The iconic mirror glasses showing the crowd - my favourite band then and now
To see a full Wembley Stadium in the reflection of his sunglasses is epic. You get a chance to see what he's seeing as he's singing to it. Mesmerizing imagery.
one of the best pieces of camera work of that day.
And not a mobile in sight. Wonderful
Midge Ure never gets the credit he deserves for everything he did to get Live Aid happening. Brilliant performance of "Dancing with Tears in My Eyes."
Well, I get the feeling someone in the boomtown rats was jealous.
this is true indeed
Because that wanker Geldof took all the credit.
Crimsonphilosophy Geldof only had that rant because the donations weren’t coming in fast enough.
Queen Corporate Marketing Associated stole the show ...
Dancing with Wembley in his eyes
LMAO
Its true tho lol
literally
💯 love fra Danmark 🇩🇰
Total 80s 👑💖👏
How cool is the refection in Midge Ure's glasses!
Literally just stared at that and then I came down here to the comments and see this lol
I know lol

Great camera 🎥 Work getting the crowd “through his eyes “....
It was to prove they were really there and live see. He was watching the crowed in 4k to lol.
Forever grateful to have been a teenager in the 80's.
Back then ... no fake teeths , no plastic glam , no back vocals ..... just ARTIST doing their job perfectly
And no autotune.
👏🏼
and no in-ear monitors. I remember one interview with Rob Halford where he said, they just sang as loud as they could hoping for the best xD
The 80's....what a glorious time to be alive!
Let's go back we have the music 💙 still
... glad that i´ve lived in it!!!
It was also a scary time to be alive, based on this song.
Indeed and to have witnessed history like this, magical
Much more homely and worry free compared to todays generation
What a master performance. The man was sick, with a bad cold, and yet, he nailed one of the best vocal renditions EVER!
80s music beats any of the garbage of today 😂 What a complete legend 🙌 xx
@@dawnsmith5634 there's still good artists today, but very few, the 80's were mostly better
@@arkhamguard6479 💯
amazing performance
true pros like Midge Ure can pull it out of the bag and deliver a stellar performance even when they are below their best
Year 2024 and I still claim: nothing compares to ULTRAVOX... nothing!!
Nicolas sirkis et Louis Bertignac fait partie des chanteurs de génie comme Midge ❤
Them.. and Simple minds...
Probably the most underrated and underappreciated performance of Live Aid. A beautifully haunting song, great vocals!
great band but overshadowed by queen who stole the show
Haunting song - but yes good comment.
Yes, I completely agree.
@@markfarnon6742 thanks, corrected it.
@@steliosc.4686 You're welcome 😉
Shit, da war ich 14. Kein Handy und Internet. Nur der Mensch und geile Musik. Zeit vergeht.
I was 14 years old in 1985 ..I watched this along with 40% of the world population within my livingroom downtown TORONTO. it was amazing...so blessed to be alive in the 80s...amazing time to be a teenager
I was only 5 in 85 but remeber the 80s very well ....it was class being a small child with all the other kids in the street...all the games we played and the hot summers....I remember it all like it was yday ...I can only imagine what it was like being a teenager but yea it would have been cool af ....it was a good decade .....decades that stand out are the 60s the 20s and the 80s imo ...
Yes, yes it was.
I totally agree!! A truly amazing time to be a teen! I wish we could go back in time!
I was 13 and also watched it at home that day in the living room as well. Was in Devon UK.
I was 15 years old..God I wish I could go back to 1985.
He’s such an amazing singer.
Top 🤩🌼🌼🇧🇷🙏😷
Boa noite 🤩🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼
I believe the sound system for Wembley was broken or either replaced with a different one, which makes it even more amazing. The effect used on the guitar is a flanger and indeed 'too much' for my liking. But anyways, great performance!
Yes he is but nothing compares to Freddie
@@surmel9163 well I do not completely disagree or agree. I think musicianship is more than being a good composer, singer or mastering an instrument. For your point of view, I am a musician myself and think it is facinating when people master an instrument or write a beautiful song.
