I dock the switch as much as I can. It feels better for games like botw, and the resolution increases. I also keep my switch screen clean, very rarely ever use the touch screen, and constantly clean the dust when I'm in handheld mode. Honestly the biggest contributors to playing more on docked is bcause the Joy-cons make your hands get sore after a while in handheld, in docked, this isn't as much of an issue, since most of the time you'll be using the grip. For me, I also use docked mode more since I don't have to worry about dirtying the screen.

They neglect to mention. Because the switch lite is a slightly smaller screen, The 720 picture quality is a little bit sharper than on the regular switch. What’s up basically means is while the switch does have a bigger screen for 720p play,

@cupcakeowlowo3086 Yes, the bezels on the screen have to stretch out more with bigger screens, which technically stretches the images, like when you notice a difference between wide screen mode and full screen mode. So the smaller the better, which is actually better for watching movies on phones. Tbh, my phone runs 4k, and it is phenomenal with movies and CZcams videos.

@Narutothe7thH I think it just depends on your use case. I personally got the standard switch so that I could hop back and forth from tv to handheld. It also helps because I can map the joycons to my gaming apps when I want to run emulators. The biggest difference between handheld and mounted is that the Switch tunes up the display to 1080p when mounted. If you just want a solely handheld device or don't plan on playing any 2 players, I would get the switch lite.
Having had both, I appreciate the bigger Switch screen, but, the Switch Lite is by far the better designed console.
What do you recommend for traveling and on the go?

That's right! Also i prefer to play the switch lite. It's a great handheld. Way better then the cluncky original one. The original makes my hands hurt after playing long enough. So a great reason to buy it if you want to play it only in handheld mode. My old switch is now considered my home console. I can play all my downloaded games on both devices. The bad thing is that if you use your account on 2 or more switches you can only play games with WiFi connection. So my Switch lite is now the standard and i put my old Switch on WiFi because that's one to play with at home. So perhaps it's better to own both.

I'm only saying that i prefer the Switch Lite better as a handheld. Really you should try it for yourself. Otherwise i would advice to buy a handgrip for the OG Switch. I can't imagine people playing it without making their hands hurt after a while. Anyway try too read the full comment next time and merry christmas.

I got a lite before the regular. I prefer my lite for portability and because of the D Pad and softer buttons. The regular is nice for the removable joycons but I almost always use it docked.

People are clearly missing the point... The Nintendo Switch Lite is like the Nintendo DS: a portable, small, and personal gaming device you can fit almost anywhere and take almost anywhere you wanna go.
Edit: The Switch Lite is also a smaller version of the Switch, and it’s for people who want to spend a little bit less of a budget. It’s also for people who prefer to play in just handheld mode, and don’t like to play on the TV. I, myself, have the normal Nintendo Switch, and I’d prefer the Switch Lite, because I don’t play it on my TV that often. The Switch Lite is also for people who don’t wanna play with friends, and just like to play by themself. It’s also for people who want almost the same features as the normal Switch, and want to play the same games as a normal Switch, but want to spend a little less money on a gaming console. It’s also Nintendo’s way of putting one of the cheapest gaming consoles on the market, and they get a TON of more money from that.
Hope this helped you in choosing between a Nintendo Switch, and a Nintendo Switch Lite.

2nd edit: this comment is old, i am aware that the switch oled is out, and i have the switch oled because my switch broke. the switch lite is still considerable, but i’d just get a normal switch used/open box as they are cheaper now to be fair.. or just save up a lil bit more money and get a switch brand new or spend an extra 50 bucks and get yourself a nice oled
GachaDomi yeah. It’s just supposed to be a portable version of the switch for people who like travel a lot or something. Even though the Switch itself is portable it’s a bit big so you’d need like a big bag/purse or a case with a strap. I don’t travel a lot (especially because of Coronavirus) so a Switch would be awesome so I can play with my dad. A standard switch is perfect for me and my family while a switch lite is more of a traveler’s console or just people who can spend a lot of money
GachaDomi DSI XL were pretty big too, but I would still rather have the original switch, you have practically all that practicality and portability but with a bit of a bigger screen and slightly more ergonomic feel, which can go tv mode when needed, and also detachable joy cons is cool, switch lite is a bit better for portability and would be a better option for those just dedicated to a good handheld, cheaper too

the switch lite was literally created to a whole different kind of person: the ppl that played 3DS wanted something portable, just like their old console, that's definitely my type since I don't think that if I had the classic switch, I would play on my tv. I actually have a PS4 so I literally do not need the classic switch, just a device that can replace my 3DS without being a huge console :)

