What's the worst trade your team has made?
Saad for Panarin
Why was his comment 6 hrs ago
The Eric Karlsson Trade
Forsberg for Erat and Latta 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
seguin for 3 years of a washed loui eriksson
But the fact that we got Jordan Eberle for Ryan Strome is crazy, just straight highway robbery
Compared to Ryan Strome last year i dont know
@@thatguy108 these guys idiots ignore them
I really miss Ebs :(
But I am happy to see him get success on the isles, and happy to see him not get hounded by the Edm media.
@@thatguy108 ryan strome is nothing without panarin.
imagine being such a shit GM that you get repeatedly fleeced by garth snow. even so, milbury has to be worse. i'm not sure which deal is worse, ottawa or florida.
@@doaftheloaf You are being stupid. In Panarin's leave of absence Strome did well. He is close to point per game
6:22 the islanders had a 19 SERIES winning streak, not 19 games.
Whoops. Thanks dude
@@RobTalksHockey Still very impressive. Thanks for all the good videos you bring!
To think it couldn’t be even more impressive...
Lol i was gonna say... you only need 16 wins for the cup. Thanks for clarifying, i didnt even think about it being over several years either.
Peter Chiarelli is not welcome in Edmonton and if he did try come come back we'll have our pitchforks ready
Every NHL city better get them out if they see him coming!
sad thing is that as of March 2021, the Oilers lost good NHL players Hall, Barzal, Petry, Schultz, Eberle, Strome and Caggula and all they have to show on the NHL roster in return is Larsson, Kassian and Caleb Jones! 7 out, 3 in. that's the reason why the Oilers aren't as yet serious cup contenders!
And procession of dimwits that preceded him get a free pass? Chiarelli wasn’t perfect but he was still far better than McTavish, Tambellini and Lowe (the true architects of the suck). He at least got us moving in the right direction finally.
@@rjay-d2335 yes, Chia absolutely got the ball rolling in the right direction despite his mostly awful trades, and to his 100% credit he was partly responsible for the great drafts from ‘15 to ‘19 that had restocked the system! And I give no credit at all for anything but failure to the likes of MacT and Tambo !! 👎🏻
@@rjay-d2335 Chiarelli? Is that you?
Don't forget after acquiring Lucic they traded him to Calgary for James Neal and wound up retaining 15% of the contract of Lucic. Which they ended up buying out james neal.
I have always liked The Oilers but the Management for years has been like an anchor.
@@martytruelove5026 True, and I'm an Oiler fan but I'd have to say that Milbury's trades were worse!! And the amount of money thrown around by I assume GM Garth Snow? was astounding!!
To be fair, they traded Lucic _because_ they could buy out James Neal if things went badly. Lucic's contract, on the other hand, was buyout proof. That was their logic to that trade. And to be fair to both teams, both players did improve for a little while after the trade.
Tough one but Mad Mike is the WOAT. Worst Of All Time. His record will never be duplicated.
he basically had what would have been the 80s NYI and said nah
Peter Chiarelli was GM of Boston when they won the cup and yet everyone obstinately refuse to believe it was completely fixed from the start of that season...
Yessir I’m in school but I’m still going to watch. I never miss a RTH vid

it's nice being a sabres fan, and coming to watch a video about painful hockey franchises, and not seeing yours mentioned for once.
This is the kinda positivity I need (coupled with the Sabres not playing for the rest of the season).
You gotta love those Bills too. 4 Superbowl losses in a row had never and will never be done again.
im a bruins fan and i love don sweeney but we missed out on barzal and chabot imagine if the bruins had chabot with mcavoy.
not a bruins fan but that would've been sick to see not gonna lie. they could've been unstoppable
The Bruins really dropped the ball in the 2015 draft with the 13th and 15th overall picks.
@@jackb9830 Not sure that 14th pick is going to be as good as what they could have got... Barzel, Connor, Chabot, Aho, Koknecky? Hell Zboril may turn out to be a better player than Debrusk long term..
Have replayed that draft in my head for years. Every now and then firing a bruins franchise with 3 different picks in those spots or just completely redrafting 2015... Historic misses where made as with any other 3 players taken in those spots we are looking at a potential dynasty. Chabot, Connor and Barzal on the B's come on...
