстве и во многом ему подражают.

A true hockey legend! The fact that I either forgot some of these or completely missed shows just how good he was! They say that the game has changed but I think he would have scored over a hundred points if he played today.

I thought the same thing..he was hockeys magician...Mario Lemieux and Gretzky get alot of glory and they deserve it but Pavel Bure and Jaromir Jagr were who i thought were the best to watch in that era.

на удивление одинаковые, дежурство у синей линии, страртовая скорость и молодость... ах да еще и дриблинг неплохой, но ничего выдающегося.

Это был ЯРЧАЙШИЙ игрок , похожего на него трудно найти в хоккейном мире. Были возможно более тонкие, умные игроки -организаторы.. Но когда вы видели игру Буре в то время вы понимали ,что не видели еще именно такого стиля игры.. Он был уникальным игроком..
Обидно, что не взял Стэнли и золото Олимпиады

Lidstrom was undressed many times and never hit anyone. He was fortunate to play on great teams his entire career. Massively overrated.

The only player other than Gretzky to get me out of my seat when he got the puck. Highly intelligent, great hands and blinding speed. We were so very lucky to have him in Vancouver as a Canuck.
He's pretty much the reason that I became a Canucks fan 30 years ago and somehow these clips never get old. Was hoping the skate to stick would be number one. I think you nailed it!
10 great goals and in each one except for #1 there were like 2 to 3 penalties happening as of today's NHL. Can you imagine Bure in today's NHL without the clutching, slashing and hooking?

Wow! Maybe it's because I was young and always cheered against the guy, but I clearly forgot how insanely skilled and crafty Bure was with the puck. There is just something so unique and special about how he moved and handled the puck. Just wow 😮🤯

Personally I think one of his best schools ever is at the 92-93 All-Star game he did the breakaway relay Against Patrick Roy And he digs him so bad he slid the park across to the right side of the net like he was going to go wide right and he paused for a split second to tap it back hand through his legs as they opened because of the crazy deke.
This guy was utterly phenomenal and without two line passes and all the hooking and holding BS without a doubt he would’ve been a goal a game guy constantly. He arguably could have been the greatest goal scorer ever.
I mean think about it this is a guy that in 99 2000 scored almost 60 goals back to back again in the era of hooking and holding were most teams weren’t scoring goals in the average game was like 2 to 1 or 3 to 2 at the most. Lol The guy still scored 58 and 59 again that’s so crazy 😳👍

seen a lot of hockey in my day, and lucky to attend one game with him playing, and still blows me away thinking about it over 20 years ago. You could almost feel everybody raise out of their seat when he would get the puck and start to rush up the ice. And I was lucky to see the famed KLM line of Krutov, Larionov and Makarov line play, one of the greatest lines ever and still wish I could have seen the next great line in Russian hockey being formed more often of Bure, Fedorov and Mogilny. Wow, they all had great NHL careers but didn`t get to see them play together much. They did win a gold medal together at the world juniors i think in about 1989.

McDavid before McDavid was even a twinkle in his daddy's eyes. What Bure could do with a puck at full speed is beyond anyone's skills in any era. Only thing that could slow him down was injuries. I never got to see him play live since I was like 2 in 94, but he did enough on tape that he's among my all time fav players. Lol.
If he didn't skate with his head down he wouldn't have been injured so much 🤷
I lucked out and had tickets for his first game... he didn't score, but every time he touched the puck EVERYBODY in the building leaned forward. The guy was electric!

The amount of hooking in number 9 loooool, Bure woulda scored 800 goals in todays NHL
I am a Canucks fan, and a huge Bure fan, but in todays hockey he would just fit in with the greats of today. Look at the goaltending in almost every goal in this video. Goalies were brutal in comparison to todays goalies. And im not saying that goalies back then were no good, its just todays goalies are a lot more advance. If Crosby, Ovi, McD and other superstars of today were to teleport to Greztkys day, they all would wreck the league, and with todays training maybe even more than Wayne.
The thing is he only played 702 NHL games but still scored 437 goals. His knees betrayed him.
@@seansaville5664 Earlier on in Bure's career that might have been true. But look at what he did in the 2000 and 2001 seasons, he scored 58 and 59 goals (leading the league both times), while playing for an awful Florida team. And I don't think the goaltending was considerably worse then than it is today.

One of the most beautiful skaters ever
The recent ROY Kaprizov for the Wild reminds me a lot of Bure. He doesn't have the same incredible top end speed, but he's similarly creative with his skating to make scoring chances. He was a joy to watch this season. Hopefully the Wild can get him a Center that can win faceoffs and feed him pucks for years.
All his finishes are so simple, but oh so very very nice! Love it.

Honorable mention to when he called his own penalty shot and scored on Rhodes
@mojo look up "Pavel Bure Calls his shot", he got a penalty shot and told the ref where he was going to shoot and score. Then went and did exactly that, pointing at the ref he told after he scored in celebration.
i live near vancouver i was 11 in 94. grew up with bure. he flipped me a puck over the glass once. i loved the canucks in the early 90s! WHITE TOWEL!

I am from Ireland . I lived in Toronto for a good few years. Late 80s, early 90s. the Hockey was great to watch. BUT Pavel was some operator on the ice. Seen him make a mockery of many a team. great player. Pity he didn't play for the leaf's, but we had Dougie and co.

One of the greatest NHL players easily. I was born in 2002. So I barely remember watching clips of him but I still look up to him.
Take McDavid explosion/speed combined with Datsyuk stickhandling = Bure.

@Linden McDiarmid Exactly. I was lucky to see many live games with Pavel, including the #1 goal in this list, and feel Pavel was a better finisher/natural goal scorer and maybe had a faster first few steps than McDavid but Conor has better top speed and a much better passer as you say.

The amazing part of his speed is how fast he could accelerate while turning. The defender would complete his matching turn and be 5 feet behind Bure.

One of thee best goal scorers in league history. And as a Canuck he was held , hooked and no arms raised by the refs on most of his goals. And was so fast he made Courtnal look slow. And he was fast.
If Pavel Bure be playing in today's league, he be scoring 100 goals a season, no doubt.
Ive been a Bruins fan all my life..but Pavel Bure was my favorite player growing up...sure we had Cam Neely, Ray Bourque and alot of legends..but we didnt have anyone like the Russian Rocket at the time...unmatched speed and finesse..made the game so much more fun to watch..whenever the Canucks were on tv it was must see...Hockey needs more players like Bure..so damn smooth.

Don't know what it was but somehow it was just super exciting to watch a game from Vancouver at that time. Just even the way the ice looked and I loved those unis. Don't know why they ever changed them.
I think a lot of the modern players grew up watching this dude & emulated him. He was unique at the time. Now a lot of guys can do stuff like that. Although still not quite that well or maybe the opposing players were not as good back then & he just had a massive advantage in skating.

Pavel Bure’s greatest goal was without question the overtime goal against Calgary in 1994 listed as #2 in this video.