I'm playing smash bros. A dude walks over and asks to play. I say square up and then there is a manly and intense stare down and crowds of people get hype af to see the duel commence. We each pull out our original gamecube pro controllers and duke it out. The crowds cheer in excitement as the battle continues. Finally, it ends, we shake hands, congratulate each other in a good manner, and go our seperate ways after getting each other's numbers to battle another time(yes, exactly like Pokemon).

I think one of the main issues with the lite version is not being able to replace the joycons if they stick or break where as you can easily on the dock version which they don't add in this video but truth is those break on the lite and your done
personally i *love* handheld gaming systems and don’t really want to play on a big tv which is why i have a switch lite. it’s also a great way to get out of having to do multiplayer with your siblings when you don’t want to tbh.

graison cox that depends on what games, almost all games can be played on both consoles but there are some games that you can only play on the classic switch bc you need the controllers (expect if you buy the classic controllers for the lite but there’s literally no point of doing that bc it’ll cost you more than the classic switch itself ahah)

Exactly, Nintendo didn't need to make it unable to connect to a tv at all. They should have atleast have a optinion to connect it by buying a separate cable. This Lite b/s lost so much value, when one main selling point was the longer battery. Than when the Switch V2 was released doubling its battery life in handheld mode, makes the Lite even less appealing.
why would you need the IR sensor on the nintendo switch lite
Admittedly, I have both the regular V2 switch and the lite. I like to use my V2 switch for playing on the TV and the lite for playing in handheld mode in bed or out somewhere. The regular switch is not heavy; per say but my arms do get tired of holding it during play sessions in handheld mode.

if you won't ever connect the console to the tv, i recommend the lite. if you want a bigger display and you want to connect it to the tv, get the switch. i contemplated on getting the switch or the switch lite BUT speaking for myself, i won't ever want to connect my console to the tv. the lite is perfect for me! this is basically just for myself at home and in car rides. got mine last week and it's awesome. the quality, the comfort, the build, the price, it's everything i wanted!! i have it in coral and it's the best thing. if you're looking for a cheap high-quality console for any kind of gaming, whether that's serious gaming or you're just wanting to have some fun, GET THE LITE. you won't regret it!
This is what I'm thinking. I don't have a smart TV and, to be sincere, the only interesting feature of the switch for me is having the joy-cons. But they had a lot of issues and I'll play by myself most of the time. So Lite is the perfect option for me!

My original Switch died. I was going to get a newer Switch but they were all sold out so I had to get the Lite. It’s honestly not terrible. The only lame thing is that JoyCon drift, that’s happening with my JoyCons, that could happen to this. 🤷🏻♀️

My switch came with Mario Kart and it's really easy to get bored of unless you complete in tournaments, and play with friends. Same thing with new horizions, it's just that it has really cool stuff in it

The big reasons I see for getting a Nintendo Switch Lite are definitely the weight and portability of the system which makes it easier to carry in a pocket and makes it more enjoyable to carry wherever you go 😯
However, since it's a portable exclusive, I recommend purchasing it if a friend has their own Nintendo Switch📱or Switch Lite system so you can play with them. Otherwise it could be difficult to find playmates, as it happened to me with my Nintendo 2DS.
Other than that, if you consider buying it for your two kids, 2 Nintendo Switch lite could be a good opportunity allowing them to play more comfortably with each other on any place than it would be having them use two controllers on the small screen of the regular Nintendo Switch; though that would mean spending more money on the consoles and games.
(But hey 😁 I had a lot of fun when my brother and I had the opportunity to play in 2 portable play stations [PSP] back in the early 2000s. So it's a decision that I encourage for a pair of siblings or close friends 😁)
Do consider, if you enjoy or are looking forward to playing games with motion controls (such tennis games and golf games) or if you prefer a homeconsole experience over a portable gaming experience, the standard Nintendo Switch will cover you better.