Don’t forget Connor the goat
I’m not watching this video, i’m just sad- Oilers Fan
So in 2019 I was a DJ in a stripclub in Edmonton near Rogers Place - now if the games went well then drinks would flow and customers would party - a lot of money to be made. 2019 was such a slow quiet disaster because of Chiarelli that one of the loudest greatest pops I ever got from the crowd - after an awful loss (i think to Detroit?) - at 12:05am I announced that Chiarelli had been fired. The room roared and we went from what felt like a funeral to what turned out to be a decent money night for a weekday.
As an islanders fan, that milbury segment was equal parts funny and painful
Craig MacTavish traded Petry away. He also refused to sign Petry a long term deal when Petry wanted one instead giving him a one year prove yourself deal where it took him to UFA right away. Petry would also be healthy scratched in his third game that season unreservedly to send Petry a message. It basically ensured Petry would be on his way out.
The way I see it, Edmonton was so inept the last decade, I can only rationalize it by thinking they intentionally ruined themselves hunting for 1st overall drafts picks and then completely forgot how to win and build a team.
Been watching you for months man, always love the quality and presentation of the videos! Keep it up! Great inspiration :D
Thanks my dude!
@@RobTalksHockey Absolutely! Have a good one!!

@@Bushy_P they need a goalie to stand any chance, and they've flat-out refused to address it.
@@doaftheloaf who would be your choice to fill that hole?
The worst trade EVER happened in May of 1967. The Chicago Blackhawks traded Phil Esposito, Ken Hodge and Fred Stanfield to the Boston Bruins for Pit Marin, Giles Marotte and a minor league goalie. Esposito became an all time great with Boston. Hodge scored over 400 career goals-- most of them with the Bruin and Stanfield was a good two way center. Pit Marin was a decent player for Hawks--but no better than Stanfield. Marotte and the minor league goalie were both busts.. Great as Bobby Orr was if this trade had NEVER been made Boston would not have won Stanley Cups in 1970 and 1972. Chicago would have won those championships and probably others. That trade added to Bobby Orr's greatness and took away from Bobby Hull''s greatness.
Great vid love the beginning/intro! and the background music!

The post-Niall Yakupov era! I remember Lucic at that presser who was told by his ex-Bruin teammate Johnny Boychuk about growing up in Edmonton. He was sold on that rather than Chiarelli.

8:45 "he was payed like Wayne Gretzky" Gretzky was payed $1 Mil
Back in the day Gretzky and many other stars had stakes in the team. Even though their contract was lower, they had far more potential to earn more than players today. Which is also why the NHL introduced the salary cap
Is irt just me or does Chiarelli look like Megamind?
slight correction: the isles won 19 *series* in a row, not 19 *games* in a row
So true that it takes years for a trade to declare a winner. For example the oilers trading Gretzky is still evolving today.
The Brian Burke and Dave Nonis era of the Leafs still gives me nightmares
Burkie wasn’t as bad as John F. Jr though
One caveat about the Milbury tenure with the NYI: the ownership of the team during that time might be the worst in NHL history. More than a few folks have suggested that DiPietro's massive contract was due to the owner at the time pushing Milbury to offer that deal.
This is definitely a forgotten piece of history. There was so much wrong with the Milburry era. Slightly off-topic but I love the fisherman jerseys from that time but the ownership thinking they needed a rebrand because they lost to the rangers via sweep in 94 was absolutely ridiculous. Just another fact about that time and if they overreacted about branding that just goes to show how they couldn’t handle a hockey team.
yeah looks like a Sopranos kind of mess
For Leaf fans worst trade is almost impossible to determine. Trading away top draft picks, trading away Sittler, MacDonald, trading away top prospects, trading has often been as bad as the time they refused to draft Joe Sakic.
What we can learn is if you win 4-5 cups in a short window your team is karmically destined to hire a GM that will return balance to the force
Imagine Barzal,Hall and Eberle/Strome as a second line...