I think that Queen was a band in general that couldn't do without eachother. You noticed this quite on the solo records from Freddie (Mr Bad Guy) and Midge Ure (primarly singer in Ultravox) was more the brains and composer within Ultravox.
To make my point clear, all muscians are different and unique. Fred had a great vocal range, a great ear for composing and mixing and an excellent skill of playing piano (actually all the things that made Queen stand out and making the music that interesting. However, I think that Queen and Freddie would had never succeeded if they did not meet. Queen was very influential, made probably one of the best songs ever (Bohemian Rhapsody), but I do not think that it is kudo's to Freddie only.
Probably the most underestimated band of this century. They’re brillant people.
i concur
Last century
I had their 1st 4 records in the Midge era and I really liked them.
dude you're stuck in the 80's or 90's. Its the next century
Patrick Shwayze on drums
the reflection of the crowd in midge's sunglasses. that's when you realize just how big the crowd was.
Oh I think the shot at 2:27 makes the crowd size quite clear. 🤨
Singing with crowds in his eyes
Back when artists could replicate their songs live..
point! this performance is amazing!! gah miss such times 😔
A lot of them can now. You're talking about modern pop acts, they're not artists.
@@Hellwyck Alright, back when commercial pop acts could replicate their songs live.. With real instruments
Back when performances sometimes beat the album version.
These are good. Do their own songs as well. They recreate different genres with just guitar bass and drums czcams.com/video/o5a3SNhUReU/video.html
This is why we need time machines
alex t. Agree
I only need a one way trip.
take me here with you time machine people.. this is why.
I just wish I could hear all their songs again for the first time
You Tube is already a time machine by The way...Did you ever imagine a thing like this in 1985?
Midge's voice is the 80's sound all day!
I bet when Midge wrote this on his couch, and recorded it in a studio late at night, relaxed..., he never thought he'd have to sing it at 9am on a Saturday morning, with no rehearsal, to 1 billion people...
Yet his voice NEVER cracks.
This is almost as amazing as the job he did to organize Live Aid.
12pm actually
12pm*
* 1,5 Billionen
Jon Dunmore actually it was 13.17 when Ultravox came onto the stage, he sung Vienna first if I remember correctly so it wad have been 13.30 approx when he sung this one
There was definitely rehearsal
One of the most underrated voices
He's clear and perfect
His singing is darn beautiful.
💯% love 🥰💕👌
💯 love fra Danmark 🇩🇰
Beautiful and melodic - I was 12 at the time, Ultravox then and now, remain a band I love.
He's a lovely bloke midge ure, done alot for charity and live aid a great performance
The best vocal performance of the day in my opinion
Well said Russ.
Totally agree Russ 👍
I love this performance 🤩
Yep. I completely concur.
What about Simon le Bon 😊
Beatiful song
Back then, every guy wanted to be Midge Ure, I remember guys showing up to school with the long coats and their hair done like his, lol!
yep - standard mid80's school attire - white socks, black slip ons and grey trousers.
sherp2u1 yeah remember the white one from the “if I Was” film clip? That was so cool back then....
Not this guy.
Superb vocal performance the unsung hero of Live Aid and a nice man to boot
Damn he can sing
Dancing with tears in my eyes. Good old song. And Life.🧡😏🌞
That voice 🔥❤
The opening track on the album The Collection..I played that album over and over in 1987. My brother taped it for me..Rest easy, Ed 💖💖
I meet MU in late 90's in Italy in Hotel. I asked please for an autograph and he done with wishes of best of luck without even blink. He was promoting his solo "breathe" at the time. Great artist and respectful to his fans. Thanks Midge.
That was a great album, I still have it (on cassette lol).
What a great voice.
SUPER BAND!
I LOVE ULTRAVOX
One of the best all time ever song . No doubt
I want to go back to those times!
This evening , in august 2019, in the car, my 15 years old daughter asked me to put especially The Voice and Ultravox in general " cause I like dad's music ". Great bands ⭐️⭐️⭐️, great songs never die.
Sounds like you raised her right.
✔ *Dad Goals*
Listen to her, dad. Intelligent young lady you raised.
The most overlooked band of the eighties,, and probably the best??
This is the most 80's thing I've ever seen!