Portability winner: the larger one. Price winner: the more expensive model.
Well, the Switch won for price because it has more to offer and is therefore a better choice for your money. It's better to pay a little bit extra for A LOT more functions than to pay less for something that has way less functions.
As for portability, you can only hold the Lite, whereas the Switch can stand on its own and be held as well. Plus with the Switch you can play together, but with the Lite you depend on others having a console too (or you'll have to keep playing in turns).
So honestly I'm not surprised the Switch both in both those categories.

As a person who is always on the go, barely spends time at home, and doesn’t have many people who would play with (lol). I highly recommend the Switch Lite. Its portability makes it a great buy. Also, its ability to play games that you would normally play on a console (For me a PS4) is also a huge plus in my book since I’m always out working, at school, or just killing time. 10/10 overall!

Another thing is the price of joycons are $80 so for $20 more you get better stats and ability to dock. Not to mention down the road, sellability can come into play but then the slide part on the dock version can get loose and just the same, your done. But you can still always dock it. Even if the screen spiders everywhere you can still play
I had to get myself a second regular Switch in order to test out how it plays in handheld mode. Here's what I found out of playing both that and the Switch Lite:
The regular Switch has a bigger screen and controls you can swap out, detach, and even replace if they get broken.
The Switch Lite, on the other hand, is easier on the hands due to its compact size and lighter weight. It also feels rather solid due to the controls being part of the system instead of being detachable.
So which should you get? Regular Switch if you want a bigger screen, or Switch Lite if you want a lighter system to hold. But if you want to play it exclusively in handheld mode, get the Switch Lite.
You're telling me that, while I can connect just about any Tablet to a TV, via a Mini-HDMI Port, Nintendo couldn't be bothered to add a small port to the Switch Lite?
It's ment for the more portable user it also saves space hence the smaller form factor
with today`s tech nintendo could easily change the mainboard to make an usb c to hdmi connection possible for tv gameplay.

I'm not trying to be rude, but to be honest I like the Lite better. I have both the standard, and the Lite. And some of the stuff you said is false. My Lite has about the same battery as my standard. Also the way you talked about the Lite sounded like you are against it. So it is totally your opinion.

You can still play super smash with your friends providing they have the game as well.. or at least if you buy the joysticks and connect them to the lite.

I am getting a Switch Lite next month. I found the Switch interesting at launch but the majority of games I'd want to play on the Television aren't on Switch. And recently as I'm about to move and spend a lot of time commuting I've been wanting a handheld. So with the launch of Tears of the Kingdom that was finally enough to tip the scales into getting myself a Switch Lite. It's also a bonus to have access to a bunch of old and new Nintendo games on the go!
I actually prefer the switch lite over the regular switch. I have used the regular switch before, my brother own one. I got a switch lite for Christmas and so far I have had not problems with the lite. It is fun and I don’t find a problem with playing handheld mode. I prefer hand held. While some people like the standard switch I prefer the lite
Pro tip: Make sure you get the new version of the Switch. It has a “red box” instead of a white color. Btw you can also trade your older switch to upgrade to the newer switch in GameStop.

Don't get the Lite. It could possibly drift and you would have to replace the console. At least the original you only have to replace the joy cons and it's free if you do.

