Honestly, Monoma is my favorite character so far in the series. It's that he's not content to just stand idly by and let Class A take the spotlight away from him.
Like, *actually* think about it for a second. Class B is supposed to be the same quality and work ethic as Class A, yet because of their constant attention because of the villains most people don't even know Class B is in the hero course, both in show and in reality. Like, seriously. Monoma probably worked his ass off, perfecting his quirk, studying, and working out every day just to have a *chance* at getting into a prestigious hero school; and now that he's here he's just left out on the wayside while Class A gets all the praise by sheer luck and virtue of being friends with the Main Character. He's justified at how petty and bitter he is because unlike the rest of his class and all the teachers who are all like "Oh, don't worry, Class B will be as successful as Class A, just do your best" he knows that if Class B doesn't outshine Class A by school's end him and the rest of the class will be pretty much fucked over by the fact that Class A got all the attention. He doesn't want to lie down, grovel and praise Class A while him and *his* friends get dicked over by them; he takes it upon himself to act as bitchy, and passive-aggressives the *fuck* out of Class A.
Taking that into consideration it's genuinely amazing how well he deals with his anger! He just taunts and teases Class A for pretty much unintentionally undermining all his hard work! And he even does his best for his *entire* class to pass and be recognized - how the hell is he not more popular?!

I really liked shinso's story cause it shows an innocent but nasty side of their society, that can probably be reflected in our society, that he's unfairly judged or biased based on his power. I didn't even think that he's jealous type and his power reflected that so they makes me like him more but I would like to see more shinso

But we didn't even talk about how Monoma was the only other character besides Aizawa who noticed Uraraka's secret plan against Bakugou and I think that says two things. One Monoma having interacted from Bakugou knew that he would be blindsided from a sneaky strategy because Bakugou is so laser focused on his goal so Monoma was in tune to Bakugou's reaction and lo and behold he was right! Uraraka did get the jump on Bakugou. Two Monoma had just lost because he himself underestimated Bakugou's sheer tenacity and let his guard down and thus was unable to make it to the final round. So he focused in and did not underestimate both Bakugou and Uraraka because he had been burned in the past from that flaw and at the same time his whole strategy that he implemented (and some of Class B followed) was to be perceived as weak and then curb stomp when it counted. It didn't work but it was a good strategy. So when Uraraka comes on stage and everyone's worried about the "poor little girl" getting beat up by Bakugou, Monoma is already enlightened enough to not let that fake stereotype influence his analysis of the battle and is therefore the character that follows the fight the most accurately and deliveries flawless commentary.
Or maybe I'm just projecting because I love Monoma, Uraraka and Bakugou so much so a plot point that involves all three of them satisfies my narrative itch.

I just don't like how Monoma was introduced as a potential threat, only to be reduced to a joke character a few episodes later. I want to see him scheming against and nearly screwing over class A, not gloating and then immediately getting neck chopped!

I believe he will get into the hero course. he has shown up in the manga several times in the background and he looks more muscular and hes been shown to be a little stronger so hes probably training and the writer will introduce him again stronger than he was last time.

The thing you guys didn't notice is Eraser Head himself was always with Shinsou every time he appears, so he was probably training him.

Class B was supposed to be the same quality as class A to begin with but with the experiences and random luck class A rose high above. This just validates his frustration a lot more. They're all new students but class A got all of the attention and all of the praise.

True. That's why Tetsutetsu went to go fight the villains in the last episode. He knows Class A is better since they have experience with the villains. Ida, Todoroki and Izuku are all improving mentally because of that.

Shinso was, narratively, an antagonist. Categorically, in-universe, he isn't a villain, but in the plot, he gets to be interesting and contribute to the themes of the story, and then he's finished. Just like Stain, and Muscular, and (later in the manga) Gentle. All of these have in common the thematic relevance, further exploring different perspectives of the flawed society presented in heroaca. So although his presence was short-lived, I wouldn't say he's a filler character.