☆LONG LIVE THE 80'S☆
COMPLETELY AGREE! BEST.DECADE.EVER!🙌🎶🖤
One of my favorite songs off of their Lament album. The performance is even more stunning!
Ultravox was nothing but incredible!
I swear midge singing this is my favourite part of live aid. My mum was blasting this through the TV on that Saturday afternoon. i was only 8 and wasn't really interested in music but I stopped playing football in my garden and ran indoors to see ultravox. this song sent chills down my back.quite a feat when I remember how hot it was in England that day. A little moment in time il never forget.
Leon Queen were my favourite.
Same age as you. Same memories.
Lee Wright I’m only 21, so I wasn’t even born when Live Aid happened but I have the DVD and wish I could go back in time.
The heat and his attire clash. Don't know why or how he pulled it off without fainting. Lol.
Cool band name. Never got into them much but I always loved the name. Human League is interesting name as well.
I had forgotten just how good Midge Ure was and still is.
This song screams 80’s so does the attire. Still a marvellous performance.
Nothing wrong with the 80s my friend 😊
Ultravox. One of the most underrated Bands of the 80s🙏🙋
What a Song! What a singer song-writer too!
WHAT A SONG 💓💞💕💓💞💕💓💞💕
I remember sitting in Wembley stadium watching this absolutely perfection
Just wow what a man 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Un guitarrista maravilloso y único además de su hermosa voz!

literally dancing with tears in my eyes with this powerful song with a powerful melody and powerful voice, i wish i could be there that day.
J'avais 15 ans en 1985 et j'écoute toujours 🇨🇵🇨🇵🇨🇵👍
The best performance in this concert 👍👍🎶🎶
RIP Chris Cross one of the genius of the 80s
Saw this as a teenaged kid....Was blown away by Ultravox that day, still stunning 34 years later!
MIDGE URE ❤❤❤❤ LOVELY ,,❤❤❤❤❤REALLY THE BEST❤❤❤❤
I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing on two very different days in my life other than very special days such as my wedding and the birth of my children but Sat. July 13th 1985 and Sept. 11 2001 are the days that will forever be etched in my memory. One was magnificent and the other magnificently awful.
I grew up with these songs. It's very very emotional to listen to them
I was there fantastic i can't imagine It is 35 years ago on monday i think every year on this event on the 13th of July
Thanks Sir Midge Ure and Sir Bob Geldolf
Watching this ... these days....results in " tears in my eyes'.....
This performance was 🔥!
My beautiful youth ❤
R.I.P Cris Cross . Ich war und bin auch heute noch ein großer Ultravox Fan . Die Nachricht hat mich echt berührt . Danke für Deine Musik .
So good, so vibrant, such emotions... You feel you're there. This version is so emotional you want to scream "Bravo", then clap 👏 and cheer 🙌 like if you were another one watching this live in old Wembley.
Absolutely gonna be a classic. Fantastic high tone perfomance and a catchy tune. Wien till this is Ultravox. Love it.
The 60- and 80ies have to be the most important musical decades ever so far to modern man. Classical music is of course another matter.
Dancing with the stars in my eyes always l love it thank you was wonderful too
Sdds dos meu 20 anos, anos 80 eram tantas as tendências que nós podíamos escolher , 😂
He performed this live in the Atkinson in April, and his voice has not weakened with age.
I don't know why, but there's something about this song that reminds me of my early childhood...weird, I know, but for some reason it does!
@Scott Farquharson I know what it's about; the song itself takes me back to my childhood, I just can't figure out why.
I don't know why the "Bohemian Rhapsody" movie pictured Bob Geldof as the only man behind the Live Aid.