I was lucky enough to get one 3 months after launch ( original switch) and I absolutely love the system still!!!! Its my second favourite nintendo next to gamecube. If you're on the wall, get the original as it gives you more scope in the long run.
Personally, I prefer to stick with the Nintendo Switch myself. 😎 I have the original Nintendo Switch with the Neon Blue and Neon Red Joy-Cons; I got it for my birthday two years ago, and I must say, it sure works pretty well, and it’s superbly neat, what with the Joy-Cons being detachable and such.
Plus, I also now have the Nintendo Switch edition of the Anker 20100 PowerCore power bank, which comes in handy whenever I might find myself in a situation where the Nintendo Switch’s battery is getting low and I want to recharge it. (Also, the Nintendo Switch AC Adapter sure comes in handy itself when it comes to recharging the Anker Nintendo Switch PowerCore 20100 power bank; it takes almost 3 hours to recharge its battery.)
After seeing this video, it really solidified me getting a lite:
1. Size: I travel light (even to work) and only carry a sling bag
2. Visuals: I live in a small room (no large TV bigger than 21")
3. Price: My friends all live 400 mi. from me, online play is the only option. The price was feasible to me. Side note: none of my friends like smash bros.
4. Battery life: my commute is about 45 mins a day, and so is my lunch. When I get home, I can still play for about another hour before I need a break from playing to charge and when its fully charged (i like to leave it at 95% everyday) I can continue before bedtime.
5. Portability: I play by myself? I prefer solo games. The kick stand itself is very unstable. I use a tablet / cellphone stand when I'm watching videos on it. I don't really mind not using a charging dock since my nightstand has space to charge flat and have no potential of blaring an update light in my face when it goes on.
tldr;; all in all, use this video to figure out what works for you, your lifestyle, and your play style.

Tbh, I don’t think the lite is better nor the switch. Cause the lite is literally made for personal gameplay, and more of a portable device. Think of it as a 3ds. And the Switch is made for family play
the switch lite was literally created to a whole different kind of person: the ppl that played 3DS wanted something portable, just like their old console, that's definitely my type since I don't think that if I had the classic switch, I would play on my tv. I actually have a PS4 so I literally do not need the classic switch, just a device that can replace my 3DS without being a huge console :)

I started with a switch lite and recently moved my way up to the og switch. Differences for me in my opinion are the lites screen seems brighter and more vibrant and the one that docks takes a hit in fps while in tv mode. The lite however does feel a bit hotter while playing from time to time. I didn't think nintendo would make it work being so gimmicky but i love both my switches just wish they had better color schemes for personal customization
Maybe some people don’t want to play console games on their tv, and want to lay on their bed playing Doom Eternal and eating Doritos. Or maybe that’s just me.
You have that option with a standard Switch while also having the second option of playing on your TV.

But yes, sometimes more options can cause confusion, but that's mostly when it's not explained well to the user.

Ok about the kickstand, why would the lite have one? I see literally no benefits in the lite having a kickstand.
It doesn’t have detachable joy cons. It would be stupid even considering that.

If you had joycons, you can connect them to lite and use the console as a mini tv screen if your on the train with friends or something

Let me quickly settle this,
Spend the extra money for the switch if your looking for:
A) A good home console
B) Lots of games on it
C) A console to play with friends/family
D) A console you have a lot of disposable cash to spend on
E) An overall more robust strong console
Get the NSL if:
A) You have a busy schedule you’re not often at home, but still have free time out and about
B) A few games to play but overall not a lot
(An example is some people only buy the lite for acnh)
C) A console you maybe don’t have a big budget for
D) A console for yourself
E) A traditional handheld fitted with a d-pad
Ok so of course the NS is better then the NSL but that’s the point the lite was made as a cheaper smaller alternative but at the end of the day, get one depending on the circumstances listed
The Switch Lite can play every title that the Switch can too. Only difference is that you’ll need extra joycons for local multiplayer or for games that require standard joycon features.
Came across this while thinking of getting a switch for Fantasy Life i.. Knew I wanted a Lite, had small doubts... but watching this just drove home how much better the lite really is. I've never seen the Switch as a good "on the go" or even a handheld device. It's too big, clunky and heavy. Playing my husband's is always a chore, and I hate it... Definitely set on a Lite at this point with no regrets.