WOULD YOU RATHER:
a) New York Islanders team with J.P. Dumont, Chris Osgood, Dustin Brown/Ryan Kesler/Zach Parise/Corey Perry, Dany Heatley/Marian Gaborik, Bryan Berard, Bryan McCabe, Todd Bertuzzi, Zdeno Chara, Jason Spezza, Zigmund Palffy, Bryan Smolinski, and Roberto Luongo?
b) The Edmonton Oilers consisting of a healthy Andrej Sekera, Drake Caggiula, Justin Schultz, Jordan Eberle, Mathew Barzal, Taylor Hall, Connor McDavid, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Leon Draisaitl, Oscar Klefbom, and Darnell Nurse
c) The Toronto Maple Leafs consisting of Tuukka Rask, Rick Nash/James van Riemsdyk, Tyler Seguin, Dougie Hamilton, Morgan Rielly, Nazem Kadri, and Luke Schenn
a) for sure!
Important also is that when Edmonton drafted Nail Yakupov, Nikita Kucherov way second overal...... Also they had Devan Dubnyk, but traded him away for 6th round if I remember well.
Great Channel, Very Well Made!🏒🥅🔥
The fact Chirelli is in the conversation for worst game with Mad Mike Milbury explains so much why oilers are only last two seasons recovering from his messes.....
At least the Griffyn trade made a little sense... got a 4th overall pick they’d ranked 2nd that year that they thought would step in sooner then waiting 4 years for whomever they drafted and for that 15th overall wasn’t that bad a price had he not been completely wrong!
Stan Bowman has...
Traded his top defensemen for pretty much NOTHING
Traded a top goalie (Robin Lehner) for an AHL "potential" starter
DIDN'T re-sign a hall of fame bound goalie
Traded a top forward for a defensive defenseman (They desperately need more offense)
I love the Millbury review .. he was under a lot of pressure by the brand new owners to make a splash and that turned into Yashin and Michael Peca. That having been said they probably could've gotten him for a lot less
How the fuck does a GM trade himself for a player??? I didn't know it was possible.
With Chiarelli, I don't know if he made that pick, but Yakupov was 1st and 2nd was Nikita Kucherov btw. And they even had Dubnyk as a goalie once, eventhough he isn't good now, he used to be.......
great video, would love to see more like it
Just imagine having Barzal and McDavid on the same line it would be epic, the Hall trade was a disaster they should have gotten a 1st or 2nd round pick added to that trade at the very least.
Just imagine mcdavid, draisital, eberle, hall, and Matt barzal in your top 6, that’s scary
@@Michaelepsmith True - but could they have paid and kept all of them?
As an Isles fan the Milburry era PAINS me and I wasn’t even alive yet. I think Chiarelli did a worse job because I think a lot of the team was already in place and all he had to do was not fuck it up. They both traded away good pieces for poor return but the Islanders were already rebuilding. Trading away prospects for NHL ready pieces/stars happens every year. The one that baffles me is the Luongo/DiPietro situation. You just didn’t need to do it and you could’ve had Dany Heatley in 2000. Terrible decision making.
thanks for the content rob !!!
Thanks dude!
Barzal was pick 16 but awesome video bro
I think it’s an easy decision between the two. Chiarelli may have had a terrible stint in Edmonton but he did win a Cup in Boston. If you’re going to measure the entire work of a GM, you have to talk about his Boston years.
Millbury was the epitome of suckage. His decisions still impact the Islanders. He traded Chara, Luongo, Jokinen, Pallfy, and Spezza for little return. He spent fortunes on Yashin in decline. He did the same for an unproven DiPietro. Milbury left the Islanders in shambles. Chiarelli left Edmonton at the bottom disappointing expectations but with a core that has the ability to win a Cup in the next few years if things go right.
The fact that Pete Chiarelli has had a job as GM (for MULTIPLE years, on MULTIPLE organizations)…
is honestly an insult to any person who is only just DECENT at Franchise/GM Mode on EA Sports NHL video games
How about the Harold Ballard-Imlach Leaf era? Traded away Lanny, Sittler, and let Salming walk. Traded for every old vet out there like Secord for Vaive, Steve Thomas. Then Devils traded Kurvers to Leafs in '89 for Leafs first (a bid to get Lindros) in '91 draft that turned into Scott Neidermeyer. Or Serge Savard-Houle 90's Hab era trading away Chelios for D. Savard in '90. Leclair and Desjardins to Flyers for Recci. Patrick Roy to Av's in '95 for 3 scrubs. And countless bad draft picks in the 90's.