Those sunglasses are awesome
Dancing with Tears in my eyes.Very Old and Good Song 🎶.🌺🦋☀️And Life.Merci.2021//2022//2023
💯% love 🥰💕✌
Danmark 💕😋🇩🇰🖐
What a bloody performance! Midge was the best vocal performance of that concert
Always evryhere this song stay Great and beautiful 🤗👍👑
how the hell does he sing that high and strong so effortlessly
He was young. I bet he couldn’t do those notes with that much power anymore. We all get old unfortunately. 🙁
@@normturner4849 he’s still brilliant though!
jess allen Sure is! I think the songs stand the test of time. Some other 🤡in comments said the synthesised sound was ‘cheesy’ without allowing for the fact that those keyboard sounds were a new thing in the 80s. Bands were experimenting with what was possible & it was all new & exciting! I miss those days. This is one of my favourite songs. You know the original video to go with this song? A French(?) filmmaker ran the video backwards to the song so the nuke meltdown happens first & at the end the baby gets put to bed & they dance. It ends up feeling really poignant and sad bc you know already that they’ve died so you see that they’re saying goodbye in their dance. I cannot find this version as it was unofficial, just some dudes trying stuff but I read the original video director saw that & really liked it and felt it was actually better than his vid. Mega high praise for a video I sanctioned by the record label! If you ever happen across this I hope you remember me & link it to me. I only lost it bc I changed devices & the Cloud sux steaming bowls of liquified shite! 🤣🤮
@@normturner4849 I saw an interview with him a couple of years ago, where he said that if he now were to give advice to young Midge Ure, it would be to not write those songs in such damn high key, lol....
Love the man.....
It's easy........just takes hour's of hard work and dedication......and talent
I think Midge is a great Terminator fan, glasses from the Terminator, coat from Kyle Reese. :)
Absolutely Great Performance!!!
Hahaha
Or Terminator was a big fan of him. Hahah
He must be a robot to be wearing that coat in that heat.
@@lapelcelery42 no it was silk
Victor Kane Sandor Great call!
Did watch this back in '85. Getting old..
Wish I could spend a day back in the 80’s loved this time, my family were here then too would be awesome thank them for protecting me the way they did, it prepared what was too come.

A day not to be forgotten. Sat glued to the tv the whole day. Amazing acts, great songs.
Nostalgic music! "Do you remember the best moments?" 😎
Ultravox, my first and never forgotten musical love. Absolutely great
Today I saw Midge Ure live on stage. It was amazing
Edward Nigma, I saw him when he came through Cleveland a few years ago. Loved it!
Isn’t he fantastic. I’ve seen him twice and booked to see him again later this year. Such a great performer.
Te czasy nie wrócą piekna muzyka nic nie dorówna muzyce lat80
I was 14 ...the TV was ...full
Power...this was amazing.
Wishes from Austria 🇦🇹
Amazing song, and complete 80’s vibe
Remember this like it was yesterday!...I was 16 and Ultravox just blew my mind that day!
The best performance in all Live Aid together with Queen !!!
I feel that queens performance took all recognition of the amazing performance put on by Ultravox
Ultravox was not even in the same ballpark as Queen.
@@satchfan2010 're read my comment, I didn't say they were, I stated that I believe they had an amazing performance overlooked
Queen was an old band in those days more 70's dads music. Ultravox was young and of there time. Although Queens fame and songs stand the test of time and of course records sold made Queen Huge
Sry seeing nothing special in this performance.I was in pain watching Live Aid get started with dull performances such as this one and Style Council. Thankfully, the dramatic acts came later. As someone mentioned they are not in the same ballpark as Queen
Queen is comically overrated. They're a band that everyone thinks is good because they're told to think they're good, just like Led Zeppelin. Self-indulgent boomer trash that aged like shit. Bowie is timeless, Queen isn't.
what a voice!!!!!!
Fave song ever .. best 80s band ... x
I watched the man himself sing this only six days ago in Nottingham lol... and
he still SMASHED IT just as good as you see in the video, a voice designed to last :)
Watta trax midge !!!
Watta greatest tv show on earth!!!
Watta 85 !!!
Watta 80's decade folk's !!!!
Thanx god 4 the 80's

What a voice !! I used to sing it when I was young , it was one of my favourite songs .
I STILL love to sing along with this song+ Vienna. Live Aid was an amazing event.
Midge Ure, here, was stunning and absolutely great..in front of a great-great audience..
as concerts go they dont get much bigger than this. What an amazing achievement well done Sir BOB AND THAT MAN FROM ULTRAVOX XXX
That signature dance move of his with the pelvic thrust always had me weak at the knees. ❤️