His arc-relevance was short lived, but I really don't think we've seen the last of Shinso.
Or Monoma, for that matter, since we're currently having ALL of class 1-B at least somewhat developped in the current arc :)
I would’ve preferred if he was actually a villain. he gave me vibes of that one guy in captain America: civil war called Zemo, a man shrouded in mystery, making moves behind the scenes in order to destroy the avengers by turning them against each other (in which he succeeded to)He was a great manipulative mastermind in my opinion. If only Shinso was given a role equivalent to that, he would’ve made this show a lot more interesting than it is

hell probably get some focus later, as it seems to be how the author approaches handling having so many good characters. but yeah I think its cause we took his one character trait seriously...and then the manga to show that that's his ONE character trait and make him a joke, we just didn't realise he was a joke character to begin with.

I really hope they do put him into class 1-B. Not only would it be interesting to see that the rivalry class gets Shinso but I’d also love to see his quirk in battle again, but this time with villains. Maybe he would make a big impact in the class and get them just as much attention as class 1-A.
In my opinion, these guys aren't necessarily filler characters. Especially now that 1-B is getting more screen time with the training camp arc, and Shinsou is shown in the manga walking alongside Aizawa with larger arms than he had in the tournament arc, and literally breaking chunks of wood with his bare hands in the training camp arc (suggesting Aizawa's training him to be physically stronger. Why they don't show this in the anime is a mystery to me), there's still hope for them in the future. Perhaps as rivals to Midoriya and Bakugou? Maybe someone's going to die in the class, and they may need a replacement? Or maybe Mineta gets his comeuppance and is kicked from the hero course and they need a new purple kid to replace him (my favourite theory)? Who knows. Storytellers work in mysterious ways, and maybe introducing characters as minor characters and slowly bringing them to the spotlight is one of those amazing ways of writing a character.

Read the manga, you'll see how much of a great hero he is, doesn't even come close to being a perv.
I feel the main point of Shinso was to show that even U.A. the biggest/best hero school (in the world?) is flawed. Outside of getting recommended, which still seems to have some sort of test, the only way to get into the hero course is to have a flashy quirk with combat capabilities. We know that the entrance exam involves a written test and a combat test. You seem to have to get decent scores in both to pass. But the flaw that Shinso shows us is that the combat test essentially acts like a filter, the filter being the robots. Someone like Shinso who would be an extremely powerful hero was barred from joining the hero course simply because his quirk only effects humans. The test could have also barred Monoma if it was set up as one at a time seeing as he needs to touch someone else to borrow their quirk. Quirks that only effect humans/living things are useless by the tests design. And this whole flaw is made even worse by the fact that it hasn't been fixed. Especially given that both Midnight and Eraserhead are teachers.
Well, I don't think they have used the Robots for every entrance exams. It's more than likely the most recent one to be used. Also Mineta passed and Shinso didn't... I call that a crime against human decency.
ThinkAboutItMan,InACosmicSortaWayWeAreAllAssholes The creator explained in an extra page in the manga that mineta passed because he gunked up the robots with his sticky balls. You either had to defeat or immobilize the robots.
I know. It makes sense that he passed and it makes sense that Shinso didn't... that doesn't make it a good, fair or just system of judging would be HEROES. Though it does make sense, doesn't mean I have to like it.
That... was the whole point of my original comment. That even the best/greatest hero school is still flawed and that Shinso was most likely created to showcase it.

I find Shinsou a very interesting character & where they go with it. Monoma annoying as he is, I kinda like him as the unlucky you can't help but pity. Although I like him because he is the prideful underdog of a class of actual underdogs.

I really like the idea behind Monoma's quirk, if it wasn't already used not once, but TWICE (Because all for one), when somebody asks what my quirk would be, I would probably say something like Monoma's. I want there to be some kind of huge fight scene with dozens of weaker villains - like the one Eraser Head fought at the USJ, for example - and have Monoma just show the full potential of his quirk. Like, imagine it, Monoma taunts one of them, they rush at him, he deflects their punch, and then uses the villains quirk, let's say it's telekinesis for instance, to slam him into the ground, then fight for a couple seconds until he sees a stronger quirk, which is when he uses his copied telekinesis to pull the villain towards him and take his quirk - I really want a giant Monoma fight, so badly, because of how awesome it could be! Even in a supporting role, he could tap Tetsutetsu on the shoulder and become metal before taking down several enemies at once, run by Bakugon and start blowing people up, the possibilities are nearly endless! He might be my favorite character in terms of potential, with my actual favorite character being Deku and my favorite "side character" being . . . Probably Stain or Aizawa. That's not the point. The point is, I want a big Monoma fight scene. Make it happen.