It’s 2023 and so much has happened with the Oilers since this video came out.
Going to need to make a new one of this with Chuck Fletcher
Bergivins only horrendous trade that I can think of is Drouin for Sergachev. All the others over time have seemed to work out.
When I heard about the trade, I literally cried
I would say the Flames worst trade, was the 10-player deal in 1990(1991? I forget) that sent Gilmour to Toronto. The Iginla trade to Pitts was also very bad though. Kidd for Brodeur (sorta.. technically draft pick swaps).
You had me laughing the whole way through! Both were brutal, tough to decide who is more brutal! Millbury must have been getting paid from an outside source. Come on, how bad can you possibly be?
“Burger man”😂😂😂
Not a Oiler fan at all but sometimes you have to trade guys like Eberle cuz you've maxed out what they'll give you. Then the traded player often picks up his play elsewhere and makes you look bad. What you get in return for them is another story. probably poor decisions there.
One of the big problems in Edmonton is patience is near nil. The media and fans are all over the team/GM/coach if things aren't great. I think that has an impact and why the oilers seem to always be in 5 game win streaks or 5 game losing streaks.
Mmmm talk about the burger man I'm hungry
To be fair, I think the Larsson for Hall has worked out for the Oil; but he could’ve got a prospect thrown in as well. I still weep thinking of how good Barzel would look in the top 6. The picks for Talbot paid off for a two seasons until Talbot had kids and started a worrying trend of stinking at home (twin babies, no sleep) and letting in the first shot he faced for at least 10 games of one season.
Looks like Larsson is doing all the scoring that Hall is this year. Everyone has to move on from this trade, Edmonton actually did well. How could they even sign Hall and his 2 goals this year without a huge cap raise.
Peter Chiarelli was absolutely terrible in Boston too.
Joe Thornton, Phil Kessel, Blake Wheeler and Tyler Seguin for Matt Bartkowski, Loui Eriksson, Alexander Fallstrom, Matt Fraser, Dougie Hamilton, Alexander Khokhlachev, Jared Knight, Joe Morrow, Dennis Seidenberg and Reilly Smith.
Hamilton isn't even on the team either. Another bad trade. 🤦🏻♂️
I didnt need to see this on this Monday morning
Haha!

Before I watch...Bobby Clarke and Paul Homer Holmgren teamed up for like 20 years of garbage. The 1 day outlier were the Carter and Richard's trades but Homer used the cap space to sign Bryz so it's not much more than a wash. His moves as team President were just as bad...
As someone from Edmonton, this hurts to watch
Thinking of the Petry trade tree lol
This would be more realistic if it were just about a team making horrible choices for 56 years is the Leafs. I can not even remember a fraction of the horrible trades but they gave up a 1st to get rid of Marleau who I never understood giving him a 6.5 m contract! They gave up a 1st and 3rd to get 2 players who played 30 games then left, O-Rielly and Acciari. Before that there was the Foligno trade where we lost a 1st and more for a guy who played less then 30 games then left. Also recently traded Sandin for a 1st we used on Easton Cowan? A undersized center who no analyst even had on his draft list at any position? Oh ya TO also got a half decent defense in that trade Gustaffson that they never used and just let walk as UFA. Then they re-sign Keefe , just plain to say he is not a NHL coach. Most pathetic team in the NHL as far as management goes is TO hands down.
Spezza and Chara still playing almost 20 years after that deal. Yashin deal made sense when you figure in the Peca trade (for Connoly and Pyatt) was made same draft weekend in '01. Isles went toe to toe with Leafs until Leafs Tucker submarining Peca in knees (he was never the same after that) in playoffs plus Roberts concussing Jonsson same playoff sending him back to Europe for good at '04 lock-out submarined the Isles chances. The $$$ and term of that deal made no sense. Yashin couldn't match up to it and choked on that deal.
Chara and Spezza for Yashin WAS a terrible deal for the Isles (as a Sens fan). Put aside Yashin's drama...Yashin for ONE of those players would have been a stretch.
Drafting Stuart Skinner was Peters best move
I knew before the video peter chareli was on this this list
A second line of Hall - Barzal - Eberle would provide decent secondary scoring right now.
Draisatl - McDavid - Kassian
Hall - Barzal - Eberle
Yeah that might solve 99% of their issues haha!
The end of Lou Lamareillo tenure in New Jersey was frustrating to watch. We did draft some promising looking forwards but he never gave them a chance to get in the team. Instead of allowing the rebuild to happen he signed old veterans on 1 year deals. We would have been better off playing the prospects to let them get some experience. He postponed the eventual rebuild yes, but instead of being a bottom team for a couple of years and having bounced back by now, we became a bottom team for several consecutive years, slowly regaining the glory.
Under Lamoriello's management, the Devils, who had been barely competitive for their first five years in New Jersey, became one of the most successful teams in the NHL. The Devils made the Stanley Cup playoffs all but three times between 1988 and 2012, qualified for five Stanley Cup Finals (in 1995, 2000, 2001, 2003, and 2012) and won the Stanley Cup three times (in 1995, 2000, and 2003)
He also helped turn around The Isles.
how can you even mention that name when talking about worst GM in NHL history?
The craziest part of that Stahl trade is like you mentioned, Sutter (sucked) and a high pick (bust) and some guy for jordan... in hind sight... that guy was brian dumoulin, the Pens top pair d man for like the last 6 or so years... so I guess you win some you loose some.
I loathe Chiarelli after trading Seguin as a Boston fan. As a Flames fan as well, I love that he's in Edmonton!
Can you imagine Di Pietro signing the contract and thinking these nutjobs are going to pay me this much? Lol
Need to add Chuck Fletcher of the MN wild spending 98 million (each) for a 13 year NO TRADE contract for Parise and Suter. This insane contract is known as "the day the MN wild Died (July 4th 2012)
Paul Fenton needs to be on here. besides bringing in Kevin Fiala, he had one of the worst 14 Month Track Records Ever. from Trading Niederitter for Victor Rask, to trading Charlie Coyle for Ryan Donato, to Signing Zucc to a 5 Year contract worth 6Mill per as a 32 Year old, to Absuing and harassing Minnesota Wild staff behind the scenes... it was an Absolute Shitshow.
The Zuccarello contract is fine now
Chia should get the title, but let's face it, Milbury will have that title til the end of days. Chia was a contender though, make no mistake about it. He came this close to grabbing that title for himself. Honestly though, the Reinhart deal still hurts. I winced so hard when they announced it that I thought for sure I broke my face. Man I knew that was gonna make for a bad deal.
Nice ending 😂

Arizona's GM's have to take the cake for perpetual ineptitude. Even though they have a budget and they never come close to signing the maximum 50 contracts allowed at any given time, how long does it take to see at least playoff contention?
Gee thanks Chiarelli for the reason the thumbnail is even there in the first place
Its hard to say which is worse between the two. On one hand, Chiarelli knew the talent he was giving away for pucks. Eberle, and Hall were already established as good players. On the other hand, its more a hindsight is 2020 scenario giving away Chara, Luongo, and Bertuzzi. They weren't established and already good, they developed into good players. Also with contracts, Lucic and Koskinen is bad but NOWHERE close to the Yashin and Dipietro contracts. For me Millbusty is the worst of all time.
1. Chairelli
2. Millbury
3. Holland
Absolutely insane (Oilers) when you put it side by side altogether
This was a great video. I am gonna have to say Chiarelli did a worse job but is for sure close.
Petry was an upcoming UFA. It was certainly not "shocking" that he got traded. We all knew that was going to happen.
The Hall-Larsson trade isn't as bad as people think. Since the traded to New Jersey, Hall has been with New Jersey, Arizona, Buffalo and now Boston while Lasson is still with the Oilers and may even sign an extension to stay an Oiler. He loves it with the Oilers.
Mellbarry at least tried to build a good team and went for first round picks, Peter I have no idea the fuck he was doing
While I wish the Oilers kept Petry, they didn’t trade him for exactly nothing. Caleb Jones has potential, and that 2nd was the main piece in trading for Talbot(which they at least got a playoff run with). Not a good trade, but at the very least they didn’t get snake biten like Peter’s other moves
All of Brian Burke’s time with Toronto should be on there, including the first Phil Kessel trade that sent him to Toronto for 2 1st round picks (Tyler Seguin and Dougie Hamilton)
Man the Leafs were so bad then they gave up the goalie too forgot his name now to Boston.