Shinso Is a character that i would be fine with if he doesnt really play a huge role ever. I think his character arc is self containing and doesnt need more exploration (not that i wouldnt like more). His character is the best to show that in this world, Quirk =/= morals. Someone with a quirk that would be good for heroics or rescue doesnt mean they will be good and a sinister quirk doesnt make a villain. He story informs us about the world, societal values and how individuals can act within those or subvert them. Good character, Interesting backstory, informs us about the world of the story.
Monoma is a character I hope gets a little more love for me to be satisfied with him. His main characteristic, jealousy, need to be affected by his interactions with Class A or their actions. The simplest way to solve this problem is for him to witness how much good Class A is doing and realize that which class they are shouldnt matter, but what should matter is how much good they do. this could lead to fun future character actions like Him trying to be overly polite and good to show that he is a better person than anyone in Class A. He could be really intense about it to the point of making people uncomfortable. This way his characteristic of being jealous isnt fully solved but it is changed in a way that furthers his character. Also his quirk is really useful and could be used in interesting ways to affect story events. This is something I hope happens after the Training Camp arc because all the pieces are there.
I was worried about when Monoma touched Deku in the cafeteria I thought he'd run off somewhere and blow all his limbs off trying to use one for all now that would have been interesting

I was so taken aback from the moment I saw him and heard his voice, this dude HAD MY ATTENTION, he not only was casted and written masterfully, but his character design is really eye catching in a subtle way.

I think the best ending to shinsou's arc for the sports festival is the fan story that a lot of fan artists have been doing, where Mr. Aizawa takes him under his wing
the biggest problem of the series for me is how the most interesting side characters gets no love

Literally the entire point of their introductions-- both Shinso and Monoma-- is that their quirks don't need to be such direct, physical effects like in 1-A-- in fact Shinso's entire introductory arc is "not all quirks are distributed, or hailed, equally"-- and even Aizawa mentions that the tests for the school aren't terribly practical as they discount applicants like Shinso whose quirk isn't properly tested against automatons.
Literally the entire point of both of them is strictly that 'quirks don't need to shoot things or turn you into superman to be demonstrably powerful.' Monoma a little less so and more to introduce him as the anti-1-A gag, but it's definitely front and center for Shinso that his quirk does not need to damage the physical world to be useful.
Pro heroes start lauding Shinso's incredible power right after he LOSES to Deku. I can't imagine how much further from the point you could be with the term 'useless.'

I still cannot believe that Ms Joke, the first character to ever be critical of UA's biased system, is introduced right after Shinsou, a character who is being actively harmed by said biased system, and then Hori does nothing with either of them.

Honestly, I feel like part of the Monoma-Shinso pay-offs are only coming up now.
Mostly Monoma, which in a lot of ways contrasts with Bakugo really well and is always fun to see partly because of that.

How is Kirishima so low on the ranking, best boi. Easily my favorite character in the series, if you've read through the manga and understand his backstory, you'd know why. Very relate-able character who is very similar to Deku in his upbringing, and goals.
Are you referring to the popularity poll he showed? That was the first popularity poll. He was ranked #5 on the second poll, and on the third poll he was #4, the only ones ahead of him were the big three (Bakugo, Todoroki and Deku) so he's thankfully gotten what he deserved.

Both of their characters were influenced by society's quirk discrimination. They categorized Shinso as a future villain & Monoma as a parasite.

monama is revealed to be very supportive of his class but uh we dont really see that side of him at all
I think his very supportive with his class in general. He doesn't tell his classmates that they should do this or that but rather he encourages them. Heck, in the recent episode he even commented that Shemage should've been the one they should be worried about and not everyone else as she is much more dangerous than Kuroiro himself. Later on in the manga when Tokage failed to handle class 1A, he even expresses that she doesn't need to apologize to him but instead told her that even though they may have lost the battle, they haven't lost the war just yet. What's more better is that the reason as to why he is like this is because he was told back then when he was still a kid that he couldn't be a frontline kind of hero but instead only a supporting type of hero. Same way how Shinso was told back then that his quirk is a favorite amongst villains. If given a proper storyline apart from his usual antics, we could totally see a new side of Monoma the that doesn't involve him always getting the butt of the joke but rather actually rising to the occasion and somewhat be a main character for a bit.
